Fiona couldn't go out of her way to make you feel like home; she is a gem. The hotel overlooks Ballybunion Beach and is simply breathtaking while having dinner in the dining room during sunset. The hotel is closed during the months of October through April, however, that depends on the weather.

When I can in , reception was closed and when I knocked on the door(as was posted) the lady was a bit abrupt. She directed me to the leisure center - took me a minute to find it. The lady I dealt with there was very pleasant. Once we got to the cabin , we found our door didn't have a lock ( see picture) only 2 people could shower with hot water per day( there were 4 of us) only one bedroom had a hair dryer and two of the heating units didn't work. There were 4 channels available on the TV and the couch was very uncomfortable. Each bedroom had a full/double and a twin and lots of storage space.

Since our childhood , they have done a complete luxurious renovation of the hotel and it is absolutely stunning in every possible way. It's owned by The Liebherr group who also own The Europe Hotel. Dunloe is set amid the Macgillycuddy Reeks, (The highest Mountain Range in Ireland and has roughly 60 acres of adjoining grounds where you can do all kinds of family fun stuff. I was welcomed with a lovely chat over tea and a scone by the innkeeper Rosaleen O'Leary! I really appreciated her taking time to get to know me and share her thoughts on Irish history and culture. My room was good sized, appealing and a great value. Showers were hot with good water pressure. The gardens on the property were just gorgeous - imagine Secret Garden type plantings. My stay included a complete hot Irish breakfast with lots of coffee, eggs and Irish bacon - similar to a fried ham. Mmmm. I enjoyed a morning walk down the road to Ross Castle, which I highly recommend. Who knew the advancements in medieval architecture and defense? Ross Castle Lodge B&B is adjacent to the Killarney National Park, and one may walk through the park to get to the 'town' of Killarney where you'll find lots of restaurants, pubs & shops. They gave us great recommendations and also drove us to the bus station when we had to leave. Killarney was amazing! It was our favorite city in Ireland and we would love to go back. It is one of the most beautiful settings I had the privilege to experience in my two week tour of Ireland. On top of that, the owner is extremely nice and helpful. Breakfast was tasty, too. The minute you swing open the heavy wooden door, and step into the dramatic entryway, you are practically transported to Ireland in the1800's. We arrived to meet our charming host Eileen, an absolute sweetheart who bent over backwards to make our stay inviting and memorable! Our room was perfect: clean, cozy, and homey. There was a hair drier, coffee and tea service in the room, and wi-fi (though somewhat spotty and slow reception). The parlor down stairs is stunning to behold: richly upholstered chairs and couches, antique curios, old paintings on an elegant backdrop of period wallpapering. It is an absolutely classic Victorian Irish home. The b&b is only a brisk 10 minute walk to the breathtaking Kilarney National Park and a small bike rental shop, and a quick cab ride away from the downtown area. Unfortunately, our train was rather early in the morning, and while Eileen did her best to get us a little breakfast (mind you, while waiting on 5 other tables in her fabulous dining room) we simply did not have enough time to enjoy her full Irish breakfast. She efficiently brought out our coffee (one pot caffeinated, one decaffeinated for my cousin) Irish porridge, toast and rolls, and delicious berry pancakes before we were whisked aware by our taxi.
