It's been almost rebuilt by scratch and been undergoing major changes between the 11th and 15th Century. Quite a time to finish this cathedral. Some sources date the origins even before that. We haven't had the time to go inside, but just from outside it's definitely a looker and worth checking this little town out.

You can get a nice view of the valley below and there is a nice little tree filled garden with seating area in the back of the castle with more gorgeous views. Entrance is free and there's is a small paid parking lot beside the castle/fortress. Definitely worth the quick stop here.

The people of Siena and Florence were often at war with each other and this Fortezza was built by the people of Siena and served as an important protector for the town of Montalcino. It survived many attacks and remains intact since it was built in the mid 1300s. Inside the fortress, there are gardens, courtyards, and a small chapel. There is access from the inner courtyard to the stands and towers, from where you can enjoy epic views of the valley.

It's hard to miss with the impressive Duomo Di Grosseto, which is a little-known masterpiece. After the less-impressive outskirts of Grosseto, this is a real highlight in the compact and charming Historic Center of Grosseto, which is still very underrated I'd say. The Piazza is pretty quiet on a sunday afternoon and many shops and restaurants are close (or close up at lunchtime). But we did come for a bit of a quiet walk and relaxing time that day, so it was perfect for that. Besides the Duomo, the equally impressive Palazzo della Provincia will catch your eye as well as the Monumento a Leopoldo II right in the middle of the Piazza. It's a nice place for a quick stroll, or just to sit down and the the whole scene in. Around the piazza there are a good number of restaurants and some shops. What's missing is a public toilet, so you just gotta get some coffee somewhere. A really nice place, well worth spending an afternoon or so.
