I was charged for this repair and then referred to another repair company to have the plaster/dry wall repaired. Fast forward to last night. The leak starts again in the exact same 1st floor location, as you can see if the photos. I call and today, a young man comes out to assess - he acknowledges he knows nothing about repairs, doesn't work on them, has to ask questions and talk to his boss. He asked questions about the roof - when clearly there are no leaks on the 2nd floor - walks around asking other irrelevant questions, calls his boss, and comes back in to tell me it's the mortar this time. Excuse me? Basically, it's JIT"s way of saying I am responsible for paying for the repair they didn't adequately fix the first time around. IN fact, this guy, Ben, tells me that the guy who did the repair last year was NOT actually a repairman! How was I to know that?? I trusted what I was told and paid what I was charged. Apparently that's no longer enough. To now be told that I am responsible for something they didn't fix the first time around is inane and insane. And to make matters worse, when I call to talk to the owner, he's unavailable to talk. I am furious. I have a leak that will start up again with the next rain, an owner who isn't available to his customers, and a business that won't stand behind their repair work. Steve identified the source of the leak and stuck around that day to work with the insurance adjuster, making sure the claim work up was comprehensive. In the end, Steve proposed an economical remedy to our leak that was below our insurance deductible and below a competitor's quote for the same work. It was easy to work with Steve. In our discussion with Steven, prior to them coming onsite, he indicated that the entire job would be completed within one day, not like my neighbor's house where it took them two full days and cleanup on the third. They arrived at approximately 7:15 AM and took particularly diligent care to remove furniture from our porch, cover our gazebo and Hot Tub, and proceeded to strip off our 14-year-old original roofing, tarpaper, and old vents. This was accomplished within the first three hours. Next, they laid the new tar paper, water shield, new Solar Attic Fans, and all new drip edge. While they were finishing laying all the new very high-quality 25-Year roofing shingles part of their team was back on the ground cleaning up all the debris, magnetically getting all the old nails out of the yard. By 2:00 PM they were 100% finished, put all our furniture back on our porch and were on their way. Mr. Batty was constantly checking on his crew and by 3:30 PM that very same day he took the final pictures using his drone plus walking on the roof and from the yard. First, Tomas was very quick to reply to my request for a quote and then answer any questions I had. He came out within a couple of days to look and was very thorough. We asked for a price for the leak repair and a new roof. He was very reasonable with price for both and so we went with him. He came out to check the color and explained what he was going to do. Then after less than 2 weeks came out with a large crew and finished in 2 days which is great for our size roof. It looks great! Pics below he took from up top. If I had to say one thing - they could have cleaned up a little better. My husband found a lot of nails and trash in the back and side yards which isn't great for the toddler and dog. The only hiccup was that the system suddenly stopped working a week or so later. Mehdi showed up the same day and completed the quick fix (a loose fuse).

Oh my goodness. Another low score for a local company…read more... Aughh. Where to begin? My sweetheart, the right Reverend Robin R., called around to find a contractor that would deliver enough rock to line our culvert (for a reasonable price). She did *not* go with the lowest bidder. (She's WAY too environmentally sensitive to do that). She went with the company that would leave the smallest carbon footprint, Mellott Contractors of Carrboro, NC. So what if it would cost $20 more than the lowest bidder? The environment is important, and we should all be good stewards... right? She spoke with Chris. Together, they came to the determination that we'd need "Class B" rip-rap: rock which is roughly 5-12 inches in diameter. She told him we'd need enough rock to cover 600 square feet in the culvert alongside our yard. Please remember that number, 600 square feet. When the day came, Robin was ready. She'd hired a crew of three men to spread the six tons of rock over the 600 square feet of culvert. I love her attention to detail. The problem is, the amount of rock delivered wasn't even CLOSE to what we needed. She protested. They contested. I demur. After spreading the rock across our ditch, Robin and the crew realized there wasn't nearly enough rock. Ever the problem solver, Robin had the workers cannibalize enough rock from other sites around our yard to make up some (and I stress, SOME, of the deficit.) They complied. We paid. And the job was left undone, really. (At least, according to what we'd wanted.) After I got home to a clearly unhappy Robin, we went out and remeasured. (I am, after all, a middle school science teacher, who is always chiding his students about the importance of measuring carefully.) The ditch that we wanted to cover was, in fact, only 525 square feet, not 600. So there should have been a fair amount left over... not the other way around. So what happened? Why was our rock delivery off by a whopping 15%? (If you compare the square footage we needed with what we asked for - 525 vs. 600, which turned out to be not nearly enough, we came out with an 'underage' of 15%) Robin called Chris, who assured her that their scales were checked WEEKLY by the state. That being said, why the discrepancy? Haven't the fine folks at Mellott been in business long enough to understand how much Class B rip-rap is needed to cover 600 square feet? Shouldn't they be the experts we homeowners defer to? Apparently not. Chris didn't want to haggle or discuss the reasons for our obvious shortcomings as mere customers. Let me be clear - another vendor had also stated that six tons would be plenty to cover that area as desired - so again, what happened? Did we REALLY get the six tons we paid for? Chris told Robin he would sell us more rock, plus delivery charges, but would "withhold" the "fuel adjustment cost." REALLY?!? He would not inflate the cost beyond the normal price gouging? Personally, I'm appalled. Robin really wanted the yard done, and opted to go with ordering another two tons. It has since been delivered, and Robin (bless her heart) managed to put it all in place by herself - without having to rehire the muscle to heave it into place. (Her arms are getting really buff!) The bottom line is, instead of an extra $20 to assuage our environmental conscience, we're out an extra $200, AND this job caused twice as much truck exhaust to be spewed into the atmosphere as should have been. Personally, I'm not pleased. What would you do?

The technician told me that it seemed to work out well on Monday because we already had the appointment for Tuesday. Amber, the scheduler, called and left a message for me Monday, right as the plumber left, to call to schedule completion of work, which -- given that we had confirmed Tuesday already -- I assumed was for the second bathroom in our house that was having trouble. I didn't get a chance to call her on Monday, because my entire day was messed up by the plumber coming on the wrong day, which the owner said again he was sorry that happened but computers make mistakes, continuing to blame the computer instead of accepting any responsibility for doing anything wrong. Tuesday morning came and went. No one showed. I called today and was told by Amber they couldn't come out until Friday now (as we've had two tubs and two toilets clogged for our family of seven). I scheduled that because I knew it would be unlikely to have anyone else out before then because I would be starting fresh with a new plumber instead of simply trying to get work completed that had been scheduled for Tuesday. She said they couldn't come Tuesday because I didn't have a clear path to the bathroom for their equipment to pass through, and I explained (again) that I didn't have that clear on Monday because they weren't supposed to come on Monday but that the plumber said Tuesday would be fine as long as the path was clear, which I assured him it would be. The owner insists all conversations were recorded, as a threat that I would be "legally responsible for anything I said" if I wrote a negative review. I hope they are recorded, because they support my record of events. He also said that because I was going to post an honest review about my experiences, he was canceling the already scheduled Friday appointment. (He did offer to refer to me to a few other places, which I declined because I don't want to work with anyone he would recommend after the poor service from him. But this indicates that he felt comfortable enough to refer me elsewhere, as he wasn't comfortable working with me but felt fine connecting me with colleagues.) I asked, "so you're refusing to complete my service?" And he said yes because of all the "he said, she said" dismissing that everything I claimed was on record. I began to cry, and he laughed. I have no doubt I would have been treated with more respect by the owner if I were a man, but my husband has been dead almost two years so having him call wasn't an option. Even if I'm misreading the misogyny, steer clear of Midtown. They seem fine at first, but they showed up on the wrong day, didn't show up on the right day, and then canceled the rescheduled appointment (rescheduled from the day they didn't come) because I complained.

I had a vision and Wally made it happen. He had several before and after photos of his work which helped. His company is insured, again, needed. He did the update in two days and his clean-up was impressive. I had a little sawdust but overall, acceptable. There was just one oops, he did leave my interior door to our garage opened when he left. Luckily, the car garage door was closed so all was safe.

I have engineered hardwood flooring that was showing random damaged areas and I had no clue what…read morewas causing it. Jason from Creative Flooring Solutions came out and looked at the situation and gave me a quote on the labor to pull the flooring up and put new flooring down after we discover what was causing the damaged areas. It turned out to be termites. It was a small job, but Creative Flooring was kind enough to take it on anyway, which I greatly appreciated. They showed up on schedule to do the job, vacuumed & cleaned up any debris, I then had a termite guy come out to do his thing, and Creative Flooring Solutions returned at a later date to put the new flooring down. You can't even tell there was ever an issue now. The communication was great whenever I had questions, the pricing was extremely fair and reasonable, and I was very pleased with the outcome & end result. Highly recommend this business!
