Argyle St Carpark

As you drive up to the carpark (entry opposite the hospital), the number of vacant parks is displayed clearly on a board, as well as the number of vacant parks at the other two council-run carparks (at Centrepoint and Melville St). All three carparks have the same board posted at their entry, which is super handy, for example if Centrepoint's display says FULL, you can easily identify whether it's worth driving down to Argyle or Melville carparks. (This happened to me just recently.) All three carparks have the same pricing structure: free parking for the first 1.5hrs, then $1 up to 2hrs, $3 up to 3hrs, $5 up to 4hrs, gradually increasing up to $22 for 9hrs+. Pretty decent prices, particularly compared to the costs of some of the metred street parking in the city. Bonus: on Sundays and public holidays, it's again free for the first 1.5hrs, but then the maximum you'll pay all day is $3. The Argyle St carpark is open until 10pm seven days a week (the other two close around 6pm). Lifts take you down to the Wellington Centre, a shopping plaza between Argyle St and Elizabeth Mall. It's a fine place to park for a day of exploring Hobart's CBD. Always remember to pay for your parking before you head back to your car - the line to validate can be long, but stay in it, because it's a prepaid ticket booth to get out.

Then there's the fact that attached to the shopping centre is one of the Council's three multi-storey parking lots where your first 1.5hrs of parking is free, free, FREE! That's the real kicker for me. Plus you pop right out of Centrepoint onto Murray St for even more wonderful CBD shopping, hoorah!
