Travel insurance was purchased for a trip to Europe for May 2020. Trips were canceled due to Covid. I was given a date of 12/31/2023 to rebook this trip. The airline and travel agency gave us the same date, stating that we had to rebook by 12/31/2023 for a trip that could be taken in 2024. We have rebooked our trip for May 2024 with no problem except for TravelSafe. They state that the trip must be taken by 12/31/2023 and will keep the $635.00 that we paid for the insurance even though they provided no service and will not even give a partial refund. They didn't offer any compromise but told us that we could purchase a new policy with them for our trip in 2024. You have got to be kidding me!! I wish I had seen all of the bad reviews about this unscrupulous agency prior to contracting with them. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY. read more

I just had a similar experience with TravelSafe. COVID 19 cancelled a planned trip for my wife, a granddaughter and me, May 2020. Our Travel Safe plan had cancellation coverage. Germany closed it's border to non-EU citizens. American Airlines cancelled our flights. We lost one pre-paid hotel and one hotel deposit. Our claim was only $680. We filed our claim online. When the claim was denied, TS's website wouldn't link our name and insurance certificate number together. They were very difficult to reach by phone. On one occasion, we even got routed off to one of their subsidiaries, TripMate, and had the pleasure of speaking with Attilla the Hun, the most rude customer service employee I have EVER encountered. On a small positive note, Ashley at TS was actually nice on the phone, but unbending as to any refund, even just the amount we spent to buy the policy. So, I am even hesitant to use the Insure My Trip clearing house for future trips. Our auto/home policy company recently advertised trip insurance, we've been with them 48 years, we'll use them the next time. My advice, stay away from TravelSafe or buy CFAR! read more

Never again. My trip is still a year away and I wish I would have found a better company. I called with questions about my policy and the person I talked to didn't give me any straight answers. They didn't ask for my name, policy number or even bother to ask what I wanted to do. I never knew it was so hard to give a company more money. Please go with another company. This is a travel insurance company which should be put out of business! Had a small claim and they kept asking for more and more information in order to settle the it. After sending them multiple documents they still wanted more. Paid a lot of money for this insurance and will NEVER use them again. The total claim was about $130 and one would think that I was asking for $10,000! They didn't attempt to reach me for some of the additional information that they wanted. If I had not called them to check on the status of the claim I would not have ever been asked for anything else in order to settle the claim. Unequivocally, the worst insurance out there. I have tried for over two months, unsuccessfully to receive the 75% of the total cost of my purchased trip back, based on the insurance plan I purchased. I have provided (two times) ALL of the information they have requested from me but continue to receive excuses by different representatives as to why the claim has taken so long to process. On their website it says it can take up to "30 days" but as they told me, "usually 14 business days". However today, marks 60 days since I filed the claim and ultimately none of what I was told has been the truth, nor resulted in what they promised on their site. I will never purchase insurance through this agency again and I highly recommend anyone considering doing so to exercise caution and explore all other possibilities. read more

do not buy insurance for travel from these guys. if you need to get money back, you have to jump on a chair and shout to get the insurance to work. They are frauds and will hide behind pages of fine print that will surely give them a reason to deny your claim should you ever need to cancel a trip they have insured. read more

This is a sad excuse for travel insurance please save your money you are safer traveling without insurance than buying this GARBAGE! I purchased a cruise for me and my husband. As it was a specialty cruise it had limited space available so they allowed for a $200 deposit to hold my spot on the ship back in March 2013 and rooms went on sale in April 2013. I wanted to ensure a good room so I put down a deposit. When the room because available, I purchased my room and also this travel insurance through the tour operator as the tour operator strongly encouraged insurance as they have a strict cancelation policy. Of course, I never thought I would cancel as I have dreamed about going on this cruise with my husband for years but sadly a family member became very ill and could no longer watch our children. I had purchased a "cancel for ANY reason" policy but even with this they required a TON of paperwork and over 2 months later after several calls and talking to rude customer service agents they finally told me their verdict... I was DENIED any refund as they pointed to the fine print... I made that $200 deposit before purchasing the insurance so the policy was VOID! By the way my deposit I made was 100% refundable and was just a hold on a cruise before the dates of the cruise became available. All it did was hold my spot and the travel insurance was not available to purchase when I put the deposit. Wow!! Wish they would have told me that before I spent over $200 on bogus insurance that did nothing more but increase my losses... I am speechless about the time I wasted following up, money wasted in this garbage policy, and I am beyond furious!!! I reached out to the tour operator who sold me the cruise as well as the insurance and the dir of ops said she would look into it.. She has went over this time and time again with this company and has explained to them in the past that the refundable deposit should not be considered the purchase date of the cruise ... She is my only hope to get my money back or else I can try to talk to my credit card company and hope they take pity on my situation... So much for peace of mind... I never want to deal with this company ever again... Purchasing this insurance has compounded my losses by spending extra $$$ on the policy, wasted time , and had made me angry beyond belief. Terrible terrible experience with this insurance. I had bought the most expensive and comprehensive travel insurance plan (about $580) with TravelSafe for a 2 week trip to Sri Lanka. This included cancellation for any reason as well as medical including pre-existing conditions. Just about a week before departure, I had to cancel because my mother got suddenly and acutely sick with viral pneumonia and subsequently died. Trip Mate manages TravelSafe claims. They decided not to reimburse me because their definition of family members excludes anyone not residing in the US, canada or mexico. My mother was in Italy. I am a US resident and citizen. I could not believe their "redefinition" of first degree blood relatives. According to their policy my mother was not my mother and her death somehow should not have affected me. It seems beyond absurd and I cannot believe it is not unethical to redefine family memberships. In addition, it seems to me that their exclusion targets unfavorably immigrants to the US who most typically have families abroad. How is this discrimination not unethical? I also do not understand why I was not covered due to my own illness - I contracted the viral pneumonia myself and was acutely sick myself with it. I am a middle aged woman and was in no condition to travel. Plus I was highly contagious at the time. Did they really want me on a plane? In addition I also became very distressed once my mother's health became critical. Why is my own physical illness not covered? What does medical coverage and cancellation for any reason mean? I am appealing their decision. I have medical certificates and all the bells and whistles to support my claim. I am sickened beyond belief by this situation. It is not just about the money (which was a very significant amount) but mostly about the aberrant nature of the situation. I cannot accept that my ties to my blood mother can be so totally disregarded and that these companies can get away with robbing people who are sick or otherwise incapacitated to travel. What did I buy the insurance for? It seems to cover nothing in the end. read more
