It should be a fairly simple and straight forward task that any competent sales person would excel at. We needed some wood to construct a raised vegetable garden. First the 15 year old boy in the lumber section tried to help. The problem here was he didn't know anything about wood. Or life in general it seemed. We struggled to make it clear we needed suitable wood for a vegetable garden. He stumbled at simple questions such as "what is this treated with and will it kill us is we grow vegetables in it?". After the boy failed us, in stepped Norm. Now in Norm's defense, it seemed he had only just started the evolutionary journey from ape to man. He was even less helpful than the boy. Using phrases such as "it's treated with the stuff they use at the treatment place" and "it is Saturday, I don't know" and "Ugg Ugg"; he wasn't helpful at all. Overall, it seemed like we had greatly inconvenienced the staff with our requests to purchase materials from them. The garden center part of the store wasn't much better. A middle aged lady who seemed like she'd rather be anywhere else didn't seem to know where they kept small plastic pots for raising seedlings. When pressed on the issue she leaned over the counter, stared outside and pointed in the general direction of some large terracotta pots. "POTS" she mumbled. On closer inspection there were no small plastic pots suitable for raising seedlings anywhere to be found. Later she conceded they probably didn't stock them and we would be better off going to a proper nursery. A very unpleasant experience. I had expected better. Next time I'll stick with Bunnings.
