He was really good at directing us (which we were both concerned about, because neither of us knew what to do in front of the camera), and it was just a fun, awesome experience, and gave us 100% confidence in Matthew for our wedding. For our wedding itself, which was in July, Matthew once again completely knocked it out of the park. He was simultaneously everywhere AND not at all distracting. The photos he took really told the story of that day, which is exactly what I wanted. He never missed a beat, and captured some of the sweetest and funniest moments throughout the wedding and reception. When we emailed Carl and several other photographers, Carl's prices were competitive with other photographers in the area, but slightly higher than some of the less experienced ones. Wanting to keep our wedding to a modest budget, it took some convincing from my better half to agree to spend the money on Carl. I could not be happier with our decision to hire Carl as our wedding photographer, and recommend him unequivocally to anyone looking for a photojournalistic-style wedding photographer. Make no mistake, Carl is a professional, and he takes his work seriously -- and in turn he took our wedding seriously. Yet he complements this professionalism with an engaging personality and dry humor that made us enjoy all of our interactions with him. Prior to hiring him to shoot our wedding in Longmont, CO, we met with him (over Skype since we live in Seattle) to talk about how the ceremony and reception would work, and what we wanted from a photographer. He made it clear that he had a particular photographic style, where he would try to stay "out of the way" as much as possible. While he was willing to take a limited number of staged photographs, his goal was to spend the vast majority of time taking candid photographs of people's experiences during the wedding -- this was exactly what we wanted. He offered us some optional yet helpful advice for things we could do during the ceremony and reception that would improve both the photos and guests' experiences at the wedding. He also asked us about people he should focus on, had us send him a seating chart so he could know where people were, etc. I think in one of our pre-wedding meetings, Carl said something along the lines of, "At your wedding, if you don't notice that I'm there, then I've done my job." Aside from the few formal family/bridal party/newlywed photos Carl organized immediately following the ceremony, on the rare occasion I did notice Carl he was slinking around in the background of the action (dancing, people talking, cake cutting, etc.) staying out of the way somewhere. To be honest, I wondered how he could have gotten good photographs. The photographs turned out amazing. When our pictures arrived a couple weeks after our wedding, and we were blown away at how he managed to capture both obvious and subtle important moments at our wedding. With all the events of the day flying by so quickly, some moments I had already forgotten that I had -- laughing with my groomsmen, waiting to start the ceremony with my mother, father, and sister -- came to life through his work. And many parts of the wedding I couldn't see on the big day -- my future wife getting ready, my aunts and uncles joking around -- I got to experience through his work. Six months after our wedding, we still get comments from friends and family about how much they like our photos. There are a number of photos in the album that, each time I see them, I still find myself saying "wow, that really captures *us*", referring to how it reveals the personalities of my wife and I, as well as how we feel about one another. I couldn't ask for anything more from our wedding photos.

Jody Zorn is the primary photograph and Zach Zorn (or PZ as we called him, for "photo Zach" since my husband is Zach, too...) shoots some photos and also does a lot to help set photos up and make sure everyone looks great. Craft- Josh/Hanna have a great talent for composition. They can put together any style of photography that you like whether it's more artsy (ex. closeup of your dress) or candid (ex. catching someone's laughter, moment of deep emotion). He also offers great ideas on how to make your wedding album unique by providing different ideas on types of shots (ex. we had an eclectic Tim Burton/ Native American wedding in a clocktower and he asked if he could take a few shots of us looking out at fireworks at the tippy top of the bell tower which involved climbing and their NINJA catlike skills to get the shots-AWESOME!) 2. Professionalism- Josh/Hanna are organized and an def experts on what it takes to promote a smooth, happy wedding. They helped to organize the wedding plan by offering helpful tips for your planning and asking great questions (ex. They met with us before for cocktails and got the low down and list of formal shots wanted ahead of time to save time/stress on the big day). 3. Personal attention- from e-mailing them late at night with questions to him helping me with the summer heat by running to grab water at the last minute. I bought a basic class (2 hours, but it went a little over) though a daily deal site. The day I took the class it was just me and one other person. We met in lodo in front of a coffee shop, David went over the basics of photography and then we took a few practice shots. I had recently upgraded some equipment on my DSLR and decided I needed to get out of "auto" mode on my camera. This was a great class for that. The pros:David was friendly, happy to answer questions, and the class was useful. Also, he gives you his opinion on camera gear and the best way to get by on the cheap. Many other classes I looked at we offered through camera shops and I'm sure there would be a bigger push to buy equipment at those classes. The cons: The class is darn basic, if you have photography experience this probably isn't the class for you. Then again, it's only 2 hours so what were you expecting. Also, at the daily deal price I thought it was totally worth it. At the normal price ($135) it might be a little steep. Summary: Great intro if you recently purchased your first DSLR and reading the manual just isn't good enough...but maybe wait a little while and see if you can find an online deal.
