After taking my 15 year old Taylor acoustic guitar to a different repair shop, I was reasonably satisfied, but not thrilled. They subsequently went out of business, and I needed new strings, so I found Tringas Music. I told my story to the sales clerk and he suggested I bring it in for a free diagnostic, as their luthier was highly trained and experienced and might be able to make an improvement, but if not, there would be no cost. He also mentioned that they had done a number of fixes on the "repairs" done by the shop I had used. A few months later I did bring my Taylor to Tringas. I talked with Greg Tringas, the owner, who examined it inside and out, and was clearly a bit saddened by what had been done to fix the cracks because of the aesthetics, but told me it was best to leave the repairs as they were. Basically, he felt that the cracks should have been invisible after the repair, which I could see would have been the case if they had been repaired more expertly. That was water under the bridge, but speaking of "bridge", he did feel he could make a major (to me) improvement in the action, explained everything they would do, and quoted me a price. He was very respectful and clear, showing he understood how valuable my instrument is to ME. A few days later they called, and I went to pick it up. I am THRILLED with the playability and sound. This guitar sounds better than when it was brand new and it is tremendously easier to play. I recommend these guys wholeheartedly. Wow. What a find. Greg is the real deal. It's all about service with him. He's selling guitars at cost as nobody can compete with the online stores anymore. So he has to eek out a living doing what he obviously loves, being a luthier. And he's good at it, he's done it forever. My Martin was underwater for three days and warped beyond recognition. I thought it was totaled. When I got it back it was nearly perfect. I highly recommend Tringas and hope they can weather the new economy. We need more techs that can actually fix rather then replace everything. read more

I recently had re-ignited my desire to play guitar; I've passed Tringas hundreds of times on Creightin rd. and thought I'd stop in to see what they had to offer. About an hour later, I walked out extremely satisfied with the service I was provided and a very nice; reasonably priced guitar. From the moment I walked through the door the staff was very informative on the guitars, their manufactures, the way they were constructed, etc.. After sitting me down and letting me play a few, they steered me in the right direction for what was best for me; not what was most profitable for them. Upon finding the right guitar, we proceeded to the checkout counter where they did a final tuning and playing to make sure that everything was as it should be. There was a minor blemish in sound, upon which, the guitar was promptly given to the owner of the store, Mr. Tringa, for an adjustment. After the adjustment, Mr. Tringa went over the ins and outs, the dos and don'ts, and how to correctly care for your guitar. All of this as if I had just purchased a $3,000 guitar.. This store takes excellent care of the products it displays and sells in their showroom. Everyone seemed friendly enough on first impression. Store staff - Brian and Aaron - are professional, courteous and helpful. Unfortunately, the rest of my experience has been disappointing. Two years ago, I bought a Martin Dreadnaught Junior there. The guitar developed issues after the sale. The Owner, Greg Tringas, could not remedy nor supply a plausible explanation. He suggested obvious rattling and buzzing of the the G and B strings were inherent in the guitar and acceptable or normal??? That attitude, coupled with a business that doesn't even allow customers to use restroom facilities, raised big red flags. Ultimately, I traded the Dread Junior, even though other options were available via Martin's Warranty. Dial forward two years later: I decided to give Tringas another shot since they are currently the only local Martin dealer. I inquired about certain policies that anyone buying an instrument of $600 or more should ask. Ultimately, I was referred back to Greg. He didn't appreciate concerns expressed about the last sale. Anyone seems to quickly become a 'problem customer' if they don't concur with his opinions. Other music retail store owners are generally helpful, solutions-oriented and refrain from long spiels about 'unrealistic' expectations. Is it unreasonable to expect basic assurances on Lifetime Service promises that failed to fix a problem encountered with a previous purchase? Fortunately, there are many other ways to procure Martin Guitars outside of the one current local dealer here in Pensacola, FL. read more

Top-Notch, Best of the Best. I took my old 20 year old Yamaha guitar in to see if there was anything that could be done ...neck, frets, etc. Craig (the owner, and master technician) made me feel like I was his only customer. Very personable, and very much wanting to make sure that he got exactly what I wanted. The guitar turned out to be amazing. Terrible absolutely terrible. I dealt with the owner himself and he stuck it to me. I emailed them and asked if they worked on banjos and he said yes,so I set up a time to drop off my banjo and give him a little background on what I wanted which was a basic setup nothing fancy I might ad. Well he talked with me some and seemed like a good guy and said he would be able to do the work and get it back to me in 2 or 3 days and gave me an estimate for what the work would cost. So I left it with him. I get a call 3 days later saying my banjo is done so I go to get it and the dude is still working on it so I sit around for an entire hour while he's still working. I didn't think nothing of it because I'm a good guy I just figured it took him a little longer to get it together than he thought it would. He finally rolls out of the back with my banjo and right off the bat sits it in front of me and guesse what there's a crack in the fretboard that wasn't there when I left it with him, and he tells me that it must of happened because the fretboard was dry, the only problem with this is that the fret board wasn't dry and the banjo was actually only a few weeks old at the time. Needless to say I'm upset but I continue on and pick up the banjo to play it and holy crap I hit a note and it sounds like death so I keep going in hopes that somehow my hearing messed up on me and that any second now it will come back and this thing will sound like angels playing harps but alas it just kept getting worse and worse sounding. At this point I don't know what to do because I know if I demand for him to fix it he want and can't because if could have he would of done it in the first place. And I know I can't just walk out with the darn thing because he could call the cops so I know I have to do something because I was getting more and more upset by the second and knew if I had to stand there and look at this hack for another second a bad sounding banjo was gonna be the least of my problems, so I pay him and leave. It gets worse because as time passes I realize he charged me double what anyone else on this planet we call earth would have, and I blame that one on me for not getting more quotes but I believed this guys nice guy hard working everyday American act he put on when in reality he's a lier and thief. I eventually take the banjo to another shop and they tell me all the things that need to be done to it and guesse what it's all the things that he was suppose to do and more that he told me he did and on top of that there where parts missing from the banjos internal area and parts inside that had been loosened to the point that they where about to come apart. Once I get the banjo back from them it sounds like it suppose to sound and that's good. So moral of the story is this guy is a joke he's not honest. He charges a lot especially seeing how he can't actually do the work. Where I come from people like him are called crooks, and you don't do business with crooks unless you want to be ripped off. read more
