Everyone was very friendly and was very accommodating for our group of 11 when we walked in with no reservations. It's an older building so it's a little run down but that does not detract from the amazing food. Everything came out fresh and piping hot and I mean Hot! It literally just came off the stove. They have a sign that says "this is not a fast food restaurant, everything is cooked to order so please be patient". It did take some time but it was well worth the wait. We really enjoyed the fresh bread that was brought to the table to start with, the olive oil on the table to dip the bread in was a nice surprise. My wife ordered the cheese ravioli and the sauce was creamy with the right about of spice. The cheese instead the ravioli was smooth and creamy. Delicious! I used the bread to soak up the rest of the sauce after my wife was done, ha. I ordered the Pollo Marsala and the sauce was delicious, I normally like a thicker sauce but was very good, the mushrooms were fresh and not over cooked so it was great and added a nice flavor to the dish, the three chicken breasts we're nice sized was juicy when I cut into them. The only complaint I had was the noodles were under cooked. That was actually the complaint from my daughter who ordered the fettuccini Alfredo without the peas. I would say it was a pleasant experience and I would definitely go back. I would try the spaghetti and meatballs or the ravioli next time. Ok so y'all need to calm down a little. The place is pretty over-hyped which I guess makes sense for an area that struggles to have any restaurant options, but let's not get so carried away. It's just ok, ok? Pros: Flavorful and aromatic selection of scratch-made apps and main dishes. This is not your typical food-in-a-bag-microwave-heated kind of "cooking". We were seated right away on a Saturday night. They offer a pretty full bar, but with meh a wine selection. I'm a sucker for sangrias but I was fairly underwhelmed. Portions are ample to go along with the equally ample prices - surprising for this area. Cons: Gotta say the ambiance and decor of the place is shockingly low-brow - and grimy - for what they're trying to accomplish with the elevated cuisine experience. Water-stained 1960s drop ceiling tiles, dark uninspiring interior with campy unrelated "wall art", country music (wut?!) playing, zero natural light, servers dressed in jeans and rumpled tshirts. Furnishings in general gave off sketchy truck-stop vibes far more than an Italian culinary escape. Cmon people. I've lived in big cities all my life where they don't serve you authentic Italian cuisine in a dumpster. This would be an easy fix - I hope they figure it out. read more

I don't know how it came to be in little Ireton, IA. What I do know is it is the best authentic Italian food in the TriState area! Been here a few times now and every meal has been amazing. I had time for a quick lunch today so pipe into the new restaurant in town! It's was so warm and inviting inside. I was greeted kindly by the wait staff and quickly severed myself and selected the Soup of the Day. I was even offered bred that was tasty too. The chef came out and chatted cheerily with customers and asked how I liked the soup. It by the way was pipping hot and full of yummy vegetables. It also has a pleasant amount of heat in the broth from some invisible chili. It didn't have vermicelli or a pasta in it but that's just fine as it definitely is a very health and nutritious option on the menu. The bread was good and freshly baked. So something about myself to relate it to the cuisine here is that I've traveled too 60+ countries so what I really appreciate is the authenticity and adaptation to the Midwest appetite. The chef is a happy talented intuitive man and explains what is going on in the kitchen so let him or the staff help you with your choices since the food is done so well. If you're a restaurant owner, take note of how important online reviews of your stores are. Because of the limited offerings in Orange City, I searched online for other places. Two things caught my attention about Trattoria Buon Gusto: 1.) Their OUTSTANDING reviews 2.) They had a WEBSITE with a menu and prices. I know that sounds like the basics, but you'd be surprised how many restaurants don't provide a website or menu with prices. For frequent travelers and those watching their diets, this information can be the difference in choosing a restaurant. I was immediately greeted with a friendly hello and welcome from Jose, the Chef, and owner. We spent several minutes talking about his reviews, the menu, and his background story. The menu has many tempting selections, but I finally landed on the tomato Caprese salad and the Chicken Limone. Jose accommodated my request to replace pasta with spinach - all were fresh and delicious! As a plus, there is also a nightly offering of steak. This night it was a ribeye. Prices and portions are a great value on the menu. I'd never heard of Ireton, Iowa but because of Trattoria Buon Gusto, I'll be visiting more often when I'm in the area. Only 20 minutes west of Orange City, or southwest of Sioux Center. GO! It's worth it! And you'll probably become a regular - I know I will be! No joke, this might be most delicious meal I have ever had in all of Sioux County. The linguine scampi was spicy and the shrimp cooked to perfection. The special on the night we were there was a New York strip steak with broccoli, asparagus and roasted potatoes and was a-maz-ing. We ordered the tiramisu for dessert because it was pretty, not going to lie. Not only was it delightful to look at, the portion was generous and it was fabuloso! I made reservations for a group of 4 for Saturday night at 6:30p (the restaurant was too full for current covid restrictions). We received our drinks pretty quickly. Our orders were taken a short time later. We ordered calamari as an appetizer and 4 different entrees. Each of us pointing at what we ordered to ensure we didn't murder the pronunciation. Our appetizer arrived approximately 35 minutes after we ordered it and it was delicious! Our food didn't arrive for nearly another hour. When it arrived one person in our group received the wrong thing, but at that point she didn't want to say anything as it had taken so long for it to come in the first place. The food we had was good, but not nearly as amazing as I'd hoped. Perhaps we didn't order the chef's best dishes. My husband compared the food to Carino's. We were in the restaurant for over two hours and we didn't linger after we finished eating. We took dessert to go and that was really good! I feel bad posting this as everyone else seems to have loved the food and experience. We'd go again as some of the specials look amazing, but this trip was a 3 out of 5 at best. read more
