This trattoria was the absolute best Roman food I've ever had in my entire life. It was recommended to me by the local Yelp community manager (thanks Salvatore!) and I loved lunch so much that I had to come back for my last dinner! For pastas, most definitely get the Rigatoni Carbonara or the Amatriciana. The texture of the guanciale/pancetta is out of this world, with the crispy outside biting away into a juicy interior like a salty and savory candy bar. These were the two best pasta dishes I've had in Rome during my week here! Definitely get a plate of the Roman Vegetables, as they are generously portioned heaps of spinach, broccoli, sweet peppers, eggplant, and tomato/potato mash. Absolutely delicious and flavorful! I would recommend the pork chop main course, as it is cooked to perfection with so much flavor! The meatballs with lemon sauce are decent, but got nothing on the pork chop. Had a pretty bad experience here. I got the amatriciana and it was solid but my fiancé got the carbonara and it came out about 30 minutes after mine and when it did come out they changed the pasta to make it cook quicker and the sauce was horrible. You could see chunks of scrambled eggs and when we asked the waiter about it he said that's how they made it. Two minutes later the two guys sitting one foot away both got carbonara and their sauce looked awesome. They took the carbonara off the check because of the wait but even still they should have remade it after ruining the dish. I had one bite and couldn't hstomach another. read more

Fantastic place hidden in a tiny and narrow street in Trastevere. We wouldn't have found this place if the host in our B&B in Trastevere hadn't recommended it to us. Also, we booked for lunch, as we were advised that otherwise we would have to wait one hour in the best case. I'm glad we did, because this place seems to be always busy. After having tried it, I'm not surprised at all. This small trattoria feels exactly like the kind of place you see in movies or travel documentaries and wonder where such places are. I live in London and I'm used to a different kind of restaurants, more artificial and "pre-made", as if they were pretending to be genuine or autentic. The first impression of the service may not be the best one for English or other European people in general, used to high standards in customer service, you might think that they are rude or something like that. But we are Spanish, so we weren't shocked at all. Our waiter was actually very helpful and nice and the older lady that alocated the tables wasn't really kind but effective and quick. Anyway, all those things don't really matter. The food does. You have to go there and try by yourself. My limited English vocabulary is clearly useless when trying to explain how delicious and amazing the meal was. "Antipasti" (starters) were the best part for me: "carciofi alla giudia", artichoke cooked in the Jewish style, flattened and deep fried, and "melanzane" (eggplant seasoned with a hint of garlic, olive oil and I think balsamic vinegar), sooo good. And the pasta, we shared "rigatoni alla carbonara". Pasta (rigatoni are like large penne, with the same shape but bigger diameter) was cooked perfectly, "al dente", and the carbonara sauce was very tasty (egg, pancetta, black pepper and grated cheese, simple and delicious). And to end the meal, two espressos. We didn't have much room for dessert, so we decided to have gelato elsewhere later. Food was amazing and we definitely should have let Stefano just decide for us, since we wound up with too much pasta BUT having la signora (owner's wife??) talk loudly with her friend at the neighboring table (in my ear) that he should try a little place on the other side of town that was really Roman-for-Romans, without all these tourists in it made the whole thing unpleasant. One of my favorite meals during my two week trip to Italy and France. Don't order the house white wine, we made that mistake but followed up with a delicious Italian white similar to pinot grigio. Apps: calamari, artichokes roman style, fried zucchini flowers--sharing encouraged. Split the ravioli and rigatoni carbonara and loved both! The carbonara is rich but the texture of the bacon is amazing. Mascarpone mousse with fresh strawberries for dessert and we were beyond satisfied. Fantastic place tucked away in a side street. Huge portions with even bigger flavor at very favorable price. We had 3 appetizers (sunflower was great, cod a little much matter), rigatoni carbonara, rigatoni with sausage, meatballs, and a small dessert. One after the other was very impressed beating out other dishes I had previous nights in Rome. All this and .5 L of wine for under €50. Beware: need a reservation. Everything is right about this place. From its location on a picturesque cobbled street in the Trastevere area, to the decor of the restaurant itself, and of course the food. We didn't have reservations (and they were booked) but decided to take a chance, dress up smart and hope that they think us good looking enough to take us in.. they did! We ended up getting an inside table, letting us take in the beautiful ceiling beams and the charming, yet homey decor. Our waiter was the quintessential italian waiter, friendly but not ingratiating, making recommendations as though we were family. The food was spectacular. We were given some rustic bread and warm olive oil to munch on and dip into (the oil was excellent , almost a meaty flavor) . We started with an artichoke appetizer, which were probably the best artichokes I have ever had, so simply prepared, but just spectacular. Since it was our second day we chose the roman classic carbonara, and then feeling adventurous, Gnocchi with squid. Roman (and probably italian) pasta dishes are not drenched in sauce and cheese, are way more 'al dente', and as a result the pasta is more flavorful and has a great mouth feel and chew. Both dishes were excellent and we wiped them clean. Pasta is generally one course on a 4 course meal ( a meat being the third course), but by now we were full and I had polished up a whole bottle of wine (its so much cheaper to get the bottle here than in the US and getting a glass makes no sense). We came here on the recommendation of a local from Trastevere. The owners left da Enzo al 29 and started this new restaurant not long ago. Very small place with no nonsense waiters (but polite). The food was wonderful. Caprese had the best buffalo mozerella, then the fried zucchini flowers, two pastas - the tagliatelle with fresh porcini was out of this world and the rigatoni carbonara was also great. We showed up (2 of us), without a reservation, on the early side, and they fit us right in. Excellent service! The waiter was a ball of energy, made great suggestions, and helped us dial back when we over-ordered. I had fried artichokes, and fried zucchini flowers stuffed with mozzarella and anchovies. I was in Rome for 3 nights with my boyfriend and a large group of his coworkers. This restaurant was a reccomendation from a good tour guide and boy, was it a good one! It had the feel of a homey Italian restaurant and while we waited outside for our table, they brought us out some champagne to enjoy. We were greeted and seated by Tiziana, who I'm pretty sure is the owner. From the moment we sat down, the food kept coming. All kinds of appetizers and fresh bread and the house wine was delicious! They were very accomodating (my bf is gluten intolerant and I have a dairy allergy) so it was super easy to order a yummy meal...and yummy is an understatement! The food was so fresh and delicious! Unprofessional is the best word to describe this restaurant. I called this morning to make a reservation and the person on the other end of the line could not understand me. How do you have someone who only speaks italian answering a phone? Anyways, we wanted to have a great dinner for our last night in Italy and this was one recommended to us. The person didn't understand my name the four times i said it on the phone- including spelling it. They told me to come at 8 for our table of 4- no worries they got us. Okay. We arrived 7:45 and they claimed to not have my reservation. I was being told off by a bitch of an of a woman (mentioned in many reviews here) and a younger female server with dark hair. I know Spanish and while they thought I could not understand them, I could put pieces together. They were basically accusing us of lying to get in and saying they didn't want us dining there (also accurate according to other reviews). Finally a man who speaks ENGLISH comes over and is telling me it's not possible that I made one. I showed him my phone and evidence that I indeed called here and had a long enough phone call to make a reservation and they still would not accommodate us. Extremely rude women, unprofessional owner, and very unorganized. Go to Da Enzo or Roma Sparita. They are polite, communicate well, and serve amazing food. read more

When I was in Rome, I managed to lose my phone on my second to last night in Italy. I assumed the phone was long gone but stopped into Trattoria Da Teo on a whim to see if I had perhaps dropped it outside and someone found it. To my surprise, I was told that someone had found it but he had brought it home because he found it on his way out. They asked if I could come back tomorrow to pick it up, but, unfortunately, that wouldn't work because I had an early flight. They were all very accommodating and worked to figure out a time I could come back to get the phone. Everyone was already being incredibly kind considering I hadn't even been eating there/wasn't buying anything. So, we figured out a time for me to get the phone and I came back in the evening to pick it up. The guy who was going home to get it was running a bit behind so my boyfriend and I were offered a table outside to sit and wait in the lovely garden sitting area. Then, we were kindly given food and drinks (all absolutely delicious and over the top kind) and we chatted with the wait staff to pass the time. When the phone arrived, they all refused any kind of reward money and simply said "Welcome to Rome!". Overall, the food, service, atmosphere and the people were lovely! Would recommend! read more
