The setting is lovely, in the old town hall, with a terrace where we sat in the late evening sunshine. The hostess Lili is amazing, really welcoming and conversing in at least 5 languages with customers at nearby tables, her English was faultless. The wine (very important for any trip to Italy!) was really reasonably priced, with a delicious bottle of local white costing just 14 euros. The food is all freshly made, with a ravioli and risotto of the day. While you wait for your food you're given a plate of fresh focaccia, which is a lovely touch. The starters I sampled were a duck liver pate which was lovely and creamy, and a salmon trout carpaccio which tasted like it was fresh out of the water, and beautifully complimented with some fresh tomato. I had the tagliatelle with duck ragot, which was delicious with a lovely light pasta and rich, flavour full duck. Another day I had duck breast (spot the theme, the duck meat was sooo good!) with a raspberry sauce, which I'd never have thought of but was absolutely delicious, the duck cooked to pinky perfection. And the deserts... Lili makes them all by hand, the panna cotta is out of this world good, a definite must try! If you want an authentic slice of Italy, this is the place to go, you won't regret it

The restaurant was mostly empty when we arrived at around 9 pm, and there was no host at the front. We waited for a few minutes before a waiter came by to ask if we had a reservation (che?!) before taking us to one of the many empty tables. I did like the vibe of the space - lots of open windows with interesting views and the bar at the center of the room was modern, sleek and vibrant. Our little table was to the side of the room, against windows and poorly lit with a small candle, but it worked for the feel of the space. Because it was so late, and we were so tired, and we had to wake up so early the next day, we chose to pace ourselves and only order a glass of wine each, instead of our "usual" bottle to share. We each got a glass of red to sip while we munched on the basket of bread and reviewed the small-ish menu. It didn't take us long to decide on the Rigatoni all'Amatriciana con Guanciale Croccante (rigatoni with Amatriciana sauce, €21). Last day in Italy and all that. The piping hot food came out fairly quickly, which we definitely appreciated. The sauce was good, with a slightly floral undertone that took me by surprise. Maybe it was the tomatoes? The guanciale was crispy and cut into large pieces, but did sometimes resemble "bacon" more than "guanciale", though that could just be my bias coming through. It was a good dish for our final night in Italy, and much better than we had expected going in. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, and made sure to keep an eye on us as we were making our way through the meal. He made it possible for us to get in and out at a decent pace, so we weren't hanging around too long at the table. Again, much needed after the day we had. It's a good option for those staying inside the hotel, or those not looking to go too deep into the airport for other options. I'm glad it was available to us.

It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's all the better inside. The decoration is neatly selected, incredibly spacious and most of all warm and welcoming. There is usually relaxed dinner music playing, light jazz and sometimes blues, acoustic or chilled R&B/Latin/Mediterranean. The mixture of wooden and plastic chairs needs some getting used to but it is somewhat funny. Lots of fine wines, pieces of art, one or two family pictures and wavy cloth on the ceiling round up the decoration. The tables are far enough apart, the bar/preparation area is right in the center of the room which gives nice access to the staff. While we're talking about the staff. 100 points out of 100. They give great recommendations, have good ideas if you're not sure, speak fluent English (and probably some German), are never intrusive and extremely friendly. They also know how to serve a good drink and to never clear the table while one person is still eating! They're amazing. Some of this probably has to do with the fact that this place speacialises in wines. I can't say much about that, I'm not a connoisseur. The wine card ranges from 12 to 80€, more is available upon request. Myself... I like the house wine for 10€/ltr very much :D Sorry to all Italians for my disgrace Let's talk food. In total my companion and I have now spent two weeks at the Lago Maggiore and we made it our task to eat at least one pizza per day. While we do not agree about second or third place there is NO discussion: This place has the best pizza at Lago Maggiore. By far that is! This is complemented by a choice of varying home-made deserts which are simply stunning. The staff will recommend a sweeter wine or rosee suiting to your choice. I was so happy. One time they even made the desert wine a gift from the house simply to surprise us when we didn't order one. All this comes at a price that I think is almost shamefully low. For two people, half a litre of wine, two pizzas, two deserts + desert wine and "coperta" you can expect to pay 30€ or less (29 excluding tip for me last time). This is crazy but maybe owed to the remoteness of the restaurant. I violently urge you to visit this restaurant. It is well worth the drive from Stresa or Arona. Parking spaces are limited in the back area but plentiful out on the street. On workdays there are maybe 6-8 of the 10-15 tables occupied. We didn't make a reservation beforehand but it's probably not the worst idea in high season
