Vieira salteada sobre tartaleta de patata, bacon y espinaca (€6.25) (Sautéed scallops over potato tartlets, bacon and spinach)
    Albert C.

Fresh, modern take on seafood tapas. I was walking back to Centro from an appointment, when I abruptly realized that it was nearly 3pm and I hadn't yet lunched. I wandered on the scorching deserted streets until I ran into this cute seafood place with shaded seating until two large parasols. Btw, in case you too are confused by the name, the sign on the restaurant reads Luz de Mar by Tradevo. It is a small restaurant, and although I would have preferred an air-conditioned seat indoors, I was seated outside. Thankfully, under the shade. At least it was quiet, and the balmy breeze helped. The service was even slower than the typically leisurely pace of Seville. (Perhaps due to the busy hour? Duly noted - don't fight for seats or service with locals at 3pm.) I wouldn't recommend this place if you're short on time. The first thing you'll notice is that the menu (en español) is printed on the paper placemats. The second thing you'll notice is how many different types of preparations they have! I wish I had come with friend or two to try out more dishes. Instead I settled on ordering two half portions (media ración). = Food = Vieira salteada sobre tartaleta de patata, bacon y espinaca (€6.25): (Sautéed scallops over potato tartlets, bacon and spinach) Fresh scallops, albeit quite small, were tender and flavorful. The potato tartlet was very satisfying, but saturated in olive oil. Tallarín de sepia con una boloñesa de sus tentáculos y ali oli de su tinta (€5.80): (Squid-tagliatelle with Bolognese of tentacles and squid ink aioli) I had no idea the "pasta" would be made from thin slices of squid. The chewy/crisp texture of the tentacle nibs dances playfully on your tongue tip. The creamy, garlicky sauce counters most of the fishy flavor without overpowering the seafood savoriness of the squid ink. A delight for seafood lovers! = Verdict = I highly recommend seafood lovers to try this place, and bring a friend to share plates. Many of the other dishes, like the fried fish, looked great as well, so I'll have to come back again to try them!

Maquila is a perfect place to chill when it is in between meals and you just want a snack!…read more Nice selection of crafted beers from local breweries on taps. We tried: Happy Otter Summer Ale In Yer Face Small plate of food to share. You can actually pick the size and they also have daily specials on their chalkboard. (Menu in English available and bartender was nice enough to help us with their daily specials which was in Spanish only) We tried: Bravas Maquila - (Euro 4) Spicy Potatoes with Garlic Mayonnaise Navajas Gallegas a La Mantequilla - (Euro 4.8) Razor Clams I did understand **Chris' Ghost Scorpion Salsa Extrapicante**. So make sure you ask them for their extra spicy hot sauce to go with your food! Good looking bartenders and super friendly service. Must sit at the bar.

We came to Maquila because most people said they had the only other craft beer in town besides Hops…read more& Dreams, but we found more than just beer. We also found beer. Such good beer. The long and short of it: 1. Beer. Maquila specializes in some of the only craft beer in Seville (see Hops & Dreams for further options) and they've got plenty of it. They seemed to center around the sweeter beers, hefes and saisons, but they seemed to change regularly so this might have just been at the time we were there. Still I got an IPA and a porter and couldn't have been happier. Then I had another IPA and was happier. 2. Food. Maquila also offered a pretty diverse menu if you're there for dinner. The mussels really stood out. Tossed in Chinese 5 spice they were succulent and delicious, so much so that my vegetarian fiance devoured most of the plate (seafood was partially back on the menu). Pair that with some tasty croquettes and chicken wings over noodles (why the hell not) and we had an odd and tasty pre-dinner. 3. Atmosphere. Maquila feels like a local bar in a really friendly city. It feels that way because that's pretty much what it is, but the room was bright and warm, the staff was friendly, there ample room and bar seating and it didn't seem overly loud even though it was full. A nice place to grab a drink. 4. Price. Converting to the Euro was the wrong way to go currency wise at this time (for some reason they wouldn't take Moroccan Dirham), but 3 appetizers and 4 beers came out to just over $40 USD. I would have taken that even had everything not been as good as it was. And it was. 5. Location. On the edge of the Hercules de Alameda, there are plenty of other bars and restaurants in the area if you're feeling like a more substantial dinner or a glass of wine/cocktail. There was pretty much nothing wrong with Maquila, as solid a spot as you'll find in Seville if you're looking for a good beer. Given the lack of it around the city, it becomes a must visit when you get tired of the same 3 drinks. We'll be back on our next trip for muscles and beer round 2. Overall Grade: A

Our hostess brought to the last high table in front of the wine cabinet which I absolutely loved. As the owner himself being the Chef came by to the table to explain the 3 different styles of eating we elected to try the option in which he cooks as a meal that you are unaware of what he will actually make for the table. Oh boy, we where all absolutely blown away and amazed. The food and service was spectacular. The recommended wines went so well with our meals. Honestly, time flew by and we where one of the last groups to leave the restaurant. I will highly recommend this location as you will not be disappointed. We even got take a few photos with our main servers who where appending in all the extra details. Enjoy.

Good dinner option for a non-central Italian restaurant in Seville…read more Front of house was cool and welcoming. Ordered the tasty Duck Pâté with homemade bread rolls (kudos to the pizza chef) & garnish salad which was exactly as expected, so thumbs up for my starter. For the main course, I got the Pizza Capricciosa with all the right high-quality ingredients for toppings, but the pizza dough itself wasn't matching the upper decker quality, as I could not get the usual olive oil & yeast aftertaste that is a must if you're following the authentic Neapolitan pizza recipe...room for improvement there... On my second visit, I asked for an entrecote but they run out of "solomillo" beef cut; big disappointment; however, manager/owner recommended me a nice plate of Panzerotti ai Funghi which were really silky creamy and scrumptious, 7/10 there...as I was still hungry (me, big dude Kemosabe) I ate a rather big Ensalada Pino (a mix salad with tuna and all) and that finally did the trick of placating my appetite. As Da Pino has around 10 tables only it's advisable to book in advance if you plan to eat during busy times (mainly Friday, Saturday & weekdays after 9 pm) WiFi's available & strong. Will certainly go back.

Although the food was of an acceptable, but not outstanding, quality the service was entirely lack luster. From the start, it was clear that employees were limited as no one greeted us at the door to seat us for almost 5 minutes. When we were finally seated we realized that there was only one, glum looking, server in a restaurant containing a minimum of 15 tables. We ordered a variety of delicious sounding dishes, but when they arrived it was clear that although the pizza was OK, all of the pastas were pedestrian and overly creamy. I don't mean to seem picky but real Italians, or even good chefs, don't choose to add cream to their pasta sauces. The service after this was quite slow going and the waitress had to consult for some time with the chef about which fish were on offer- demonstrating a worrying lack of knowledge of the menu! The desserts were, however, very good and the chefs were relatively willing to make small changes to the toppings on their delicious crepes. N.B. Don't expect a normal smoothie if you order off the drinks list... It seems to be some uniquely discolored, sweetened (and flavored?) glass of milk mixture.
