A little old school but I can respect it. We came in and filled the last table-the place was already so lively at 6:30 on a Sunday (Mother's Day). They have English menus and were (of course) offering an asparagus specialty menu. We went with a couple beers, a shandy, a Schnitzel, mixed fish plate and the whole fish. Everything was so delicious and we could see the singular chef working and the singular woman wait all the tables. The only thing was that the shandy was actually made on site, with sprite and beer from tap. It was an interesting flavor. Would recommend this to anyone to get Hamburg classics!

The walls are safe, but look like they are about to fall over and are at a significant angle. The floors also are at an angle and depending on where you're sitting you'll find yourself leaning against gravity. You can even put an empty bottle on the table and watch it roll. The food is traditional northern German, with a slightly artistic flair. It was tasty and full of flavor with hearty portions. The burger was recommended by the waiter and was one of the more unique hamburgers that I've tried. It is a very small venue, with ample room outside for seating during summer.

She then said with an attitude, well we have this program in set when someone takes an order. She then just shrugged off and said well then you should of ordered it with you main Course meal. My guest didn't want to start a big argument so he stopped arguing. She finally left not solving the problem nor showing any sympathy. So service isn't very good. But we only had her so I don't know if the others are the same way, so if you go there just hope you won't get her. Overall it's good. Personally I found the Labskaus pretty good, kind of like a corned beef hash and didn't have it anywhere else in Hamburg but I did have Bremer Labskaus a few days later from a street stand behind St Peters church that I think was both better and half the price. The restaurant was pretty empty and service was good. I was reminded service wasn't included when I paid which I guess is a reminder in Germany to tip.

This is where you go to eat some hardcore German food. And by hardcore, I mean huge, heavy portions…read morethat will leave you feeling completely stuffed. The interior of the Old Commercial Room feels like the inside of an old ship, with dark wood paneling, dim old-fashioned lighting, and dark wooden tables and booths. There are photos throughout the restaurant that show off famous people who have dined here before, as well as a sheet of paper where you can see which tables they sat at, which is kind of neat! Their signature dish is labskaus, which was described to me as "a mashup of all the leftovers on a ship." Essentially it features salted meat mashed together with potatoes and onion, served with pickles, fried eggs, and optionally a salted herring (extra charge). Apparently this is a dish that Hamburg is known for. And in fact, it's quite a decent dish, though very much on the heavy side. I wouldn't recommend the side of herring, which is very intensely flavored, unless you're really into salted fish. Oh and the best part: If you finish the dish, you even get a certificate - a "labskaus diploma"! Aside from labskaus, the other dishes are also quite hefty. Also available on the menu was a gigantic schnitzel and a gigantic fried fish -- I guess everything here comes in super sized portions. Prices are higher than typical in Hamburg, but the portions are so large (did I mention that already?) that I suppose it works out. It's all quite tasty, though difficult to finish your heaping plate of food, so don't eat too much before you get here!

This is a barge with an outside deck seating option. They accommodated our group and had a great corner table. Great drinks menu. Tried the local gin. Nice bite. Enjoyed. The cold soups are delightful. VERY good. So are the potato and the cucumber salads. And I got to play with my cucumber soup. Which is always fun The main courses varied in consistency. The Caesar salad was ok. The Wiener schnitzel was so so. The beef tartare was superb. The view was THE main attraction. The service.... S L O O O O W. At the end, we gave up on trying to get coffee and deserts.

I had the Lübecker fish soup, a cream soup made with smoked fish. It was savory and delicious, but be forewarned that it is quite a small portion in an appetizer-sized cup for 8 euros. It did come with bread on the side, and was fine for a light dinner. The main guild hall where I sat is extremely atmospheric, and the other rooms I saw were also attractive. Service was efficient and friendly.
