I came to Tracycakes cafe during the Christmas Jubilee when their business hours were extended for the occasion. I found the interior design of the establishment to be dazzling. I ordered their Blueberry Pie with a Latte for dine-in. The pie was pretty good while the latte was very satisfactory. The service was great and had no issues with it whatsoever. So we usually do high tea at Tracycakes and this time we decided to mix it up by just enjoying soup and sandwiches. The food was good but I really do prefer the high tea experience they provide. Their scones and cupcakes and finger sandwiches are so much more enjoyable. My veggie panini was fine but my salad was amazing and I wish I'd just had a larger version of that and skipped the sandwich. Our server was new but very attentive and seemed to be looking after the entire dining room on his own. He did a great job of juggling everything! The restaurant itself has aged and could do with a bit of a facelift but I think it's probably great for its location in Abbotsford. I really liked when they were in Fort Langley in the little White House and on the beach in White Rock. read more

High tea has always been a favourite of mine and Tracycakes Bakery's high tea did not leave me disappointed. I went to Tracycakes with my mom to share a large tray of the main high tea combo. The tray we got is usually meant for one person. However, my mom and I were both full from eating the one combo tray of food. The tray had a number of delicacies and desserts. I especially enjoyed their cupcakes and scones. There were also a variety of sandwiches ranging from meat and cucumber to croissant egg salad - all of which tasted great! As for tea, we tried the vanilla flavour and enjoyed it as well. The store is small and cute. There are desserts all around that you can purchase to take home. The ambience was casual and comforting and the service was good. If you're ever in the Abbotsford area and looking for affordable high tea, I'd recommend Tracycakes Bakery! read more

As soon as I walked in I was greeted and was welcomed by the lovely staff and ambiance of this cute little bakery. I really wasn't in the mood for cupcakes but luckily for me they had a selection of other pastries aswell. I even scored a little bag of half off (yesterday's) goodies. I ordered a London fog as I had already had my coffee this morning and it was light and creamy but very delicious. I ordered the pumpkin pie and it was really good! This cafe was very welcoming with beautiful cozy decor. I ordered the mozzarella tomato panini with butternut squash soup and it was full of flavour and absolutely delicious. Everything here is delicious. I have been for lunch, high tea and desserts & I don't know what I like more! The soups are made with real vegetables. Not the freeze dried crap you get elsewhere. The salads and sandwiches are fresh and hearty and soooo tasty. I struggle to pick a lunch item because I want it all. The high tea is SO good. They have meat and vegetarian finger sandwiches-- so something for everyone. Cute presentation and good selection of items both sweet and savoury. The baking tastes like the best grandma's baking ever! You can tell it's not made en masse! Other reviews say the icing on the cupcakes is "hard" it's because they use REAL BUTTER which firms up in the fridge. If you want a softer icing go somewhere else where they serve canola oil or margarine (gross) or leave your cupcake out for 20-30 mins so the REAL BUTTER has a chance to soften!!! If you can even wait that long to eat the cupcake cuz they're so good. Not to mention the huge selection of flavours. All that being said my favourite item is the sugar cookies!!! My husband and I go out of our way to get one and a coffee to go! Seriously... so good. If you're in the area this is a MUST try. Very disappointed with this shop! We went to this cafe for high tea. On line they advertise gluten free as I have issues with gluten we thought lets try it! We sat down and I was told by the waitress "you have to pre order g/f a few days ahead " I said oh were is this info, the waitress said the website. I asked what else do you offer G/F she said nothing! I went online right away and there was no mention of this at all on their website. May look amazing, but it made me feel awkward. So, me and my friend was in the area and we were craving for something sweet, and we found this establishment. The cafe was very quaint and appealing. It seems so nice and welcoming, but the only thing was that the people who work here are not though. Kinda sucks. The pricing of the cupcakes are EXTREMELY expensive, and was not in our range. Vancouver hands down was cheaper than this. I was surprised to see that. I thought there would be something special to the whoopies, but all we tasted was butter. I didn't like that very much. The colour may look good on the cupcakes but the food was not appealing. Love the decor, but the atmosphere of the waitress and the host was very snobby and up tight. Being me as an Elite, of course still gave them the Yelp Business card, but I felt very bad when I left the place. Will go again if the place improves. read more

I hate to do this to a business owner but after a bit of research into the health ratings I feel I need to report it here. My mom and I went there for lunch as we'd heard it was a good place. We sat down and looked at the menu and suddenly my mom goes "Oh my God - what is that?" and points to a HUGE DEAD RAT right on the floor beside our table. She called the waitress over who looked totally shocked and ran off into the kitchen. We got the hell out of there as fast as we could. Here's the thing: you can't have a big fat rat drop dead in the middle of your restaurant unless you're putting out POISON which is not at all foodsafe and is probably totally illegal. I toyed with not giving it a bad review here until today when I went to the health department website and found a restaurant report for Tracycakes that noted a number of health violations including several unsanitary conditions and "Conditions observed that may allow entrance/harbouring/breeding of pests." !!!! The cupcakes are unique, as are the names. But they had a little too much frosting, and were not worth the price of them. If you go later in the day, your selection of cupcakes is really limited. The tea wasn't great, and they had a pathetic choice of varieties. My boyfriend wasn't impressed with the coffee either. The wait staff are neutral -- not all that friendly. They were also really busy and could have used extra staff. We waited a long time just for our tea and coffee to arrive. This is less of a cafe, and more of a desert bakery. This is my absolute favourite place to grab a quick treat downtown or sit and have a high tea with my mum for her birthday! The staff are very kind and don't get frustrated if you change your mind or a kid takes a long time to decide what they want. Most cupcakes come in a standard and mini size, which is good for birthday parties, and kids who can't finish a cupcake. When I was younger and didn't like my tea when my mum and I came for a high tea, the lady offered me lemonade, to which I obviously agreed! I've tried Tracycakes a hand full of times and I'm usually disappointed :( I've gone at different times even-morning, afternoon and evening to see if the cupcakes are better. I was in the area to do some culinary exploring and hit this joint up first 'cause like most restaurants in the area, they didn't open until 11:00 or 12:00 pm, therefore, I had to hit this one up first. The atmosphere was an interesting combination of log cabin meets shek since they had chandeliers. You have to actually look for these as they do not stand out too clearly. It was dead in their when I went which was good. It allowed me to write in my journal, read a book and check out the companies publication and food porn publications that they had available. I was looking at the cupcake porn like a teenage boy looking at Playboy. I was serviced by a sweet lady named GiGi (can't pronounce her name). She was awesome. I tried engaging her in conversation, however, she didn't seem all that sociable. It was if she was trying too hard and it didn't come too naturally from her which is a shame. She didn't do anything specifically wrong, however, she just seemed that she would rather hide in the corner than be cheery and engaging with her staff. Some people have that natural social-ness and some may be socially awkward by nature. The selection of cupcake flavors was minimal, however, considering that these are baked in house daily, this was made clear and accepted. As I strolled in 30 minutes into opening, I noticed that there were cooling racks of pastry, therefore, the mini cupcakes that I ordered were day olds which is okay by me. The mini cupcakes that I ordered were "orange you glad" and "funky munky". The flavors seemed to have miss the mark as I couldn't taste a balance between the chocolate/orange and the banana/chocolate. The frosting was a little stiff, however, it was real butter cream in even ratio. The cupcake itself was very moist and not too sweet which balanced the frosting to cake texture and sweetness perfectly, almost too perfectly. This is as close to a perfect cupcake that I have ever tried. If the ever get the flavor notes adequately adjusted, this would be the perfect cupcake. Each mini is $1.40, however, perhaps $1 or $1.25 would've been more reasonable. I had a basic vegetable chicken soup. Not too salty and great balance of hand cut veggies and fresh organic chicken. It accompanied what I consider to be the best grilled biscuit I've ever had. The biscuit was to die for. If I were to rob this place, it wouldn't be for cash but to steal the biscuit recipe. The price is reasonable for a snack, however, wouldn't count on this for a huge brunch or lunch. Best to get a few mini's here and some soup down a few blocks here and there. The sold Pop Soda which was a huge plus for me on the retro side, however, settled for a vanilla bean tea which made a better pairing with the chocolate based cupcakes. read more

It's a bit of a drive from where I live, but fortunately I get to sample some of their delicious desserts up here in Auguston! The cinnamon buns are absolutley amazing and I think Ive tried at least a dozen different mini cupcakes now as well! I have found my heaven. This place combines my two foodie passions: baked goods and things that are small. The mini-cupcakes are both adorable, delicious, and novel in their flavours. The ambiance and decor are a cross between a Victorian tea house and a 50's jazz cafe (if ever there was such a thing). I had the Boston Creme Babycake (yes, that's what the mini cupcakes are actually called), a chocolate cake filled with Bavarian whip cream and topped with a chocolate ganache. Besides making my adorable-meter go into overdrive, I was sincerely impressed with the craftmanship of this little delight -the icing/cake ratio was nothing to complain about. The best part about this place is that they switch up the cupcakes they choose to make every day- keeping my taste buds in heavy suspense. I will definitely be back for the Strawberry Blossom and the Sleepless in Seattle (made with- you guessed it, espresso). Deeee-lisshhh. The little bakery offers some pretty amazing cupcakes. They come in two sizes (regular and mini) and an assortment of flavors that could make your head spin (in a good way). The bite size minis are great but have a little too much frosting...I prefer more cupcake to frosting. This is a great spot for dessert if you are not feeling up to eating ice cream / gelato. This is my new White Rock destination when crossing the border... I'm sure I'll make it back to this place and maybe even sneaking a few back to Washington. read more

Any White Rock local knows that the majority of the restaurants on the strip are either frighteningly unsanitary, disappointingly mediocre, outrageously overpriced, or all three. Traceycakes, despite its appearance, isn't an exception. A friend and I dropped in on this quaint lunch spot, hoping to discover a gem that would become the new venue for our weekly coffee dates. Sorry, not this time. The service was horrendous. I know every restaurant has its bad days, but there wasn't an excuse this time. We sat out on the patio to enjoy the sunshine, and we were essentially ignored from the time we sat down. A waitress came by to take our drink and food order. Drinks came, food came, and then it was like we didn't exist. Nobody came by to ask how our food was, to refill our drinks, ask if we wanted dessert, see if we needed our bill. Nothing. I was not impressed, especially considering we were one of maybe three seated tables; the restaurant was definitely not busy enough for us to be ignored for so long. After seeing absolutely nothing of our waitress for what seemed like eons, we got tired of sitting with dirty plates and empty glasses, and I went inside to ask for our bill. This place only grabs an extra star from me because the wrap I ordered WAS surprisingly tasty, but overpriced in my opinion. I've tried the cupcakes on a different visit, but they're nothing to write home about. Bland cake piled high with extremely sweet icing. Okay food. Bad service. I won't be back. read more

I have visited this place on numerous occasions, each time hoping against hope that I won't be disappointed yet again. Hasn't happend yet. The food is mediocre and lacklustre. Dull flavours and dried out breads. The cupcakes have to be the most disappointing though. The cake is often stale and the frosting stomach-churningly sweet (hint: add a pinch of salt to your buttercream!!). Last time I was there, I ordered a mini strawberry cupcake. You'd think, it might have some of the actual strawberry fruit in it, It didn't. It was so fake, I couldn't even finish the mini version of it. Traceycakes or TraceyFAKES? Cupcakes are about par with what's out there. However, I have a problem with the owner: #1 A couple of years ago I walked into one of her outlets and asked if she could donate a box of cupcakes to a non-profit organization's silent auction. It is an organization that supports women and children in need. She said she was "too busy right now" but would get back to me. She never did. Okay. I know businesses are always hit upon for donations, but I would have been content with, "No, sorry we can't - good luck with your cause." #2 Sometime after that, I contacted her via email. I was not soliciting donations. I wanted to know how much she would charge me for custom cupcakes. I wanted to give my customers (I own a very small home-based business) a cupcake as an appreciation gift. Well, ignored again. I guess she was again "too busy" and didn't want any part of my potty little business. The biggest affront is her blog - how she preaches goodwill - but is not practicing it, i.e. "Help People" and "Our real values are what we do, not what we say." Never again will I contact her or walk into any one of her bakeries. BTW, another cupcake shop in Langley happily provided me with my cupcakes. So, keep lapping up those over-sugared endearments people...along with the over-priced cupcakes. read more

Here's what I loved: I wasn't limited to set times/seatings but was able to make reservations for High Tea at any time. The black and white shabby chic décor with mini chandeliers and sterling silver. The sunshine reflected off the water and streaming through the windows. Here's what I didn't love: We were 10 minutes late for our 1 o'clock reservation and while our teas came right away, our food didn't arrive for 40 minutes! I thought they'd be ready for us if we had a reservation. All the staff ran around looking grim. Maybe they were short staffed, maybe they weren't expecting to be so busy on the first sunny day of the year...? I should have asked if this was the norm. Hope not! As for the food: The lemon cheesecakes and mini cupcakes were super yummy. The fruit slices and mini apple streusel tarts were okay. We were served 3 types of sandwich: egg (so good!), cucumber and cream cheese (amazing!) and deli turkey (with way too much cranberry sauce). The sausage rolls' presentation was ho-hum. The huge scones were delicious, but they seemed out of proportion to the other items' miniature scale. (That probably sounds picky, but presentation is important, and I did wonder for a second if the full size scones were meant to be included because they were so different from everything else.) They offer a selection of maybe 10 Mighty Leaf teas, which are really good, but it doesn't feel as special as choosing from an entire menu of loose leaf teas like you do at Secret Garden in Kerrisdale. Then again, you don't pay as much per person! The verdict: I hope to visit Traceycakes again. It looks like the perfect spot for a romantic brunch on a lazy Saturday. Or for a long chat with a girlfriend over a cup of tea and a delicious treat when you're in the mood for something more special than the local SBucks. As for the High Tea, I will say I'm glad there's a place offering the experience at this price. I give them 4 out of 5 stars because even though High Tea was so-so, they're just so darned adorable. read more

A friend and I recently ventured out from Vancouver to explore the Abbotsford vicinity and at the end of the day drove into downtown looking for a wonderful little place to have dinner. We were happy to find Tracycakes Bakery Café, and couldn't believe it was open considering the emptiness of the downtown at 6:00 PM with everything closed around it. Loved the "shabby chic" décor and the cupcakes on display at the entrance were enticing. The chicken pot pie was the best we ever had. The crust was perfect and flaky. The salad was just as wonderful. To top it off, enjoyed the task of choosing a cupcake topped high with delicious icing. If one doesn't want the full sugar load of the icing, then chose a miniature cupcake. The value was good at $3.25/cupcake which is less than the price at Cupcakes by Heather & Lori in Vancouver. We had a sweet and friendly server and spent almost two hours talking, enjoying the food and wondering around looking at all the wonderful home décor items. Note to owner: it would be nice to be able to purchase some of your fantastic finds displayed in the cabinets. Abbotsford is lucky to have such a cute spot to pick up cupcakes and home baked scones, muffins, apple tarts and butter tarts. I ended up buying some baking to take home. I see there is also a location in Fort Langley, so we will drive out again soon to explore Fort Langley just to have that salad and homemade pot pie again! Of course you have to save room for dessert if you're eating in Downtown White Rock, and you're going to walk the beach. There's so many wonderful choices it's a good idea to share. My fav is Black Forest. I personally like the frosting. Most of the time it is not too sweet. I had a baby shower for a friend a while ago and bought a bunch of the mini's and decorated the cake trays with flowers and baby rattles and such. It was a big hit read more

I came in for lunch with a friend on a Saturday afternoon and my experience was not great, to say the least. My first impression was that desserts were overpriced - $5 for a small personal-size pie. The decor was also tacky, and the place looked run-down. It could use a good paint job and maybe some new floors too. It's "shabby-chic" but more on the shabby side. We came during the lunch rush and were surprised to find that there was only one server on. She was definitely doing her best to accommodate all the customers, but I did notice people periodically come out from the back to help customers at the till and clear tables. The staff did seem a little overwhelmed, but they were still very positive and gave good service. I wanted to order the gluten-free mac and cheese, but was informed they weren't making it anymore even though it was still on the menu. I ordered the chicken and brie sandwich and the sandwich itself had a good flavour, but the chicken was chewy and didn't taste fresh. My friend had the quiche and said it was flavourless and the crust was spongy, but liked the salad. We decided to try dessert to see if it was any better. I had the cherry pie, which had a weird cough syrupy flavour, and my friend had the turtle cheesecake and said it was delicious. Overall I don't see myself going back to Tracycakes any time soon. read more
