I came here somewhat impulsively on a short trip to Scotland from the states. A friend had recommended it from when she'd lived in the city, and after looking at photos of the artists' work online and liking what I saw, I thought I'd give it a go. Unfortunately there was not enough time for my original tattoo plan - something fairly large and complex needs more than 24 hours notice for the artists to draw it up. However, I had a backup plan for a smaller, simpler piece that I already had an illustration for, and the folks at Tribal were able to fit me in. Rob did my tattoo and he did a great job - it looks lovely, was done quickly, and he was friendly and chatty while he did it. Put me at ease, as did the other folks in the shop. It's clean and they also have a nice selection of jewelry - both for body piercings and also necklaces, cuff links, etc. Price was reasonable as well. If I'm lucky enough to get back to this city, I'll try to set up an appointment here again - but with more notice ahead of time! read more

So after a fairly liquid lunch with one of my gal pals we thought "Hey, let's get our ears pierced!". We took a jaunt down the Royal Mile and came across Tribal Body Art. What the hell, let's go in! The guys in there are super cool and I felt like a bit of an idiot just getting an ear piercing but they were great about it. The place was heaving, which must be a good sign. We signed our health and safety bits and bobs and waited to be called in to the 'operating room'. This room is private and only you can go in there, it was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of reception. My piercer was lovely and she made me feel totally at ease. I was in and out in seconds. All the equipment she used and the room itself was very clean and sterile. I got two piercings for £30, bargain! read more

I feel like a bit of a hypocrite reviewing a tattoo parlor without ever getting a tattoo....but my friends have! And I've been with them! My friend Shelly, who has a plethora of tattoo's, would never go anywhere else in the city for her body-art. She loves it. I have other friends who have been to other places and say that tribal is the best for quality. At the end of the day, if you're getting a tattoo, you'll want it to be of high quality! When I first went into Tribal I was scared - I had these images in my head of a punk-rocker and feeling really uncomfortable in my bright pink jacket and pixie-shoes. But I really didn't! The staff were lovely and let me sit and watch my friend get her tattoo. They were extremely professional and very thorough to make sure everything was going to be perfect. So this is an embarassing story... Once upon a time, I was a fresher, got drunk and lost a bet. The next morning I found myself in here, having just shelled out £25 to get my nose pierced. Cracking idea. However, I have to say I was actually really impressed with the place and if I were to ever get anything pierced again I'd definitely come back to Tribal. The hygiene, professionalism, efficiency and obvious knowledgability of the staff was top notch, and I had absolutely no trouble at all with infections or anything like that. On that note, unlike most places where they try and flog you a £15 bottle of cleaning solution, the woman here just told me to use hot salty water - and she was right, it worked perfectly. My flatmate has more body piercings than I care to count visually in my head, and this is one of his favourite places to go. But don't let that put you off, I'd thought I was going to get stared at by all these scary-looking rockers and punks covered in tattoos and studs/hoops/bars, but everybody there was really friendly and nice. In fact, the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of the sheer pain. Not strictly Tribal's fault (the woman told me afterwards that nose piercings hurt more than "any other piercing anywhere else on her entire body" (ahem) because it's cartilage, but it still makes my eyes water just thinking about it. If you're not a complete wuss like me, this should be where you get your next piercing done. read more

Now, I am limited on my tattoo experiences, having only visited a few places, but there are definitely a few things I have in mind when I do: 1) Do you scare me when I walk through the door? 2) Do I scare you (honey, if that is the case, we have to talk) 3) Clean (some eh... not so much) 4) Interesting portfolios with art styles that work for me I have flash and I have custom work on me. I've had both tattoo'ed on me at Tribal. I love love love the work that Sarah Street (no longer with Tribal) did on my lower back - I may not see it every day but my tramp stamp is my pride and glory. My second was a piece of ivy on my wrist done by a gentleman whose name I no longer remember, but is a kickboxer, who was most disappointed with my about turn on having a character from the Gashcrumbly Tinies on my wrist instead. Perhaps when I have another life crisis (mid, pre-mid, post-mid, who knows?). Tribal works for me as I feel safe and comfortable there, the artists know what they are doing and produce great work. I went there on reccomendation and haven't looked back. If you want (and you really want, not 'oh I'll get it now and laser it off later...' crazy fools) a tattoo in the Edinburgh area, check em out and see if they fit you. read more

Came here to get 3 piercings. The piercer is absolutely amazing!! She's super qualified and patient and really kind. I was being a huge baby and she was super helpful!!! I recently went to tribal to get a piercing as this is where I usually go as do my friends for tattoos, although, on my last visit the receptionist was extremely rude. Long story short the receptionist spoke to me in a very cheeky manner let's say, which was the worst customer service I've received. It's always been an ambition of mine to get a "Made in Falkirk" tattoo stamped across my forehead, and while my fear of excruciating pain might keep that ambition as just a fantasy, If I were to take the plunge and permanently mutilate myself, this grimy, seedy and dangerous looking tattoo parlour would be as good a place as any to do it. They do everything from tramp stamps to bell-end piercings, and have been around for a good few years without getting shut down by Environmental Health, which is a rare accolade in their industry. I recently had a quarter life crisis (i turned 25) and so decided to get a tattoo. I had been to Tribal before to get my tragus pierced and then again to get another bit of my ear pierced and booked my tattoo. The place is really clean and the professional. The lady who does the piercings is really nice and makes you feel very at ease. The prices are pretty reasonable too. On Saturday i went to get my tattoo. The guy that did it was very patient and friendly. He drew a couple of designs for me until i was happy then he talked me through everything so i felt relaxed. The tattoo itself was ridiculously painful, apparently the ribs was not a wise place to get it. After it was done he was full of praise for how i handled it which was very sweet. I was halfway through my 2 week trip when I woke up to find one of my plugs missing. Eeps! I had to rush to find a place that had 0G that was open before it started to shrink. For some reason, tattoo shops in this area are barely ever open or appointment only. This was the only one I found that had jewelry. Although I live in deepest darkest Devon this is still my regular tattoo shop... I wouldn't trust anyone else to put ink to skin! It doesn't matter if you're looking to get the most basic text-based tattoo or a deeply complex design which will need to be built up over many visits... these guys will produce a high-quality tattoo with some cracking banter as you're sitting there. Tribal is a fantastic tattoo and piercing parlour. The staff are extremely helpful, friendly and professional. They are also refreshingly approachable. You can buy studs, rings and bars and there are loads of tattoo designs for you to browse through. If you go back with any queries or problems the staff are quick to help out. Good for a no-frills, in-and-out piercing experience. - The service could have been warmer and less rushed. - Before being pierced the receptionist asked me to fill in paperwork including a disclaimer confirming I had received full aftercare instructions - as I hadn't yet received the instructions, I didn't sign that part, but was told that I had to at that point, and that the piercer would go through everything before they pierced me. I signed, but then the piercer didn't say anything about aftercare until after the piercing was done. I've had piercings before so I know about general aftercare, but I was a bit iffy about being asked to sign something saying I'd received information that I hadn't. I don't see why it couldn't have been signed in the piercing room once aftercare had been discussed, especially since that's what the paperwork says should happen. - The small piercing room was a bit cramped and tired looking, and the wall-mounted fan in the corner was coated in thick strings of grey dust - not a good thing to see in an environment where cleanliness and hygiene are so important! An alcove on the main shop floor was filled with dusty office chairs too, which looked really bad. + The piercer (Sarah) was friendly and explained the procedure clearly. I'd recommend asking for her if you're getting pierced. + There was a good range of jewellery in stock, at prices comparable to online prices once postage is factored in. I intend to go back to be fitted with a new piece of jewellery once my piercing's healed. The dirty fan and rushed service mean this wasn't a particularly enjoyable experience, but if you just want to get pierced and go, it's a decent place. read more

Went to Tribal to get some long overdue piercings, starting with a second in my ear. I was a nervous gibbering fool as I am pretty needle phobic/ OCD, but the professional who did it gave me fantastic advice and positioned the piercing perfectly, even matching the exit angle of the piercing in my other ear from front to back. Went back this weekend to have a labret piercing to take a spike between my lip and chin and again, got great advice, my nerves calmed and what I thought would be total trauma was fantastically easy. Again, the positioning is superb, exactly what I wanted. The best things are hyper cleanliness, great skill and professionalism and my belief that if you were gonna ask for something stupid that didn't suit you - they would advise you. Actually made an account for this as I was so disgruntled. From the start I felt patronised and didn't appreciate getting snapped at by the male piercer. When I tried to explain what was the problem he interjected and said "I'll be able to do it better than you" and shut me down, mid-explanation. He criticised me from the second I walked through the door until I left and I wasn't sure why. This is all on top of the fact that last time I was there, the other piercer gave my friend a conch piercing (all the way through the ear) as opposed to a simple helix piercing like she had specifically asked for, by name. Not being experts, we assumed (silly us) that the dot would be in the right place and didn't check. My friend too mortified to say anything but was in substantially more pain than expected and needless to say, we never went back. I only went in for a simple issue yet I wish I had gone somewhere else. I left feeling quite grumpy, sort of feeling like I had been told off. read more

I came here to get a cartilage piercing, and since I'm a big wimp with nothing pierced except my earlobes, I wanted to find somewhere that was going to be friendly and non-intimidating. And Tribal Body Art was great! Sarah (I think was her name) did the piercing, and she was very nice and chatty. Made me feel totally comfortable. And I only paid 16 pounds, with the student discount. Came in here after I'd just snagged my nose ring on a towel and it was all bent and horrible. Above my hoop I'd had a huge keloid which had been a disgusting mess for the last 3 months (I'd tried everything: alcohol, aspirin, salt water, tea tree, camomile tea press). I came in to this shop because it looked really unthreatening and was lovely and clean, and a really nice lady instantly brought me into the piercing room and really safely and hygienically took my bent hoop out, cleaned it up and put a gorgeous stud in. She explained that I was probably being irritated by the metal in the hoop so she put in a hypoallergenic stud in and wrote down the exact measurements for salt water which she told me to carry on with. A week later the keloid had gone and I'm so happy!!! read more

Received my first piercing from tribal the other day and so far I am impressed, the piercist was absolutely lovely, put me at ease and let me put my headphones in while she pierced me, and made sure I knew how to look after it etc. shop was very clean, belly bar came out of sterile bag etc. Cost a little more than I was expecting, £27 for a completely plain bar with a student discount, but worth it as they only use titanium, piercings on a walk in basis. Overall very impressed and will definately be coming back :) read more
