Shopping at this Trader Joe's is always a great experience- and not just because of the food selection and excellent value for your dollar. The bressi ranch Trader Joe's has retained many employees for years, and their experience and commitment shows. Last night I was shopping about an hour before close. The store wasn't packed but there was still a good number of shoppers. Suddenly the power went out. We looked outside and the whole street was dark. In literally seconds the Trader Joe's team materialized from around the store, manned every register and got everyone checked out calmly and efficiently- while maintaining their usual friendly good humor. They navigated a few check out issues - quickly figured out that debits wouldn't go through but credit cards would, and the shoppers were taken care of and we safely left. It's no surprise I have been to Trader Joe's all up and down northern and Southern California and the staff never seems to disappoint. They are all so friendly and helpful. On a hunt for a few novelty items on my way home I somehow always end up with at least a bag or two as each store is slightly different. For my family who aren't as lucky to have the delights Trader Joe's has to offer I get lists for their holiday boxes. I love to throw in new items to surprise them in hopes they selfishly like the items or miss Trader Joe's so much they move to me!! One can dream. Each time I find myself lost in a store on a a treasure hunt for something on their list no matter which store the staff has a huge smile a helpful hand. As much as I come Trader Joe's treats never seem to disappoint. I love being able to taste flavors from around the world with signature twists all bottled up. From the small seasonings, the frozen foods, unique fruits/veggies to all the other options Trader Joes has been a staple in our homes no matter where we are in the world. I have not been to a Trader Joe's that I have not been at the very least a fan of. This location in Carlsbad was a great visit, not only because they had everything I was looking for, but they also had a great and friendly staff. I picked up a number of items, including my usual organic round tortilla chips, avocados, sprouted bread, and something new that I have never tried from Trader Joe's, a pack of flour tortillas made from wheat and corn. Also, I happened across the wine aisle and I could not refuse a couple of well priced bottles of Malbec. The store was very well stocked, organized, and busy given it was a few days before Thanksgiving. The store was well staffed and everyone I encountered, including the gent at the register were friendly and helpful. Very nice Trader Joe's! read more

Well Hot Damn! It's a Miracle! Praise the Nymphs of Urban Development! Can we all say "Hail T. Jayz"??? This brand NEW spanking, spank me, waiting to be spanked, spanked but not spoken, pay me to spank you (OK, skip the last few words) Trader Joes opened just minutes from our house! WOOT!!! Located off El Fuerte and right down the road from the Carlsbad Airport, this shopping center is still being developed and has yet to become fully occupied. No worries because they opened the most reliable stores here first, Trader Joes and Stater Bros. The parking can still get crowded at times but there are plenty of overflow spaces in the area...well, for now that is. There is even a Peet's Coffee across the street so you can grab a latte before or after shopping here. The layout of this Trader Joes is really a marvel! Unlike some of their other locations, the aisles here are really WIDE (see pics) so you can maneuver your shopping cart forward and back in each direction without dinging other shoppers thus reducing "Shopping Claustrophobia"! What ROCKS most of all about TJ's are their Groovy Employees! They really bust their nuts to make sure that you have a friendly, happy, and efficient shopping experience whilst adroitly relating superior product knowledge and making sure that the store is stocked and re-stocked. This TJ's staff is undeniably AWESOME! Truth be told, Trader Joes has been one of our remedies to address these challenging economic times. The quality of their products are excellent, their prices are less than Whole Foods and Von's, and you know that there will always be consistency in their product lines! Time for an update! It's been 3 years since my initial review and I still love this location. The parking lot is crazier than ever, but sometimes I score great street parking and don't have to deal with the actual lot. I can always find something delicious that I shouldn't buy....but it happens to follow me out. Beer selection is good, wine is a steal. My BFF is their half caff/half decaf coffee. It's perfect for caffeine-sensitive people like me. Service is always friendly. Forgot something while the cashier is ringing you up..no worries! They'll send someone to get what you need. Wonder how something tastes? They know! Buy something, try it and you don't like it? They'll take it back! I've never done it but they told me it's part of their return policy. Such a great Trader Joe's! Rarely will they be out of stock on common items unless it's Sunday evening after everyone has done their shopping. The staff are incredibly kind and socialize with the customers during the check out process. The samples are always well thought of meals that only require 2-3 Trader Joe's items. They also tend to sample the best produce of the week which I typically end up buying, along with some of the freshest roses and bouquets of flowers. The parking lot can be challenging since it is relatively small and cramped, but most customers are respectful and try to give each other the right of way. I am a Trader Joe's groupie and this is my mothership of Trader Joe's. The staff here are all super friendly and eager to help you find stuff, or if they're out, look up WHY they're out and when they're expecting more... It gets a little crowded in here because, well the secret is out, but the floor plan is spacious and they always have plenty of check stands open so it causes minimal inconvenience. I love the Trader Joe's brand products. Their policy of never using GMO's and always using natural foods makes it *almost* unnecessary to read the labels when buying. They have lots of yummy sauces, dips, appetizers, seafoods, sweets, snacks, grains, nuts, fruits/veggies, and pretty much everything in between - not to mention their great selection of cheap-to-mid-priced wines! Their prices are typically (but not 100% of the time) lower than those at the regular grocery stores. The woman who creates the daily samples is a genius. I have adopted several great meal ideas from her that have made it into my regular rotation. In fact, they have TONS of quick-and-easy yet healthy AND tasty options. When I'm feeling lazy or short on time, I just head over to their freezer section where you can choose from single-meal frozen entrees or you can grab a bag of fish, bag of frozen veggies, and a bag of frozen rice and just throw everything in the oven together to feed a family with minimal effort. They also have a selection of pre-prepared fresh foods as well. The only thing I don't buy here is fresh meat because of its price - I know it's organic/grass-fed/better but I just can't afford it - but this location is in the same shopping center as Stater Bros., which is my favorite place to buy meat, so it's super convenient to head over there afterwards. You can't beat the prices on their frozen seafood though! Love love love this store and their products! Huge fan and faithful customer. read more

I did not get the chance to try it, but I will one day. Parking on one side felt small, but it seems they have more on the back. I bought almond chocolate liquid : low calorie and gluten free. I just realized that Trader Joes is like Southwest Airlines. Compared to the larger, traditional supermarket chains, they are so much more fun and laid back in attitude! Everyone at this location is very friendly- I'm often asked if I'm finding everything ok. The ladies at the sample station recognize my daughters and are always super nice. All the employees seem to be very kid-friendly and I love how they give lollipops (naturally flavored!) at the checkout. My girls know that they have to behave to get a lollipop so it makes shopping so much easier. Ok, the Encinitas location is now a lot bigger since the remodel, but I still like the Bressi Ranch location better - Customer service is great and I can always get a parking space. read more

Parking can be difficult in this even though I do not think the surrounding businesses are as busy as this Trader Joe's. This store is always clean and the customer service is top notch. If you pass by a crew member they will usually ask if you need help finding something. When you come in, I always see the employees working hard to keep everything restocked and organized. read more

I have an ADA Service Animal, and the manager walked up to me and was incredibly rude and disrespectful, even despite the fact that immediately showed the manager my service animal's ID tag. The manager told me that my service animal is "not an ADA service animal because he is sniffing the ground," I proceeded to explain to him "legally you are not allowed to ask me anything about my service animal expect, if he IS a service animal unless you are a manager," he very disrespectfully stated, "well congratulations to you, I am the manager and I am legally asking you if he is an ADA service dog." The manager continued to disagree and tell me that my service animal was NOT a service animal because he was sniffing the ground (he was not eating anything off of the ground). I will not bring my business here and recommend no one else to. This is discrimination and I am incredibly disappointed. I have never had a manager from any store be so disrespectful to me about my service animal. read more

I asked if they had any olive tapenade in stock and the guy had no idea what it was. I had to ask another employee. They used to offer help in choosing wines. My family was shown so much kindness today during what could have been an embarrassing experience. We accidentally made a very big mess and instead of receiving any sort of grief over it, we were shown kindness. My young son was able to witness a true gentlemen tonight when Bob showed him how kindness can help anyone in an emotional moment. Sofia and a few other wonderful ladies came to assist. I nope out of shopping here because of poor planning. Forget parking. Lot is far too small for the many, many businesses that surround it in this otherwise nice shopping center. Trader Joe's seems to make busy, overcrowded parking as part of its corporate strategy; I have seen this mess elsewhere for its stores. Maybe its preferred shoppers are those buying only a few items at a time for their cloth bags to fit on the carrying space of their bicycles. They stopped backing the loading trucks all the way into the loading bay, and instead wheel cargo pallets around with fork lifts. This makes a loud rumbling noise, and the worst part is that they do all the loading in the morning and evening when I'm home from work. On top of it all, the people in shipping and receiving are a loud bunch of people. They are always tell at each other, and I just want to relax at home. I wish they go could go back to backing the truck into the loading bay. Or maybe loading during the day when most people are at work. Trader Joe's was unwilling to compromise, so now I need to see what it will take to build a bigger taller wall to block out more noise. read more

I go to this Trader Joe's with my husband every week. The entire staff is so friendly especially Hun & Irene. Sorry I cannot remember everyone's names to thank everyone. They are always stocking the shelves so can get a fresh selection of flowers, produce, meats, etc. They go above and beyond to get to know you as a person and even though they are busy, they don't make you feel like just any old customer. My husband was doing the food shopping while I was going through surgery and chemo for breast cancer last year. They always comforted him during that difficult time for us. Thankfully feeling good and so happy to be able to go in the store and see everyone's smiling faces. One employee did not make me feel silly for needing help to carry my case of water to the car after one of my surgeries. It was so kind and I was thankful they did not look at me as someone young to not offer me help to my car. Keep it up because you guys are awesome!!! We appreciate you! :) read more

First and foremost, let me get this out of the way. I think I am a Trader Joe's fanatic. The store is located in the Bressi Ranch area where there are lots of other restaurants in the area and other grocery stores. I love doing my grocery shopping here. Honestly I just love walking up and down the aisles looking at all the products they have to offer. I like the idea of new products constantly coming in and old ones going out (except for the og ones). They offer a variety of products and you are bound to find something you'll love. Some of my favorite products include their Habanero Hot Sauce, Plantain Chips, Naan Bread, Spinach Artichoke Dip, and their frozen ready-to-eat food selection. The store is always clean and welcoming. The employees here are all very nice and helpful. They love striking up conversations and recommending you their favorites. Great spot to do some grocery shopping and grab a bite nearby afterwards! read more

They have an ace selection of both beer and wine to boot. The staff have always been courteous and helpful at each location I have ever been to. There are some companies where you can just feel that their employees love what they do and love working there, and this is one of the places. Everyone is always super friendly and helpful. There were many of times when we would call to check the availability of certain seasonal/limited edition products (damn you IG!) and the staff would always be polite and check directly, and or provide other locations that may have the item in stock. Ding-ding! You know that bell. There's a new kid in town. The name is Joe, Trader Joe's and he's brought his wares to Bressi Ranch. No longer do Carlsbad folk need to make the trek to Encinitas. It's nestled in the Bressi Ranch Village Center which has been designed with a pedestrian feel of lower scale, single-story buildings and the lack of large, swathing parking parking lots. Make sure you bring your parallel parking A-Game, if you choose to avoid the crowded parking lots - including the one in front of TJs. In fact, this store is very much Trader Joe's in all appearances. While there is no mistake to be made, don't be confused by its two entries - front and rear. Clean. New. Well lit. Wide aisles. Thought the wide aisles though throw me off a bit as I'm used to my TJs to be be busy and tight making me pause and look both ways before turning into aisles. Watch out for that hot yuppie, MILF or that nouveau-hippie chick. All the requisite Trader Giotto's goods that you might want too. Arrabiata sauce anyone? Oranjeboom beer? Prepackaged salads? You can't beat that. There's still the large selection of wines and in fact, it's one of the larger selections of beer and wine I've seen in any TJs. Then again, you can never have enough selections of beer and/or wine, in my opinion. read more

You want a full on grocery store with classic stuff? Go to the Stater Bros. next door. If you want a place with great treats to fix your sweet tooth (or even salty tooth), then this is the place for you. I don't think I come here for anything else besides the nice treats they have here. After an hour or two of surfing, I want to get something to nibble on, on my drive home and maybe pick up some groceries, so this is my stop. I've always been a fan of Trader Joe's but the fact that some of their produce comes from other countries kind of irks me. I rather buy local and up where I live, there's nothing but local produce, so I don't come here for that. I hope they do eventually change this because I really don't feel like getting blackberries from Argentina anymore. We live in California where our weather allows our produce to do well all year round, so we should be supporting the local farms. I will say that I loved leaving here with a box of macarons from the freezer and some chocolate pretzels with some iced tea sitting pretty next to me while I drove home. read more

This is your average Trader Joe's located in the middle of Carlsbad. The Trader Joe's is actually pretty big and the store itself is very clean. I really liked the service here but I always like the service at all Trader Joe's. Parking is kind of interesting in this plaza but it seems that there is plenty, most of the time. I highly recommend you stop by if you want Trader Joe's goods and then head over to Pure Burger or Pieology for dinner (they are all in the same plaza)! read more

I just returned home and to be honest, I'm a little disappointed. I am not a frequent shopper of Trader Joe"s. I am not aware of the protocol that they put in place because I have been there 2 times since the pandemic. Guy was the checker. He was very abrasive and actually just rude! I went to set my purse down and he barked at me "NO PERSONAL ITEMS ON THE COUNTER" literally, zero signage that stated that. I was behind the plexiglass waiting to pay and he told me to go stand in the square until he called me forward. I had no idea as to what he's talking about because as itue square is behind me and I am not familiar. I am all about taking measures of safety! I work in the food and beverage industry, I get it! Please don't assume every one of your shoppers is a regular Guy! Also, please work on your delivery. Being polite and understanding goes along way these days. This really put me off and will make me think about revisiting this store. read more

This is my go-to Trader Joe's. I love driving here because it's like driving out into the country. If I don't have time to go to Whole Foods in Encinitas, TJs is it. This is not the biggest TJs, it's rather small. One reviewer calls it 'huge' but she must never have seen the TJs in places like LA where they are like ten thousand square feet large. The parking is adequate though mobbed at peak hours. I like that they almost always have organic blueberries, and they have a cool tasting station where they always offer little tastes of goodies that they sell. But what I most like in this store: The Pain Rustique (rustic bread). Oh it is just the best!! You can usually only find it in the morning, since it's sold out by about 3 pm. It comes in rolls or in bread and the flavor and texture remind me of bread I used to buy in Rome. The outside crust is thick, and the inside is more like sour dough than french bread. Toast it and you're in heaven. All I needed this time was blueberries and soymilk, a quick in and out. As with most other places in Carlsbad, the staff is super super friendly, laid back, just cool and natural. read more

We don't get the produce too much since they are only available as single, wrapped items. They do not sell by the pound (slows down the checkout process).
