There isn't a traditional checkin desk for getting a room--just go inside the charming little room where there are a few tables and the bar and they will help you there. The food, service, and getting to know the owners are worth the effort of finding this hotel and restaurant. Our room was a third floor walk-up, which we didn't mind at all because it was all cobble stones and old world charm every step of the way.) NOTE: The restaurant was open for breakfast and lunch, then closed at 3pm and opened again in the evening at 6pm. I don't know if this is their year-round schedule, so you might want to ask. "If you're a warm and friendly person, you're more likely get the same from others." We ate multiple times at Ristorante Batello while we were in Mercote, and enjoyed it every time. We had wonderful pasta, polenta, and other dishes, and the wine was superb. We also rented a room upstairs which was completely charming and quintessentially old world Italian. The owners, Milan & Radica were warm and welcoming, and very patient with our lack of ability to speak Italian beyond a few phrases :D They spoke a little English and we found a way to understand each other that was sweet and made our visit to Mercote all that more enjoyable. Dragon, who also worked in the restaurant was also welcoming and friendly. If you visit Mercote, we highly recommend stopping by to eat and to stay if you're looking for a place to rest your noggen for the night, or two, or three.

During the day you can sit outside in the mornings or afternoons and share a cup of coffee or nice glass of wine and just enjoy the sun shining over the lake and the peace and tranquility and beauty of Switzerland from this great restaurant. At night the restaurant lights are dimmed low and the dinner is enjoyed by glow of candlelight. It makes for a wonderfully romantic evening. The wine list is pretty extensive and they also have a nice selection of Ticinese wines that you cannot find outside of Switzerland. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and our server was happy to go over the wine list with us and made some excellent recommendations for local wines to try. They have a pretty good extensive menu for food as well, they have everything from pizza to salads to pasta and grilled shrimp and everything is pretty affordable especially for being in Switzerland. One of the best dishes I had was the mushroom risotto it was very very good and full of flavor. It was also nice that you could order the smaller or larger portion size which is always a great option for groups who like to share and try several plates. I highly recommend trying some of their deserts they are all very good as well. They had some deserts on the menu that I've never had anywhere else before and some I've never even heard of so we decided to try them since our server recommended them so highly and said they were some of the restaurants specialties and they were all very unique and very very good. We found this restaurant through Google Reviews and generally had high hopes, but were blown away by the experience. We definitely could have avoided getting the two salads; portions were massive and we ended up not finishing either salad. My main course was delicious. The pasta had a zesty, fresh flavor between the lemon, olive oil, parsley and tomato, but the welcome surprise was seeing mounds of mussels, clams and shrimp inside the dish (I'm from New York and expected maybe 10 total) that took me almost 5 minutes to deshell before I went to town on it. Cocktails were excellent - hard to see from the photos but huge and delicious. Resulted in a great midday buzz. Limoncello spritz was also good but perhaps too strong for a lunchtime drink. We called, booked a reservation, drove to Tabla. Found immediate parking in front of the restaurant. As soon as we entered we were greeted, seated and service began promptly. Ambiance was good. We decided to try the 6 course vegetarian tasting menu and to our surprise the food was delicious!! We did not expect to have such delicious, flavourful food in Lugano. We started with samosa which had a very unique flavour, that set the course for what to expect from the experience. Our favourite was their version of Dosa and the vegan rose kulfi. Least favourite was dahi puri. Everything else tasted... (is sophisticated a word that can be used to describe flavour? Then that would be it) Overall we loved it! Gagan was kind to come and introduce himself and make sure everything went well. If you visit Lugano, definitely give this place a try!
