The interior is both expansive and beautiful, with colored tiled flooring and separated areas with baptismal fonts and altar areas. I found the history fascinating. Yes, the mummified cat and rat are on display (a fun story there) as well as a copy of the Magna Carta. The church still holds services, and in the past, has been used for filming television episodes and movies. In the crypt, i saw some wardrobes worn by the characters. However, I'm still struck by the date on a foundation stone for an earlier structure on this site, protected by plexiglass at the gift shop, is around 1,030 AD! The United States of America, where I live, is only 250 years old!! MISC While not free, the fee to go inside was affordable. We chose the self-guided tour option, although both guided and an audio are additionally offered. Plan to spend at least an hour here.

Today, Dublin's Christ Church Cathedral draws hundreds of thousands of visitors a year. An important relic in the Christ Church Cathedral is St. Laurence O'Toole's heart. St. Laurence O'Toole is the Saint of Dublin so the relic is nicknamed the heart of Dublin. According to the Irish Time's the relic was stolen in 2012 and then miraculously found in a park unharmed in a plastic bag in 2018. At the west end of the cathedral is a fully integrated stone bridge, a Dublin landmark, leading to the former synod hall. This hall, which incorporates the old St Michael's tower, is now home to the "Dublinia" exhibition about medieval Dublin. Christ Church Cathedral, formally the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, only became part of the Church of Ireland following the English Reformation.

The words (and the kneeling at the altar rail) were slightly different than our own back home, but that's the good thing about the Catholic church is that it is universal wherever you go. (We even got asked to take up the gifts)

The grounds are small but lovely and well tended; the sanctuary is absolutely stunning. Sitting near the front gave us an unobstructed view of the alter and the intricate stained glass windows. The priest was well-spoken and delivered a meaningful message on this important day in Ireland's history. We were delighted to receive shamrock clippings that had been blessed by the priest at the end of Mass. All in all it was a grand start to a festive day.

The shrine and statue of Our Lady of Dublin are also here to see as well as relics of St Albert of Sicily. The church was designed by a person called George Papworth and was completely bulit in 1825 and it's one of Dublin's famous best-known churches, and many peope come here around the world to come and see it Its a great church i enjoyed seeing it too.

We were there to visit the relics of Saint Valentine (figuring it was a suitable thing to do on Valentine's Day). We slipped in during mass and found the specific shrine, which was covered in roses and various ribbons from visitors. We lit a candle and signed the guest book before crouching down to see the chest of relics, placed behind glass under the booth, somewhat obscurely. We admired the other shrines, which are quite beautiful, and left as the mass ended. We went into the church shop, hoping to find a candle or pendant of St. Valentine, but surprisingly, all we could find was a card with an image of the shrine. Overall though, a nice experience on the day of love. I'm still very surprised at how relatively unknown this Dublin treasure is!

Some refer to it as the 'chuch at the pub' I heard. That's because Johnnie Fox's pub, known as 'the highest pub in Ireland' is just steps away up the hill. The setting is gorgeous for either a wedding or a burial. I've been to both events here - joyful and sad. There's a rich history that you can feel in the air here. On either a bright or blustery day, it will take your breath away. This is Ireland.

It is the oldest remaining medieval church left in Dublin at the age of 824 years having been built in the year 1190. The church is simply amazing! I was astonished how intact the original structure was considering how old it is and also what it has been through in its history. The only substantial damage was to the roof in the Portlester chapel area. The medieval masonry work is remarkable. The surrounding gardens are amazingly beautiful and the staff that run the church were extremely nice and very helpful in my search of historical data. When walking through the church you can easily feel and picture how it would have been to live in the times of knights and kings. Its a definite historical must see when in Ireland!!!!!!!!!!

This is a well attended and well appointed Catholic Church in the Dublin suburb of Monkstown. Often…read moreoverlooked due to its flamboyant Anglican neighbour and namesake-a Gothick Triumph designed by Semple with the distinguishment of being John Betjemans favorite church- this church is none the less one of great beauty in its own right. An excellent study in French Gothic, this neo-gothic granite building dates from the 1860s in the main and was designed by Pugin and Ashlin, who were perhaps the greatest proponents of Victorian Gothic in their day,the equal of the Gilbert Scotts and perhaps only rivaled by the father of one of its members Augustus Pugin. The exterior contains much finely preserved embellished carving in its main entrance front, its beautiful wrought iron railings as well as flache along the roof, decorative roof slates,and of course its beautiful tower and steeple, the bells where recently recommissioned by the last priest,giving much embellishment to the village. All set within its rather lovely if undervalued Close. Inside, it follows a very traditional Catholic arrangement, being not too greatly marred by Vatican 2, bar the loss of just a small amount of its original ornament-thank god!! The interior has several striking interior features. Firstly its stained glass, which is well known and of great quality in that quintessentially Victorian way, provides a delicate and lovely illumination of the interior. Secondly the stone of the columns and peers, all in red and black with white capitals add a little drama, but its triumph de force is its carvings. It holds a unique set of stations of the cross, many beautiful altars and statuary, all finished white (bar two!). It is a striking arrangement of sheer elegance which with its delicate coloured light creates a sublime atmosphere. I always felt lucky to have such a beautiful parish church growing up as a child. It hosts the regular catholic ceremonies, and has a fairly decent choir for Sunday noon service, accompanied by quite a wonderful organ.
