ride to the south rim from the north was fairly terrible. plenty of space, but the AC was non-functional and we had two individuals with us who had just gotten out of the hospital from having heat sickness. so... not ideal. Corey was great though! our drive from the north to the south was flawless and he even was available to make a last minute reservation while I was IN THE CANYON! crazy. dude is a legend. mad props. deserves a raise and a bonus. read more

We booked shuttles from the North Rim Trailhead and Jacob Lake Inn in January for our Rim 2 Rim trip. In March, the company decided to change the shuttle schedule to times that unfortunately didn't work for us. They promised to honor the original times since that's what our basis for booking was, but when the time came, actually just forced us onto the new shuttle schedule for one of the two shuttles and then just completely never showed up for the second shuttle (9:16 am at Jacob Lake), making us wait over 3 hours past our original pickup time and causing us to nearly miss our flights out of PHX (thankfully I was able to drive 85 mph to PHX). NEVER ONCE did they call us to let us know they weren't going to be coming for the 9:16 am pickup so we just sat waiting outside of our hotel for hours, during which time we called them several times and they assured us the shuttle was on the way (a lie). Finally when they did arrive, the general manager, Herbie Loveland, was extremely short, rude and condescending with us... which made no sense since we were left waiting because of THEIR error. We called and asked to speak to the manager several times and for a refund and were told the manager wasn't in and they were going to "wait to see what happened" before deciding on a refund; management still has yet to call us back. This company has a monopoly on Transcanyon transportation so not sure there are really other options, but just be extra cautious with planning in case they decide to leave you stranded. Also, the general manager is a huge jerk and I hope whoever's in charge sees this -- customer service isn't his forte. Update: they refunded the cost of our shuttle (which is great!), but still stand by the review above and the comments about the GM/his general lack of professionalism and customer service skills. read more

If you are journeying from South Rim to the North Rim, I recommend you just turn around and hike back...it would be far less painful than dealing with this shuttle service. Otherwise make sure you get in contact with Laura and/or the owner who are actually wonderfully helpful kind, something I would not say about the GM Herb. If you can do ANYTHING other than this company, it's worth the time and money!! We booked a 8:00am shuttle in January from Jacob's lake to North Rim for our trip in May. We were told in March they were updating the shuttle times and would honor the original time (they didn't). The new schedule was an hour later (9:16am) which wasn't ideal, but would have be ok. If it had showed up... My party of three almost missed our flights out of Phoenix - we only made them because of speeding and flights getting delayed. Our shuttle that we paid for and reserved 5 months in advance never showed up. They also never told us they wouldn't be picking us up, which led to three hours of back and forth with the company. See below. 9:26am -- 10 minutes late. Called and was told it was "running late, but I see your reservations and it's coming." 9:40am -- 25 minutes late. Called again and was told to "wait another 15 minutes and if they still don't come, call back." 9:54am -- 40 minutes late. Called again and was told they would speak to the manager and call me back. 10:03 and 10:04 (no answer) 10:11 (on hold for 23 minutes) -- hour late. I was told they'd send a new shuttle to get us, but the earliest they'd get there was 11:30 (two hours past reservation time) 11:36 -- I get a call from driver/manager Herbie Lovelan, who says he's at Kaibob Lodge, which is still 30 minutes away!! 12:30 -- the shuttle finally arrives, but it's not one that they sent for us, it's just the second shuttle time. We end up joining with them, and they were also upset because it was an hour later than it was supposed to arrive for their reservation. Herbie Loveland was horrible - the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Thank god for the driver, Larry, who was actually empathetic and did his job exceptionally well. When asked about a refund, we were told to "wait and see what happens" and that the manager would contact me - he never did. I called the next day and spoke with Laura, who was very helpful and told me she'd be refunding us. You'd think with them being the only option, they'd have a system down. They don't. This is a huge risk if you book, and I'd recommend calling and confirming multiple times prior to your reservation to make sure they pick you up if you decide to book with them. read more

Very disappointed. It's a shame there's not more competition because $120 per person from the North Rim to the South Rim is ridiculous. The drive is three and a half hours not five but I suspect they list it as five hours to make it look like it's longer than it is to justify the charge. The shuttle times are also not good. I wanted to hike the North Rim to the South Rim but the shuttle wouldn't arrive to the North Rim until 1 p.m. after leaving the south at 8 a.m. If your camping at Phantom Ranch or Bright Angel Campground, like I was, you wouldn't have time to get there from the North Rim before dark. The shuttles should leave the South Rim at 5 or 6 a.m. Another issue I had with the shuttle is they only drop you off at the Bright Angel Lodge and wouldn't drop us off at the Backcountry Office where my car was parked. So after being dropped off at the Bright Angel Lodge we had to take another shuttle to the Backcountry Office. The driver claimed that the shuttle service wasn't allowed to drop us off at the Backcountry Office but I don't believe this. I took a taxi from the Backcountry Office to the South Kaibab trail. If the taxi service can do this so could this shuttle service. On my trip from the North Rim to the South Rim the driver was over an hour late because management didn't tell him that he was driving that morning. We were suppose to leave at 7 a.m. but didn't leave until 8:15 a.m. I heard the management team discussing it and calling the driver from the front desk. The driver later told us later it was supposed to be his day off. Since the driver was late they told us we could get breakfast at the Kaibab Lodge. Unfortunately I decided to get breakfast for the two of us and it was a big mistake. I've had better breakfast at my university cafe. One person asked for potatoes and the server told them it takes a long time to make the potatoes and once they are put out in the buffet they are gone in a few minutes. The eggs, bacon and sausage were very bad. They should have offered us free breakfast because of the late start. I can see why there are so many bad reviews. read more

Recent posts had me worried - but my trip and luggage transfer was without issue! I would recommend TransCanyon shuttle to the location you are starting so that you can just hike to your car and not worry about missing the shuttle if you are hiking slower than expected. Or at least staying the night you finish and then taking the shuttle the next day. They will leave on time with or without you. The overnight bag we brought to the north rim returned to BA lodge without issue using transcanyon. Jackie our driver was awesome and we stopped to see condors! We also used them for a lift to the North Kaibab trailhead from Grand Canyon lodge North Rim. It was expensive but convenient for a 5 AM start. read more

First and foremost, our shuttle driver, Darren, was a pleasure. So kind and accommodating! Couldn't have had better service on his part; however, the Trans Canyon Shuttle service is very poorly designed. Only two times to pick up throughout the entire day: 8 AM & 2 PM. Needless to say, they know they have the market cornered as the only transportation from rim to rim. To put it in perspective, my spouse and I hiked rim to rim for 11.5 hrs and were forced to wait 2.5 hrs after finishing our hike for the shuttle's next departure. Very inconvenient and we had to plan our hike completely around the shuttle service -- ridiculous and grueling after a strenuous hike. Point of the matter: Do better for your clientele, Grand Canyon. read more

They came through in a pinch when the North Rim lodge lost power and closed down. Our driver was punctual, professional, courteous and friendly. We left as soon as we were all at the shuttle (about 25 minutes early) and arrived about an hour ahead of schedule. read more

Our shuttle left 10 minutes before the scheduled depart time. We were right across the street, one of our party members was using the bathroom and we watched them take off. We called and called, but couldn't get ahold of anyone for 20 minutes. They eventually came back for us but it took an extra 45 minutes and everyone blamed us for making them late, when they were the ones that left early. I know it says to be there 30 minutes early, and we weren't, but the shuttle still abandoned us 10 minutes before the departure time. Their website says they won't leave until the scheduled time. The rest of the drive was mostly fine. Was gonna give 2 stars but have to give 1 because the shuttle driver blamed us the whole ride (she said, "sorry folks, some of you were late so we're way behind schedule" like 5-10 times), and the dropoff was incredibly inconvenient. We, and literally everyone else in the shuttle, had to take a 20 minute bus ride to get to our cars. The shuttle drove right past where our cars were, another 10 minutes, when it could have easily dropped us where everyone was going. read more

Contrary to the recent posts I had a great experience with their services. We used the shuttle to get from the South Rim back to the North Rim, after completing the Rim to Rim hike. The shuttle team members we worked with were really GREAT- super friendly, skilled, and knowledgeable! Paul was our shuttle driver and was really great. He went the extra mile to accommodate those on his shuttle, while still being respectful of everyone's time and plans! These shuttles run on time with or without those that have reservations- so it's VERY important to be there on time. As with everything when you are planning a trip you should factor in buffer time. DO ANYTHING ELSE BESIDES USE THIS SERVICE They "forgot" to bring my bags across which had my medication, warm clothes for a cold night, and any luxuries I looked forward to after hiking for 15 hours. This shuttle service really screwed up our plans and our safety. For one, they only brought 2 of our 5 bags to the South Rim via their luggage drop service. On top of that, they delivered these 2 pieces of luggage to the wrong lodge 20 miles away. After a long day on the trail you look forward to having your belongings show up where they are meant to be at the time they are supposed to be there. Trans Canyon also requested an extra $100 fee for an oversized bag after they did not deliver on their original service of sending our 5 bags to the North Rim at the North Grand Canyon Lodge. I asked to speak with the owner to discuss but instead they just charged the extra $100 immediately. Very unprofessional. Those bags that were left behind meant that members of our group had to deal with the following: -No Medication or glasses or contacts -No toiletries or warm clothes for camping in 38 degree weather or fresh clothes after hiking for 14 hours -(Thank god the bags that were sent had sleeping bags and tents) The next day we had booked a shuttle with the same company back to the South Rim. This did not go smoothly either. Our group of 5 was separated into different vans leaving at different times rather than the 7am shuttle we had originally booked. There was a 45 minute gap between the shuttles causing waiting time on both ends. Also, the 3 bags that were never sent to the north rim the night prior, were then sent the next day without confirming this with our party causing our bags to be sent to the North Rim while we were getting a shuttle back to the South Rim. The drivers were very kind and accommodating, however the lack of organization and an understanding of the basic business needs was far from adequate. read more

They showed up an hour late for pick up and charge expensive prices. the driver Robin was asked by every passenger to pull over briefly as all of our vehicles were located in the exact transit route and refused. Do not book this service if you need to go from the North Rim Lodge to the North Kaibab Trailhead at 4am. We did thinking they came when they said they would, but they didn't show. We had to walk the two miles with full backpacks to start our Rim to Rim. I called for a refund and talked with the manager. I was told the best they could do was a $10 refund on the $25 fee. So, I was penalized because they didn't show when they said they would. Bad company, bad service. read more

The shuttle and all 6 riders were an hour early and we got to get back to civilization faster which was a huge plus. Our driver, Pyra, was very friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. Very unhappy customer. Purchased what I was told (called to confirm) was a 5/17 van shuttle from South to North Rim, arriving at 1pm. After 30 min delay they loaded us on an extremely unsafe bus for a 6 hour journey. The bus kept overheating and the driver had to stop multiple times and wait. There was no AC and the toilet was broken. The driver even let us know the bus was with a mechanic for months and he never touched it. Driver then turned around and made a 6 hour return journey. This company does not care about safety of their passengers or employees. read more

And our driver, Charlie, only made our trip better! We got along so well with him, that he met up with us on our hike out and gave us the extra motivation we needed on those last 2 miles of the Bright Angel Trail. If I could give MORE stars I would. Ended up being way more than just a shuttle, the route takes you by multiple other sites and land marks. Our driver was awesome, super cool, knew everything and basically acted as a tour guide for everything you could think of along the route. When I told him I would like to make a reservation for 3 people he then said I really needed to make reservations for six people, referring to the person who had previously called, as if I was that person after I had already told him I was not. Super impressed with this shuttle! We used it on May 31, 2019 to get from the South Rim to the North Rim for a Rim to Rim hike. I was dreading the long drive but it was extraordinarily scenic and our driver Steve was fantastic! He was a wealth of local information and acted as the perfect tour guide on everything from geology to native culture. The trip went much faster than I expected and the rest stops were perfectly timed. To top off the great service, I somehow left a favorite hat on the shuttle and Steve went out of his way to return it to me! This is my second time riding the Trans Canyon Shuttle, and I wanted to write a review for the driver Charlie. Our group was exhausted after driving through the night from Denver to the South Rjm, but Charlie still made the ride to the North Rim enjoyable. He was full of information about the area surrounding the route, and gave us plenty of time at the rest stops. He was respectful with loading and unloading our gear, and all around pleasant. Reliable, on-time, comfortable, safe. Hit every note. Transport in a multi-person van, with a trailer in back for the luggage/backpacks. Met in the lobby at Bright Angel, and they waited til everyone was there, guided us to the van, and we left. Two stops in a ~4h trip at gas stations for BR breaks and for cold liquids. We did rim-to-rim North-to-South, and shuttled South to North before the hike; didn't realize that the North Rim Lodge was pretty far from the trailhead. Our driver offered to come the next morning at 4am, and take us to the trailhead for $5 a head. Well, well worth it and at 4am, there he was, waiting for us as promised. After much research, planning and checking with staff I relied on Trans-Canyon to safely transport my bags to the North Side as I hiked from South Side. Bags were not transported. When I contacted them after a 25 mile hike across the Grand Canyon I spoke with a Larry Cain who immediately yelled at me stating, "LET'S START FROM THE BEGINNING! YOU DID NOT SPEAK OR CHECK WITH ME!" When I asked Larry how would I know that I needed to speak with him after speaking with two other staff members who confirmed my bags were appropriately check in and will be transported. Larry replied in an incredibly loud, disrespectful and hostile tone, "I am the dispatcher and run Trans-Canyon transport." I realized there was nothing he could do to get my bags in that moment but it would have made a world of difference if he said, "I am sorry you are going through this I will do my best to get your bags as soon as possible." Instead, he argued and blamed myself and the lodge. He charged me more money and couldn't even be bothered to confirm if my bags were still there. I was worried as not only were my provisions for recovery in my bags but also were my medications. Larry never bothered to ask if I was okay and if I needed anything...especially after hiking across the 7th wonder of the world! He did ask me what my bag looked like and I said it is black and has the US Army patch on it. He said nothing which told me mountains. I am grateful for my training and believe it is the reason why I was able to successfully overcome Larry's misgivings. Trans-Canyon drivers are amazing and very kind. Larry being a dispatcher of Trans-Canyon has absolutely NO customer value or compassion. Larry is insulting and rude. I warn anybody who might be thinking about using Trans-Canyon. Don't! It is an embarrassing company that clearly gives Larry the control and he doesn't realize how many people place their lives in Trans-Canyon's hands. I am fortunate to have Military training in the US Army. This training helped me adapt and survive the journey and challenges the Grand Canyon put forth. It is because of this training and understanding of adaptability rendered me to succeed even when faced with incompetence of Trans-Canyon services (Larry). We are blessed to have the compassion of North Side staff who went above and beyond to display human empathy. Not once did Trans-Canyon make any effort to repair this experience for me or try to improve my perception of Larry's lack of customer service. They were quick to take more money and get rid of me. read more

We had a hike planned for August 2013 and contacted this shuttle company for the trip from South Rim to North Rim. We had a very enjoyable shuttle. The shuttle picked us up promptly at the Bright Angel Lodge at 1:30. The trip was approx. 4.5 hours, just as advertised on the website with 2 restroom breaks. We were pleasantly surprised by the knowledge of the driver about the area and the fact hiked the canyon many times. We'll be sure to use this shuttle company for our next Grand Canyon Hike. read more
