Breakfast is delicious! We're staying at the Ramada in Marquette, Michigan and went out looking for fresh coffee and GF Vegan options. We found Trenary Home Bakery approximately 8 minutes walk. Everyone serving is very friendly and helpful. Servers kept coming to table asking if we needed more coffee. Place is clean. I got the Bacon Jalapeño Melt on sourdough, my grandson got the Blackberry & Brie on sourdough. My coffee was a little bit weak, my grandson got the Spiced pear matcha coconut milk. One of the staff, Bri, offered to give me another cup of coffee which was super nice but I had already finished with breakfast... and satisfied. She offered on the house cup when I return. There's a lot of other options that I would love to try, so if I'm in the area again I would definitely come back here. read more

I ordered their vegan melt and my husband ordered one of their breakfast sandwiches, the Harlow Lake Sunrise Sammy made vegan. They say they have food for all diets, but that doesn't mean it's good. My melt was...weird. It was vegan cheddar cheese, vegan mayo, vegan cream cheese, vegan bacon, tomato, and diced jalapeno. It was visually unappealing and it was too goopy. The assortment of cheeses and condiments did not make sense, and the diced jalapenos don't make sense on a sandwich. The unmodified breakfast sandwich has red pepper hummus, fried egg, feta, cucumber, tomato, and spring mix. On the menu, it says it can be vegan for $1.50. His sandwich came out with hummus, cucumber, tomato, and spring mix with a slice of vegan cheddar. There was no replacement for the egg and the feta was replaced with cheddar. Why did we pay extra to have less? Also, the hashbrown that came with the sandwich was soggy and it tasted like fish. read more

The place: Trenary Toast Cafe is a long place with bar style seats lining the windows that look out onto the sidewalk and a bench seat along the outer wall that's one half of the table seating. Order at the counter where the menu is clear and pretty extensive! There's also a shop near the back so you can stock up on merch or Trenary Toast to bring home. The location: The cafe is on the corner in what I always consider "downtown Marquette." It's kitty corner from where the farmers market is held over the summer. Most of the street parking is easily accessible but timed or paid parking. The food/drink: The winter seasonal drinks included a vanilla peppermint matcha that I got iced with oat milk, and it confirmed my suspicion that I love my matcha iced. A light drink that was beautiful as well as delicious. Vanilla and peppermint are an intuitive pairing for matcha. The menu looks like it has generous vegan and vegetarian options (refreshing from a place that serves lighter fare like sandwiches!). I got the blackberry and Brie smørrbrød which was a beautiful mix of sweet and savory. My partner got the lovely lox which was indeed lovely. The service: Delightful. We ordered at the counter and the human who rung us up was efficient and kind. We weren't sure if there was a bus tray so we ran away before anyone could see us leave our dishes on the table. Next time: I'm going to get a proper sandwich. There were a couple vegetarian sandwiches I'll have a hard time picking between. read more

The avocado toast is a little underwhelming, doesn't appear to be fresh mashed avocado but a premade avocado spread. The cinnamon French toast was really good. A little too sweet for my tastes though, and much smaller than I expected. We also ordered the cinnamon roll breakfast sammy, but apparently they were out of cinnamon rolls (10am on a Wednesday morning) and instead used plain bread -- not sure why they didn't use the cinnamon bread... gave me a coupon for a free cinnamon roll, which was nice but I was only passing through Marquette. Apparently they have no way to contact you if they are out of something when you do an online order, so be mindful. There's a few tables and chairs out front that were cute. Inside seemed boring but didn't really stick around. Staff were nice, the girl did seem very sorry about the situation. All around, $30 for two small meals seemed incredibly steep. read more

I came in hoping for a calm morning to read and get some work done, but the experience was anything but peaceful. The staff were loudly shouting about personal issues behind the counter, completely disregarding the atmosphere. It was distracting, unprofessional, and made it impossible to concentrate. Definitely not the place to go if you're looking for a relaxing environment. As the only customer there, I was surprised that no one checked in on me or even said goodbye when I left. This place has served me the absolute best cinnamon roll I have ever had. So what did I do? I went back raving mad and ordered three more (mind you these are not cheap cinnamon rolls). I was so excited to get home and make a sticky mess of myself. To my chagrin, these were NOT the same cinnamon rolls. These were quite possibly the worst cinnamon rolls I have ever had. They were dry, and lacked the ooey gooey good stuff. I haven't been back since because I am absolutely perplexed at the situation. There is a cute shop as well with coffee bags, bread, jams, jellies, and some souvenirs. Vegan / veggie BLT: 4.5/5 stars. Could've had a bit more ingredients, but i wasn't complaining much with the salad it came with. Tasted great otherwise, loved the vegan bacon. Side salad: 5/5. Dressing, croutons, avocado, etc and ingredients were awesome. Smorrebord: 3/5. Just too fatty with the combination of dressing or sauce (dairy-based?) and cheeses, but liked that there were also veggies. Tomato soup: 3/5. It was not memorable, but tasted fine. LOVED this place! It was our first breakfast stop on a recent UP trip, and it really set the bar high. Haven't really found any I was happier with than this place, so I probably should've saved myself some hassle and just returned here. Something with hindsight and 20/20 - sigh. My husband actually really wanted to go here, the neon sign promising Fresh Cinnamon Rolls caught his attention driving through downtown the evening prior. If I'm honest- I did not really care for the cinnamon roll. It was a little on the dry end and I think I've spent so much time in the US now that I prefer mine fluffy, warm and with enamel shattering icing. At least for a bite or two and then I'm done. Realizing that this is a European (inspired) place, the cinnamon roll made sense. If you know, you know. Not bad, just different. On to merrier things: this rye bread is the BEST bread I've had anywhere since leaving EU almost 14 years ago. So so happy with that. I had the toast with a hard boiled egg.. there was cream cheese, habanero jelly, a hardboiled egg and fresh dill. Loved it! The avocado toast was also very good and so was the cinnamon french toast. The coffee drinks were good - although for logistical purposes I think they'd do well investing im a two group espresso machine. I don't mind waiting, but I can see it taking quite a bit on an actual busy morning. Overall I wish I had gone back.. either to order the same thing all over again, although that squeaky cheese.. vegetarian BLT.. and grilled cheese all sounded amazing. A must visit spot in downtown Marquette. Excellent coffee, cinnamon rolls and the very unique Trenary Toast is a must try. I understand they've been in business baking, not here, since 1928. I've been buying their toast for many years at the grocery. It was cool to visit this new cafe that updates the tradition. It was exactly what we expected. Stop in for some comfort food. Pricey but getting used to it in these times although the city's parking cost is annoying especially since payment was required on Memorial Day. The food was good and with an hour remaining before closing they put on a fresh pot of decaf without complaint or effort to avoid doing it. If you want to enjoy a meal then go at a time when customer traffic is light and you can get a window bar seat. The windowless area is depressing and there is no cheerful or pleasant decor. It's almost a warehouse environment. One thing that is problematic is that there are two doors that have to be used to get to the restroom. When you exit you have to grab the handles and pull them toward you. Only option to avoid recontamination is to use the toweling that you had in hand to dry your washed hands. The two sandwiches ordered were the VBLT (vegan bacon) on GF bread (pricey $3 extra) and processed deli Turkey and cheese on rye. Would we go again for a cinnamon roll (none remaining after noon time when we were there) or a mid-afternoon lunch? Yes. read more

My boyfriend ordered a chai tea latte and he was not a fan. When he received the drink, it was not even lukewarm. He decided to ask the staff if they could heat it up for him and they ended up remaking the drink for him, which was very accommodating and sweet! The overall taste and flavor was not what he was expecting though. He felt the drink was bland.
