Theses days, there is an ADA compliant addition including an elevator inside to all floors and one entrance with a ramp. I enjoyed the self-tour of the original historic section and they offer a full guided tour monthly (inquire at the front desk). I also utilized their home office supplies table (stapler, scissors, pencil sharpener, etc.) and their copy machine. There was plenty of parking during our visit on Friday afternoon in August.

I haven't used the computers, but there are people here and there using them - so must be useful for some, and if you're looking to use it, you likely won't have to wait. I saw my first movie at the library on a Saturday afternoon more than 30 years ago there. The books in its stacks cultivated my interest in reading. To this day, the place always feels like home. They have a decent number of computers for patrons and their staff is simply top-notched. They also have a regular series of special events - movie screenings, classes and so on. They have a movie section, but it is not in any real kind of order & then they are facing forward instead of with the spine facing you so that you can easily flip through. The staff doesn't seem to be helpful what so ever. The tone from the women is with an attitude, as if they are ready to retire or have had a bad day everyday. Overall it's an ok branch if you live in the area, but not a place to make special trips for unless you have reserved a book you can't find anywhere else. NOTE: Parking is across the street in a lot that is not patrolled. And if you park on the side street make sure you are 4 spaces back from the corner to avoid a $30 ticket.

Downstairs basement for youth is somewhat small, but has some play stuff for toddlers, teen computer center, and a nice section of comics / graphic novels. Great place to see all the community postings and events going on around town. Outside, a nice fountain and some benches on the side where they'll hold events. Their "Country in the City" event hosted an entire petting zoo there, with caramel apples and pony rides out back - the kind of creative, unusual stuff I love about Ypsi!

Finally we found a single spot in the mini parking lot…read more Gee i think there are maybe enough parking spots for only employees. :/ Anyhow, the place is side is jammed packed but nice space. Service was very good. Minimal computers to use (maybe 5?) and all were full with patrons. A nice space to sit around a round fireplace, which would be great in the winter, and a castle type space for the kiddies with lots of book character stuffies well out of reach of dirty hands.

The Ellis Library and Reference Center is a cut above the rest.  They have a healthy reserve of…read morebooks.  The place is kept neat, clean and orderly, which is very important for any library.  The library staff is professional and polite.  They know their work and go about it in a reassuring fashion.  I appreciate the lighting in this library.  It is clear and light even when overcast, which it was when I visited. There is some limited seating outside.  The building itself is attractive and modern looking.  At the same time it has classic styling which hints at Frank Lloyd Wright.  Either there is some influence there or he had his hand in it. The parking lot is kept clear even during inclement weather, and, this being Michigan, we get our fair share of that.
