I've been attending since late 2010/early 2011 and have been a member for some time now, so I think I've had enough time to marinate over my thoughts and feelings about Community Christian. As you can guess, it's likely to be a positive review since I've been in attendance for so long. One of the first few things that you notice when visiting Community Christian is exactly that.... the community. It sounds cliché, yes, but it's the truth and a common theme you'll find when talking to pretty much anyone in attendance. Smiles are real, hugs/handshakes/fist bumps are in abundance. Conversations are meaningful and filled with genuine interest. Meaning, when people ask "how're you doing?", they're actually interested in the real answer rather than just a "Oh, good good, and you?", response. Generosity is another thing you'll notice. The mission statement is "Helping people find their way back to God". This mission can only exist when generosity flows. Immediately your mind will go to $$$$, but that's not the only way to be generous. Something as simple as the food and coffee available on Sunday mornings goes a long way. There is a team of dedicated volunteers who prepare many many hot meal options, snacks, beverages, etc., on Sunday mornings. Rarely will you encounter a cliché single pink box of donuts. (But when the kitchen staff allow themselves to take a week off, there ain't nothing wrong with some doughy goodness!!!) In addition to food on Sunday mornings, Community Christian partners with Martha's Kitchen on Thursday evenings to provide hot to-go meals to anyone who shows up, no questions asked. (As long as supplies last) That's all within the realm of the church campus. If you look outward, the desire to serve time local community is HUGE! Teacher gift baskets for nearby school teachers, regular communication with city leaders to help figure out how to best serve the residents of Morgan Hill, maintenance projects to help clean up and beautify various areas in town. The list goes on! Recently with our previous pastor stepping down to pursue other ministry opportunities, Will Sawkins stepped into the role of lead Pastor and hasn't missed a beat yet! The atmosphere has been really energetic since he stepped into the role and there has been a steady stream of new faces coming every week. (Many of them returning and becoming "familiar faces", yay!) Being one of the drummers on the worship team, I'm biased towards the music ministry and love it. Since music is very subjective, you'll just have to come have a listen for yourself. If I missed something I will update my post. I'm sure there's plenty I missed right now.

This church is an amazing church but all of the sermons and stories related from real life to those…read moreof the Bible is typically really privileged stories of what others in the church can relate to as it is clear that that's a big portion of the population of the church. An example I will use is the fact that one Sunday there was a lot of talk about adoption and relating adoption to the real world. The only part of the adoption that was focused on was privileged parents having the ability to travel internationally to get a baby. There was a brief mention of foster care. But what about the poor women who are giving up their babies or resort to adoption because they can't afford their child but someone who pays upwards of $30k can? I feel like they are a key part in adoption and could have been mentioned and related somehow to being adopted in God's world. Or, this church seems to help everyone. But they never ask if people if their own church needs help - and it feels like that's a matter of privilege to believe that the people in their own church might need help. I mention this because they work closely with an amazing community pregnancy center in Gilroy and one time they had them talk at Church. They mentioned how this organization has stopped abortions, but NEVER once offered as a church to the people who have even had the thought of abortion to pray or offer assistance. Because no one gets an abortion because they want to. And this pregnancy center is wonderful. For example, it could have been mentioned that they have abortion support groups. But when you go there, and you are in crisis, this center will focus on you and pray with you and offer you resources. I feel like as time goes on, church is becoming more of "you should do this" and not how can your church community can help you. And maybe this is just me when I grew up in the South with a very welcoming church community but I never felt conscious of the fact that I was so financially different from the people around me. However, clearly the sermons do relate to those around me so my thoughts are of just one person who sometimes wants a little more inclusivity. I will continue coming to this church. I am very grateful for this church. I just would love a church that felt a bit more inclusive. And last thing - whenever I read the Bible, context is important for me. If that is important to you, know that sometimes at this church they will take out a scripture and not share the context of what was happening in the scripture which does not always build a strong knowledge of the Bible. This church has its pros and cons, and for now the pros really outweigh the cons because I don't want to try another church! However, I urge everyone to consider where they may attended.

The last review is pretty much false…read more A) most Bible faith Christians anywhere will advise anyone against living a gay life style simply because Christ warned us against it. It will always be done in an understanding and compassionate way. Leaving the judgment up to God. If you go to learn about any religion you are going to hear about their beliefs. If you don't like it then you move on to another place preaching that which your ears are keen to hear. I don't think believing what the Bible says and preaching what the Bible says deserves such a harsh review. I do not attend this church regularly but I attend another which teaches The Gospel in a similar way, and my parents attend this church, I have been several times and know the preacher well. He is a nice guy, very intelligent and as far as I know has not preached AGAINST dancing. All of the members are sweet, compassionate, loving and accepting people, which I've gotten close to over the years. I have been going thru many medical complications and have had many surgeries making it impossible to work, the members of the south valley church of Christ including the preacher and his wife have done all they can to support my parents while they have had to support me. B) The church of Christ teaches and spreads The Gospel. Nothing more nothing less. And has never preached against dancing as far as I know. I, and other Christians who attend The Church of Christ do in fact dance, and find nothing wrong with it, obviously, as long as it isn't dancing to attract sexual attention etc. I suspect the last reviewer took the sermon out of context, probably because he didn't want to be there in the first place (maybe went with a family member) and had preconceived opinions of the place before he stepped foot inside. The South Valley Church of Christ is very small. It is a quiet group, and that might not suit everyone but if you like a more boisterous, larger group to worship and fellowship with, consider a Church Of Christ with more members. I attend East Foot Hills Church of Christ and we have a fair amount of people worshiping with us. We are a very diverse group and have a lot of fun together. However if you would like to expand your family with a small and close group of loving individuals, then consider South Valley. All I'm asking is that you give them a try and meet these beautifully kind people before believing the lies the last reviewer posted. They simply are not true.

Nellie P. is correct. My husband and I have been attending South Valley Church of Christ for over 5…read moreyears. It is a small group of welcoming, loving Christians. We are a conservative congratulation. We believe the Bible is the Word of God and everything in it is truth. We pattern everything we do in worship services after the 1st century Christians according to the commandments and examples given by the apostles in the new testament. We do believe the gay lifestyle is sinful because the Bible says it is. We also believe that any sexual activity outside the marriage bed is also sinful and we believe that marriage between a man and woman is the only marriage sanctioned by God (Gen 2:24 and Matt 19:4-5 and Mark 10:6-7). Having said that we love all people and pray that those living in sinful situations come to repentance so that they can live their lives to the fullest in Christ.
