This place was such a treat! Where many restaurants around downtown Disney if you don't have a reservation, you have to wait in line, here you can put your name down and they will text you. Ultimately they delayed us by 10 mins after returning to the text and they were so sweet and gave us a free dole whip for the error (and yes! Real Disney dole whip not in the park!! What a treat!) Once we sat outside, we were in front of ukelele players performing which was so fun. They even did some songs from Moana which my daughter loved. I popped inside to use the restroom and that was equally enchanting. We got the appetizer plate which we all loved and the short ribs with a side of the mac salad. Everything was delicious! Stephanie, Veronica, and Melissa are all fantastic bartenders and we are always sure to grab a drink when we see them at the bar. They consistently make our cocktails perfectly every single time, and you can tell they really know their craft and care about the guest experience. They're incredibly attentive without ever making us feel rushed. They give us time to enjoy our drinks, take in the atmosphere, and decide what we're in the mood for next while still making sure we're taken care of. That balance of great service and letting us enjoy the experience is something we really appreciate. In terms of drinks the Mojitos and specialty cocktails are to die for. They're always perfectly balanced, refreshing, and packed with flavor. Whether we're in the mood for something tropical, fruity, or a little stronger, they always seem to know exactly what to make. What we especially appreciate is that they're just as creative when we don't feel like drinking. They've made us customized mocktails that are just as fun and delicious as the cocktails. It's not just a basic juice or soda thrown together. They actually take the time to create something unique based on what we like. When it comes to food I recommend the pupu platter, salmon and ramen. They are some of my favorites! The pupu platter has a nice variety of foods that can definitely be shared amongst friends. What I especially love to come for though is a late night bowl of Ramen. Their broth has so much depth and flavor, not to mention the noodles are always cooked perfectly. We've had dinner and drinks here many times, but this was our first time having breakfast. Our host, Lisa, was very friendly. We've met her here a few times before, and it was nice to see her again. Our server was very nice as well. I had the Lomi-Lomi Salmon Sandwich, and it was really good! It was also much bigger than I expected. We were here on D23 day, starting from the park opening time. Disneyland and Disney California Adventure were both so crowded, so having a nice, quiet, and relaxing breakfast was exactly what we needed. This review is for the Trader Sam's mixology seminar. I haven't visited during regular hours yet. The inside of Trader Sam's was closed for a few months for renovations earlier this year. They have mixology seminars periodically, and I snagged spots for a friend and me a few days after they reopened. The cost is ~$180 per person and it is held inside the main bar area. They will also validate your parking. Arrive at least fifteen minutes before the start time at the check-in sign near the entrance. When it's time to enter, grab any available seat at the bar or any of the tables. Everything for making the drinks is set up ahead of time. You mix and garnish a cocktail and a mocktail. Kelly Merrell who is well known in tiki/cocktail circles guided the seminar. For an introductory mixology seminar, the format was great with a lot of basic cocktail education and interaction with the attendees. I've been making cocktails at home for a while and even picked up some helpful tips. The "Barrel of Mischief" cocktail we made had six different spirits, which was perfect for describing the different characteristics and some background on each. After mixing up the cocktail, you garnish it however you like from various options provided. The cocktail was very good. Even with all those different spirits, it was very balanced and not boozy and had some complexity. We also made a basic mocktail with lemon, simple syrup, and elderberry tonic. It was even garnished with a cute Mickey Mouse cucumber slice. Apparently, bars have been paying a lot more attention to mocktails lately, which is great for people who don't drink but still want to get the same experience. Once the seminar inside has completed, there is a reception for attendees across from the entrance in the Tangaroa Terrace outdoor patio area. The area was reserved and has tables, a large fireplace, and live music. We were served ahi tuna bites, Hawaiian fried rice, and a Taiyaki waffle fish filled with ice cream. We were also served a Miehana cocktail. Kelly and other Trader Sam's staff mingled with guests. Each attendee also received a Trader Sam's 15th anniversary mug a few weeks before its general release. I had a great time, learned a few tips, and I finally got to see the inside of Trader Sam's. Since reopening, they are now walk-in/waitlist only and no reservations, and they said it's actually easier to get in now. I had the pleasure of bringing three friends from Canada and Australia with me to Trader Sam's for their first visit. I don't know who enjoyed it more, them, or me watching them experience it. Like always, the drinks and food were fantastic. It was slower than I'd experienced in the past, but I suspect that's due to the expanded outside service. The first thing I would like say is I wish they had a reservation system. We got there at 5:45 pm and found a spot at the bar around 7:30 pm and ordered food and drinks there. Our table was not ready till 8 pm the place itself tiki theme is mostly inside. Outside is still a nice ambiance but if you want the full experience inside seating is what you want. I have tried multiple times over the last three years to visit Trader Sam's. It cannot be done. Trader Sam's is no longer open to normal people. Mainly due to the peculiarities of Disney's software decisions, I'm unable to make restaurant reservations on my category of theme park reservations until after I'm actually at the park. But why should I need to make a reservation for a bar in the first place? The nearly universal rule for bars is that seating is first-come, first-served; table seating is left to reservations. But Disney, caught at the nexus of corporate greed and managerial cowardice in the face of hotel guests' petulant complaints about not being able to reserve spots at Trader Sam's after spending obscene amounts on hotel rooms, have moved every seat to reservation. Given that, Trader Sam's essentially has had no walk-ins for years now. The host/hostess is really a bouncer, and uniformly one with no tact or grace: A deadpan voice and glassy-eyed stare apparently are prerequisites for landing that position. Disney is actually losing money by turning the bar into dinner reservation seating; restaurants leave there bar seats as first-come, first-served because that encourages casual drinkers who cycle through more quickly, spending money on drinks, which have a much higher profit margin than food. Just like Blue Bayou and Carthay Circle, Trader Sam's is, for all intents and purposes, a venue for hotel guests ― open only to those who paid a premium far enough in advance to get entrance. It's just another sign of Disney's luxury brand (d)evolution. I'm done with Trader Sam's, just like I'm done with Disneyland as a whole. It's not fun anymore. read more

A friend of mine wanted to check this place out and I was in! We started off outside by the bar waiting for our table to be ready (about 45mins). We sipped on some libations as we waited. Then when we were seated inside it was a sensory delight. The mood is volcanic islandy (reminds me a little of The Rainforest Cafe) they have a volcanic eruption every 15mins or so and they ring bells and mist water in the crowd. First time trying Trader Sam's at the Disneyland Resort and I cannot believe how long it took me to try this amazing restaurant! Loved the tropical theme aesthetic, made us feel that we weren't surrounded by the traditional Disneyland crowds. Staff are very welcoming and do a great job at providing a magical experience. I currently dwell in the far-off land of Orlando and frequently visit Trader Sam's Grog Grotto at the Polynesian--but after consulting the spirits, I must confess that Disneyland's enchanted outpost has the stronger magic. The décor is wonderfully immersive, the atmosphere is lively, and the whole place feels as though it has been bewitched. Be warned, however: the restaurant often fills with families who aren't ordering the enchanted elixirs, so the drink-triggered effects may remain frustratingly dormant. At the Polynesian, the crowd tends to include more adults partaking in the potions, which keeps the magic flowing and the room delightfully chaotic. Trader Sam's is one of the most quintessential places to go on Disney property. The wait times here can get pretty crazy, especially if you go at night. Also, if you want the full experience you have to drink and dine inside. I do enjoy the drinks and the food here, but this place is very much about the show as well. When you order certain drinks on the menu the bartenders and servers put on a production that includes fun lights and sounds, volcanoes going off, ships sinking, chanting and the guests getting sprayed with water. We ended our Wednesday night here, hoping to get to see the enchanted Tiki bar. The weight was a little long, but the outside was still very nice to enjoy, so we sat outside and looked at the pretty decorations, and the warm tiki lamps. I really enjoyed the Mojito with dragon berry mixed in. My partner also had the same thing. They came in tall high ball glasses. Our friends had a little bit short of drinks, but they were as good as well. It was really nice to be in the middle of the Disneyland resort hotel. My husband, son (18) and I stopped in on our way back from downtown Disney to our hotel around 5pm on a Monday . The hostess said we could "sit anywhere outside without reserved sign on it." On our last day at the Disneyland Hotel, we decided to get lunch at Trader Sam's before embarking on our 1.5 hour (minimum) drive home. Unfortunately, the inside of the Tiki Bar was closed for repairs/upgrades, but we ate on their very pleasant outdoor patio, and luckily, the weather was lovely. I'm not that into Hawaiian type food, no offense to Hawaiians whatsoever, so I found the menu to be a bit limiting. Since I just had a poke bowl the prior night, I didn't want another, even though it was probably what I would've ordered. Most other dishes were with pork, which I don't eat. Instead, I ordered chicken tenders, which is so NOT what I would EVER order, but I did on this day. The chicken was not overly greasy, and it had good flavor. The fries were even better. The poke bowl looked gorgeous, and the 3 others who got that said it was delicious, although not nearly as much salmon as they were hoping for... and it had way too much rice. (Those of us who had poke bowls from the previous night had loads of ahi tuna and the perfect amount of rice.) My husband enjoyed his bacon cheeseburger, something I'd never get. Not a fan of bacon AT ALL. My grandchildren got the chicken tenders like their grandma. :-) We ate our food to being serenaded with live music on the patio. Nice touch. I think most people come here to drink cocktails, although we didn't since we were about to make a long trek home up the I-5. I probably won't eat here again when/if we stay at this hotel, but it served its purpose when we needed it. read more

Sadly, I haven't had a chance to sit inside, but apparently they put on a little show based on the drinks you order. When I came, I sat outside since we were short on time. They don't do the show for drinks when seated outside. RESERVATIONS: You are able to book 60 days in advance to make reservations. Highly recommend booking inside as it's more of a fun experience. You must cancel at least 2 hours prior to your reservation to avoid a per person cancellation fee. You are able to walk in and put your name on the waitlist. PARKING: It is very close to Downtown Disney, but be aware that they do not validate parking for you if you park at the Downtown Disney parking. They can only validate for Hotel parking. You can park at the hotel for free as long as you get it validated. ANGUS HAWAIIAN CHEESEBURGER: $28 Comes with Applewood-Smoked Bacon, Grilled Pineapple, Havarti Cheese, Togarashi Aïoli, Teriyaki Sauce, and served with French Fries. I paid for the upgrade to get sweet potato fries. Overall this was okay and came out as expected. Drinks come with a souvenir cups (the visual on their drink menu is what your cup would be), however you don't HAVE to pay that price for the cup. You can just get a drink in a simple plain boring looking cup too haha. PIRANHA POOL: This drink comes with Strawberry Vodka, Crème of Coconut, Strawberry Purée, and Pineapple Juice. I got this drink and it was quite refreshing and definitely on the stronger side for me (or I'm getting old haha). HIPPOPATOMAI-TAI: This drink comes with Planteray Original Dark Rum, Flor de Caña Extra Seco Rum, Orgeat, and Orange Curacao. My husband got this and this was way too strong for me. If you're looking for fun Hawaiian vibes with a lively atmosphere, Trader Sam's is a great choice. We came here on a Friday night and it was poppin! Seats were full, energy was high, and they even had live Hawaiian music with someone playing and singing the ukulele and guitar, which really set the mood. I ordered the Brewery Huckleberry Hard Seltzer and it was so good. It was light, refreshing, and tasted more like a berry cider. It was definitely my kind of drink. I wasn't super hungry since I had a late lunch, but you can't have a drink without a little something, so I went with the kids cheeseburger. Just a heads up, it's definitely more like a mini slider in size but it was tasty. They don't automatically add condiments, so make sure to ask for ketchup and mustard if you would like it your way. Also the french fries, it was perfectly crisp with a light batter that gives them just the right crunch. As someone who loves fries, these were so bomb. Shoutout to Yvette, our server. This is a nice place to stop by and get some fun drinks. We made a reservation for late Sunday night and were seated outside on the patio. Our server brought us waters while we looked over the drink menus. We weren't going to get food, just drinks. I ordered the Piranha pool and it was delicious. This place was so much fun! We went on the Disneyland app to "get in line," but even from the parking lot, it said we were too far. We weren't worried, though, because the app said the wait for walk-ups was only 10 minutes. Except it wasn't. We were told the wait was 75 minutes. We killed time going into the shops and walking through the Disneyland Hotel "lands." We ended up waiting about 50 minutes. Not too bad because we stayed busy. We requested seats at the bar. There is outdoor seating, surrounded by fire torches and tiki lamps, and there was a couple singing Christmas Carol's Polynesian style. Inside, it is very tiki bar style-- carved poles, tikis, bamboo, and Beach items. It was very festive with colored lights, and some Christmas touches. For cocktails, we ordered: * a Zombie *Krakatoa Punch *Piranha Pool. We all really enjoyed our drinks--they were yummy!!! For dinner, we ordered: *Pupu Platter *Pan Roasted Striped Bass *Kailua-style Pork Nacho Poutine The pupu platter has sticky chicken wings, fried shrimp, gyoza, and fried greenbeans with garlic aioli. It's was good. I tasted hubbies sea bass and it was ah-may-zing!!! We asked to sit at the bar to see the bartender antics, which you may miss at a table. For instance, when a certain cocktail was ordered he would yell"snowstorm" and throw crushed ice, and for a rainstorm he would pull out a bottle and "make it rain." When hubby ordered his drink, the lights lowered and a thunderstorm hit the room. All very fun. I totally recommend Trader Sam's, but would highly suggest having a reservation. Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar is an absolute must when visiting the Disneyland Hotel. From the moment you arrive, the tiki room décor sets the tone, lush details, playful atmosphere that reminds you of the Disneyland attraction and a fun, energetic vibe that feels like a mini vacation. We ordered the PuPu platter and every bite delivered: the shrimp tempura were perfectly cooked, the chicken wings were flavorful, and the fried green beans were outstanding. Drinks were creative, strong, and expertly crafted, exactly what you want in a tiki bar experience. The outdoor patio with tiki torches is fantastic for families wanting to soak in the ambiance, while the indoor space being 18+ keeps the energy lively and adult. What a fun and Disney sort of experience when you come to this tiki house. Their drinks were good and the tiki mugs can be purchased as collectible. The service were a bit slow but ones you are inside the food and drinks comes quickly. You will have the choice to sit inside or outdoor. The inside was small but well decorated. Decided to give Trader Sam's breakfast a try before our half day at Disney and had a great time! You're able to put your name on the waitlist through the app, but we walked up at around 8:30 and got seated at the bar right away. The vibes inside are top notch, you feel like you're being transported to a different place. We weren't looking to drink early in the morning, but decided to give their Holichata a try and it was really good! It was definitely on the sweeter side, and you could barely taste the alcohol, so I recommend if that's your kind of drink. For breakfast, we shared the Loco Mocco Burrito and the Ube-stuffed French toast. The loco Moco Burrito was a bit disappointing, and didn't really remind us of a loco mocco. They give a generous portion of rice, and a side of salsa that I didn't think paired well with the burrito. The Ube-Stuffed french toast was delicious! The toast was nice and fluffy, and the ube cream was perfectly sweet. The staff here were all super friendly and attentive, and gave great recommendations!
