This is a brand spanking new Travelodge, so it all very tidy. Not fully worn in. The hotel is located at the edge of a leisure park, with a Vue cinema, Subway, Nandos and Frankie and Benny's. Its all fairly quiet and pleasant read more

Nant Ddu Lodge Hotel

I was recently en route for a walk in the Brecon Beacons when we called in at the Nant Ddu Lodge…read more Situated on the road between Merthyr Tydfil and Brecon it is classed as a hotel, bistro and spa. Despite this rather posh description, Nant Ddu is very informal, and as we sat in the cosy bar area, we were made to feel very welcome! They had a wide range of options to choose from on the menu, at reasonable prices. I had the roasted cherry tomato and goat's cheese tartlet, which was only £4.95 (that's cheaper than many starters I've had at other restaurants)! Despite this low price I can honestly say that the tartlet was most delicious there really was the right balance between pastry and cheese. Another thing I appreciated about this establishment, is that all the food is locally sourced and prepared on site; with fresh meat coming in daily from Brecon and fresh fish from Cardiff. After lunch I had a quick peep at the spa area, which with it's pool and jacuzzi looked the perfect spot to chill out!

Brunswick Hotel

Now, an all you can eat Chinese buffet for prices around the stupid mark like £5 a head, this is an all you can eat oasis. As i've said prices are scandalously reasonable and food is nice and fresh and the choices are pretty good. A few not overly authentic but i suppose in this day and age you have to cater for everyone and at £5 a head, who really cares what your getting? A little out the way of Merthyr High Street the Brunswick is neatly tucked into aside street and if your not careful you will miss it. Although, i recommend you look out for their Ford Focus delivery car that has THE BRUNSWICK written appropriately up the side and follow it. Its always cruising about town! So all in all a nice place with nice food and nice prices. What are you waiting for?

The floor along the corridor creaks like a haunted house and I'm on the ground floor. Water pressure for the shower is rubbish. However all the independent hotels in Merthyr are shockingly bad so Premier here we are. I'm sat right now in the attached pub which even for a quick pint before going out is only just bearable. Its dirty with badly trained staff who are serving lousy beer. I'm no snob at all but this is terrible.
