Now being from the US many people would think this is related to once great discount store I grew up in the 70's and early 80's. This is no where near that as it is SOO much better. Woolworths is one of two markets within Macquarie Center, the area's main "mall". Being from the US I never expected a supermarket inside their shopping mall but hey it makes sense. One stop shop for everything you may need. Though the market is no where as big as I am used to in NY it fits perfectly into the area. The produce and meats are very fresh tasting. The chicken and eggs come from free range farms and the snacks and chips were great helping me through the long hours. The nice feature they have here are that there are a lot more self service check out line and they are staffed with very helpful employees. This and the overall cleanliness of the store makes it quite and enjoyable experience wandering up and down the aisles. If this type of market were states side I would certainly be a regular as I am here.

There are quite a few other fruit shops within easy walking distance so it pays to shop around a bit if you have the time. With plenty of fresh fruit and vege, good prices and plenty of Asian produce, it's no wonder that this is one of the main hubs in Eastwood's 'Chinese side'. I always see an Aunty of some sort when I'm here - whether a real relative, a friend of my parents or a parent of my friends. Wear good shoes and be prepared to lose all concept of personal space, particularly on Saturdays. It's always a bit overwhelming for newbies, and who knows how the line for the checkout really works, but it's better than legging it to Flemington and you'll emerge with prettier veggies than the gwei lo next door who shops at Woolies. Just don't take all the good bok choy.

Fantastic laundry powder and dish washing detergents the best bamboo toothpaste ever, also a pine-needle toothpaste that I am gradually acquiring a taste for. Their fresh produce is very good and excellent quality (and some imported from Korea at a very reasonable prices, hard to believe I know) The staff are always ready to help and explain any product that you have no idea how to use. When you go regularly as I do, you are given a card and for every ten dollars you spend you receive a stamp, then you can redeem them for different items...I'm saving mine up for a grill plate. Nearly there! There are other speciality food shops in the street that are always worth a visit. I guarantee that once you have been here you will be back. It's so much fun exploring different cuisines. Every time I visit a new city overseas I always spend time checking out the local supermarkets..Japan and for than matter anywhere in Asia is always challenging my senses oh and my purse..as do the food stores in Rowe St, Eastwood

They sell other fruits and veggies too.. The fruits are definitely fresh and last a lot longer. They also have a frozen and dairy section inside where you can buy cheese and yoghurt. At the entrance/exit to the store there is a small counter where you can sample chocolate dipped strawberries and a variety of dips. You can buy Lebanese breads(also sold here) to enjoy the Hummous.

It was Saturday night steak night. So I decided to splurge on Wagyu beef. After looking at several…read morelocal butchers that didn't carry it, went to the butcher at Woolies. They not only had Wagyu, but it was on sale!! I previously was only able to get Wagyu at special butchers or Japanese markets. Which i wasn't able to travel to on this occasion (School sports on Saturday!). So I went to Woolies that not only had it, but had a marble score of 8-9 at $95kg! The cuts were thick and marble score was there. Everyone was so impressed with the steaks, and when I said I got them from Woolies, they said "shut the front door"! Exceptional it was, and thank you Woolies!! Saved my Saturday steak night! Absolutely sumptuousness!!
