But of the BRP overlooks I have seen in North Carolina, this most certainly is my favorite. That being said, as you drive the Parkway, you will have many "new" favorites along the way. Some offer the same view from a different angle, however, sometimes the angle makes ALL the difference. For example, nearby overlooks such as Richland Balsam, Beartrail Ridge Gap, and Haywood Gap all basically have the exact same view as Cowee Mountain Overlook, but vegetation plays a huge factor in the viewing field. Other stops such as Graveyard Fields offer a hiking trail and waterfalls while Lone Bald Overlook sits directly on a mountain ridge and you can see for miles in BOTH directions. Cowee Mountain Overlook is located @ mile post 430.7, just a mile from Richland Balsam which is the highest elevation on the Parkway @ 6,053. Although Cowee is slightly less elevated @ 5,950 feet, it is superior in view. Also, since it is over a mile above sea level, I gave my wife a smooch and told her we are officially in he mile high club. Although I'm sure we don't fit the dirtier parameters of the club, we're calling it a win anyway :-) FINAL THOUGHTS When making plans to visit Asheville, Brevard or Cherokee and only have time to stop at one overlook, make it this one!!! You want to talk about dedication? I might not go to many Yelp events or tell people I'm Yelp Elite…read more(never happens ... except right now I guess), but who the heck Yelps the Cherokee North Carolina Post Office? Now that's some freaking dedication! Enough patting myself on the back, at least for now. I'll just tell you about the post office. I will tell you two different stories. One is true and one is false. You will have to figure out which is true and which is false. Story 1: I entered the post office and held the door for a native. Despite doing my best to be friendly, he still glared at me like he didn't like me. I get it, but I personally had nothing to do with it. I then waited in line where I discussed the best breakfast places in town with a poker dealer who happened to be in front of me. I sent my watch to a buyer without a problem. In and out within ten minutes. Story 2: I entered the post office to find two women standing next to each other in line in front of me. The one with the shaved head smiled at her tattooed friend with eyeglasses flirtatiously. I could immediately tell what was going on. The same shaved-headed chick then looked at me and smiled. I just nodded and said, "Hey." Not that kind of "Hey." More like a, "Hello, how are you?" Her friend then looked at me and smiled, and I began to wonder what was happening. Were they messing with me? It was their turn to take care of business at the counter, so I waited patiently to send my watch. When they exited, the bald-headed chick smacked her friend on the backside and laughed over her shoulder in my direction. When I walked up to the counter, I found a blonde woman waiting to help me--in Cherokee, North Carolina, which is an Indian reservation. I shifted my eyes to the departing lesbians, then back to her, and said, "What's going on here?" "What do you mean? It's a post office." All this time, I had no idea post offices were places where you could see and experience things so out the ordinary. I'm purposely going to the Huntersville Post Office instead of the supermarket to buy stamps tomorrow. I'll keep you posted!

Upon a curteous authentic greeting my mail was located quickly and instructions given to solve the problem in one phone call. I am aware things do not always work out , but even if it had not the genuine interest and concern really is appreciated. Thank you so much Cherokee post office!
