Looks like it is time to write a review since last one is dated 7 years ago. It was very early hours. Made a reservation and showed up on time. We were the very first couple to show up. Ambiance is definetely a plus. Friendly server brought us the menu and took the drink order. We had a small chit chat about the restaurant. His grandmother opened it 30 years ago and she just celebrated 91 years. Wow. I ordered the spaghetti di mare and also margherita pizza. My dish was ok. Only gripe is the freezer burn mark on my shrimp. Margherita pizza was more like a cheese pizza but it was delicious. I had the crust dipped into the olive oil to finish it all. So good. If I had to nitpick, dishes and glasses was chipped. Wine carafee was chipped at the rim also. Not sure of the price but we thought was reasonable. read more

Bison balls. Why was I drawn to bison balls? I kept thinking of that hilarious Alec Baldwin skit on Saturday Night Live when he played Pete Schweddy, and he was showing off his platter of Schweddy balls on NPR's "The Delicious Dish". "I can't help notice, Pete, that your balls appear misshapen." "I like the way your balls smell." "There's no beating my Schweddy balls." Good times. Anyway, the menu indeed had Homemade Pappardelle with Bison Balls for 13.50 Euros (see photo). How could I turn that down? But before I get into that, let me tell you about this trattoria. It's Italiano right down to the red-checkered tablecloths and travel posters on the wall. Intimate it ain't. It's one of those places that seems to target large family reunions and after-work parties because the noise level was a few decibels above an airport tarmac. I was seated at the only table that could accommodate a solitary diner right in the middle of the restaurant for everyone to gawk at. Service was excruciatingly slow, but the menu was so long and unwieldy I needed the time anyway. I was considering the Lamb Liver in Balsamic Vinegar, but the waitress persuaded me not to for reasons that were not clear to me. I then played it safe and had the Tomato Salad with Basil for 5.50 Euros. Look at it (see photo)... it looks like something to sample on the buffet table at your cousin's bar mitzvah. Instead, the whole platter was handed to me like I was waiting for the rest of my party to devour it. It was fine but unadventurous. Then came the balls. The pappardelle tasted fresh with the right al dente texture. The balls, on the other hand, were generic. They could have come from any mammal, four-legged or two-legged, as far as I was concerned. The waitress didn't bother asking if I wanted dessert. In fact, I was summarily ignored as the boisterous parties surrounding me took over like a swarm of lice. One particularly thoughtless German thought nothing of taking photos of his table over my space while I tried to eat. Ah well, if I need a place to eat with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, this would be the place. FOOD - 3 stars...the pappardelle is good, the rest was simply decent AMBIANCE - 2 stars...like eating at the Milano train station during rush hour (see photo for a glimpse) SERVICE - 2.5 stars...they came by at the beginning but I guess my tip was not valuable to them in the scheme of things TOTAL - 3 stars...if you really have a craving for pasta...and lots and lots of company! read more

Wonderful, chill restaurant. Open late, in the gay area, outdoor and indoor seating, Italian food by Italians, not touristy but still had a menu with pictures and language options from English to many others. There are many options on the menu so you'll find something you like. This isn't gourmet or Michelin food, but this place is functional for pasta that's close by if you're in Schoeneberg - if you like easy, many options, outdoor, efficient, this is for you. read more

Decent, if slightly expensive, Italian in the Schöneberg district of Berlin. There's a large main room, and in summer lots of chairs and tables outside, too. Staff were friendly and (joy!) were prepared to provide tap water when asked (which many German restaurants regard as really weird). The menu is a mixture of standard pizza and pasta fare, with a choice of more elaborate mains, which included items like rabbit. A fairly standard two-course meal with beer will set you back around EUR30 a head, but the House Wine is pretty good - we had an excellent Pino Grigio. Going for more elaborate regional dishes and a pudding will set you back about EUR45-50. read more

This was almost a two but it's just average, average, average!!! So we decided to try this place on our first night in Berlin. Placed our order & the waitress didn't listen to the drinks order so missed one off & then we had to wait ages for another one to come around to get the rest of the drinks order placed. Slow service & then so is the food. You have to wait quite a while for that to arrive too & when it does it's just ok! Tried the cannelloni which was a mistake for me - smothered in tomato sauce & very heavy. Don't visit here if you're looking for a quick pit stop! read more

The last think I expected to find was truly authentic Italian food in Berlin. The food here is excellent. I had the lasagna and believe me, it was heaven. Pure heaven. My table mate had pizza, which I tried. Also perfectly executed; the crust was just as it should be: thin, crispy, but with enough chew that you don't feel like you're eating pizza on a cracker. If I had been in town longer, I would've gone back for a second try at this restaurant. It's small, and can get crowded, but the food is totally worth the wait. read more

I came here for a team dinner without having any expectations but was pleasantly surprised. We were a big group so we sat in the corner but this is a small restaurant so be prepared to be cozy. Menu was on a tablet which didn't always work in English. I saw the wheel of cheese and knew immediately I wanted that. They use it to make Cacio e Pepe but mixing cooked pasta in it. I've never tried it before so I was excited to try it. We started with some shared appetizers - salad and burrata pizza. Portions are quite big and ended up over ordering. Then they brought out the cooked pasta and started mixing it in the wheel of cheese. I was so happy I ordered this dish. The pasta was springy and cheesy. I could have used half the portion but too good to waste. I tried someone else's fried whole shrimps which were delicious as well. The aperol spritz was watery and had too much ice but I liked how they used pasta for straws. Towards the end of the meal, Grandma came out to greet us. She was so sweet! The Basilicata region has it best cook in Berlin! 85 years old La Mamma- the owner of the kitchen and all the delicious home made recipes. Fabulous wine, best pizza. La Caponata and Cicoria e favelli- to die for. Pino, the owner's son, keeps place in an ideal cleanliness and very own Italian style. Great for lunch, dinner, celebration. A group of us dined here on a friend's recommendation; some Italian friends of hers had told her that this place is the "real deal". I for one thoroughly enjoyed my "strangelopreti", which was some unusual style of gnocchi involving potatoes, spinach, pine nuts and raisins, served with a simple buttery sauce. Yum! I can't comment personally on how the meat dishes were, but my group really enjoyed our experience here. This is NOT your standard Italian fare; it's very regional and a bit different, so don't come here expecting or seeking that. The worst Italian I have had in Berlin. The white wine was luke warm on a summers eve. I ordered the Octopus Salad, the texture of the octopus was good, not chewy at all, but it was tasteless! Then I had the special Spaghetti with Calamari. The pasta was more like noodles and nothing like Spaghetti, this was OK but then the calamari had no taste whatsoever, what made the whole dish distasteful was the bread crumbs on top! What happened to Parmesan cheese??? Anyway, the location is great, the weather was lovely and the staff very polite, hence that lone star. The food, two thumbs down. read more

Just very below average home cooked food with too much added salt which is the main thing you notice. The service here is very slow and they don't even try to anticipate when a glass is empty etc. On the Friday we were here it was quiet so imagine this on a busy night. I am amazed at the other reviews. Perhaps Mama can cook but the other chefs cannot. This is not good Italian food by any stretch and simply dressing it up as one doesn't count. read more

I have eaten here many times and to be honest it has always been a pleasure ...from the beautiful varied Italian menu to the lovely red wine. Its a charming place with good service and lovely food. I very much like to eat here during the warm summer nights, where food can be enjoyed outside from the pavement tables. Overall a very nice eating experience but best to book a table. read more

I ate here primarily because I was exhausted + wanted to rest my aching feet after schlepping around Berlin's city center all afternoon. I requested a table for one, which the young(ish) male server evidently found to be suprising. (I'm a 25-year-old woman dining alone: not a big deal.) Poor start. Unfortunately, I saw no complimentary olive oil + bread to whet my appetite, so I waited awkwardly until the server (literally) threw a menu my way. No greeting, no smile. I was a bit on edge at this point. I ordered a simple dish: spaghetti carbonara. It was decent, and I finished only half of the plate. The sauce was very thick, and there was nothing subtle about it whatsoever. It wasn't memorable enough for me to ask for a "to go" box. Although the waiter wasn't particularly friendly, the service was fairly quick + efficient, and the price was great: only 11 Euros for pasta + water. That said, I did have terrible stomach pains and fell ill on my walk home. Pretty painful, actually. I blame it on the too-thick sauce and the cheap ingredients. Just finished dinner had the Rabbit and asked if they could roast it a bit. No problem roasted the Rabbit and it was the best meal I had in Berlin!! Super friendly staff and will make your meal any way you want. read more

I went here for dinner while visiting from US. I had the same experience that several other reviews mention when ordering. The waitress asked what I would like to drink. I told her a glass of white wine. She repeated it back to me. 15 minutes later she brings a glass of red. I told her at this point I was ready to order and she said okay and walked off. I could not get her attention for another 15 minutes. I finally ordered the vegetable soup. It looked good but had no taste. I had shrimp scampi for my main course. The shrimp looked good as well but was over cooked, stuck to the shell and again had no taste. The table next to me had pizza that looked really good. The reason for two stars instead of three is the waiters and service at this restaurant really leaves a lot to be desired. read more

We came here because the restaurant we wanted to go to (nearby) was closed because of a private event. It was Friday night and the place was packed but..... there's no excuse for the arrogant treatment we got and the unbelievably slow service. We ordered lasagne and a pasta dish with meatballs. It took almost 45 minutes to serve us. Everyone knows that lasagne in a restaurant is not cooked to order and I'm sure the pasta and the meatballs were already prepared. The only time we got any service was when we told the waitress that we would pay for what we got (beer - which came quickly and soup/salad that took 20 minutes to be served) and we're cancelling the rest of the order. I am giving this restaurant five stars because it was warm, delicious, and welcoming. We came in out of the intense snow to find an authentic Italian experience, and once again, I thought: Italian food is so much better in Germany than German food is. We had the fava bean puree with sauteed chicory (unbelievable), the insalata primavera (with the most delectable fresh Buffalo mozzarella ever), the lasagne (made me reconsider my interpretations of this classic dish), and coniglio caponata, a roasted rabbit dish with tons of perfectly soft eggplant. The house wine was very good and very reasonably priced. Again, my fiancee remarked on the superior quality of German beer, and he happily consumed two ample glasses of Warsteiner. Overall, the meal was expensive (75 euros), but it wasn't unreasonable, considering that I ordered rabbit instead of a pizza. We were happy, and we would definitely send friends in search of a satisfying culinary endeavor. read more
