I am leaving one star because I cannot leave zero. I spent 8 minutes short of 2 hours on the phone to get a fax number to fax in a death certificate. They said they would review the claim 30 days from receiving the fax, which they have not yet agreed they have received. I had the funeral company fax the certificate to them directly, to have proof of delivery. Hopefully that will work. We have just begun the process and already I am shocked at how bad they are. read more

My brother had policies with Monumental Life Insurance which was bought out by Transamerica. I spent 4 hours on the phone trying to talk to a human to get information about my brother's account. Their AI robot is useless. You get passed around so much trying to speak to a human it is really frustrating. This company needs to do a better job with their customer service. read more

My father had an insurance policy with Transamerica and for months we have been requesting the form that they say we need in order to proceed with the claim. I was told twice that it was mailed to my old address even though I've given them my current address several times. Then I was told there was a "typo" on the envelope they mailed. Before that I was told the form did not exist and I'd need to write a letter and have it notarized. Then told that was wrong. They hung up on me several times. Difficulty reaching a supervisor or manager. Told they were "unavailable" or "busy". Once I called and they were in the Philippines, next time South Africa. Even when I requested to speak to someone in America they would not allow it. Months later still no form and claim not paid. Buyer beware. read more

Transamerica uses the stall and delay tactic when required to pay out onlife insurance. They issue checks that the US banking system will not cash because they are not on the Positive Pay List. When you ask them to reissue the check, they stall with process changes and hurdles. When you send them pictures of the check being denied by a major US bank, they stall. When you ask to speak to a manager, they will not talk to you immediately and they will not call you back. The cost to Transamerica to deny payment is now larger than the final payout. It does not make business sense to use this tactic. I highly suggest you never do business with Transamerica or expect you will not get your payout. read more

My 15 year life insurance policy "lapsed" ( terminated ) in 11 28 2022. I was told that all I had to do was "let the policy lapse" This standard in the industry. ( My previous 15 year monthly was $455. If I were to continue it the price per month would have been $11,858 a month ) After that and for two years I never heard from Transamerica again. Now as of October 8, 2024 I have received a letter saying "due to a clarification in the law, your policy remains in-force and is now in the "grace period". "To keep your insurance coverage in force, please send a payment of $30,475.53 at your earliest convenience." WTF - after hearing nothing for two years on a terminated policy!! Tried to call customer service. Ended up in South Africa and after a difficult ( to understand ) conversation, the young woman told me that the company has no call centers in the USA. After 25 minutes the line went bad, she couldn't hear me, and hung up. My original sales guy is no where to be found. I am unable to get anyone on the line that knows anything. I was told by one rep that my wife's life insurance payment problem would be handled immediately, then by another that it'd be handled within 3 days. After receiving no communication, I called another rep who could not do anything and all he could say at the end of our conversation is "Thanks for calling Transamerica. This rep did not know the President of the company's name when I asked for it so I could write him a letter. So I looked up the company' home address in Cedar Rapids IA and wrote a letter to the CEO asking him to intervene and handle this problem. It's been 2 weeks with no communication. Never buy life insurance from Transamerica. They stalled paying out life insurance for my husband after his death. I had all the necessary paperwork and documents the company requested. THEN I had to change the owner on my own life insurance policy because my husband is deceased. I am the insured. I sent all the required paperwork. 18 months later Transamerica comes up with another excuse this missing paperwork ( that was sent) or some other excuse. They have the death certificate the lawyers letter( that cost me several hundred dollars) all the paperwork, and STILL Won't CHange THE NAME OF THE BENEFICIARY TO MY NAME . The bureaucracy is worse than the dept.of motor vehicles.WHEN I finally get the policy changed. Am going to find another company to do business with. Keep in mind we have paid this policy for at least 30 years and the customer service with NO CHANCE of ever speaking with a supervisor to straighten things out is a NIGHTMARE ! Go elsewhere. Transmerica Life Insurance and Annuity Date of Transaction - April 11th 2022 -Amount of money I paid since May 2016 - Monthly payment of $115 =$9200 -The business was committed to provide of Cash Surrender $3221.05 -Nature of the dispute - I requested Cash Surrender due to financial hardship. When I spoke to their representated which was recorded on their end. The rep stated that I will be receiving Cash Surrender of $3221.05 after everything is processed. I sent the requested Cash Surrender Form via fax on April 11th. According to representative the process takes 3 to 5 business days. On April 12th, I received a wire transfer of $1531.75 in my Bank of America, which I will attached transaction snap shot photo. I called Transamerica the next day April 13th to provide a break down of the transaction and the reason of the amount that I received. The representative stated that I will get the breakdown receipt and confirmation in 24 hours. Since I didnt received the email. I called Transmerica again today April 20th, and waited 1 to 2 hours on hold, same representative answered, the one that was suppose to email me the break down of how they came up the amount wired to me. Again he puts me on hold and hung up. I have no receipt or confirmatipn of the transaction that they processed. I really just want to know what happened to the rest of the annuity. I will attached the Cash Surrender form, which I checked off to elect not tohave federal income tax withheld as well as state tax. I will also attached a snap shot of the wire transfer. Please, I really would appreciate if BBB can do something about this. I just complaint to BBB regarding my CAsh surrender.. This place is the worst company. Incompetent and slow. A full year after they knew that my brokerage account was closed, what do they do? Send my systemic withdrawal check to my same old (closed) brokerage account! It has been 10 days now and I'm still waiting for my check. Even after waking them up to the fact that the check was not cashed into a brokerage account that does not exist, and requesting a "rush order" to get my check mailed to my home address, they STILL have not sent it after 3 friggin' days, and it's now Friday! I will probably have to wait another 3 days before MAYBE these people finally get around to sending me my check. On 12/7/20 my Transamerica annuity was transferred from Vanguard to Transamerica for servicing/management. Thus far I have not been able to check on my annuity, either on their web site or their 800 number. After being on hold for 1hour and 8 minutes ...a voice said we now closed(????) If I could give this place a zero, I would. My elderly mother has paid thousands into a policy that this company took over from monumental life. They have given her the runaround for over month now. We have filled out three different forms for her, and they keep sending us new forms or letters. They seem to not want to pay up. I will be call the Insurance Commissioner of Iowa for this companies total disregard of not paying my elderly mother the money she is owed. I am 84 years old and have been paying premiums for 32 years. When I questioned amount of premium increases I was told "it's a little trick we use with figures". Also told, we have computer glitches. Lawsuit filed and currently pending. An attorney from Transamerica offered a settlement proposal, which I accepted, to be presented to his client, Transamerica. The attorney indicated I would be contacted within a few days. It has been over two weeks and I have not heard back from anyone regarding the proposal offered to settle the matter.
