I always thought it was quite a novelty to live next to a mannequin shop and for years I wanted to pop in and have a browse but it appeared not to be open to the public. Finally, I was enticed in by the awful 80s window display and the need to cut the fringe on my wig. I rang the bell and hoped they deemed me professional looking enough to go in and fondle some polystyrene heads. They did.
This shop is huge and is a little lacking in creativity. Harsh lighting glares down on the badly displayed products and the place really feels as if it needs some kind of update. I guess it's purely functional and they don't really need to jazz it up but, believe me, if I was in charge of a mannequin shop it'd be the talk of the town!
The polystyrene heads were reasonably priced I guess at about £3.99 but when I asked to purchase one it took them about 15 mins to bring it to me from the warehouse out back. I'm sure that there was only one more customer in the store so it was pretty ridiculous to have to wait so long.
As well as the poly heads they sell nicer heads and busts for displaying jewellery, torsos which are handy for eBay sales, dressmaking dummies and full mannequins. Nothing amazing but they do have a selection.
I also enquired about rentals but they don't do them.
If you want to pop in and have a look you can ring the bell to gain entry. If you just want to check what they have then look up their website before you visit.
It might be cheaper to buy from eBay but I found Trade Lines to be a good last minute solution. read more
