They directed us to their adjoining space, which looks like an out-of-business shop that they've just taken over and are expanding into. There was only one table free there and we nabbed it! Afghan Kebab is fairly meat-heavy with all the chicken and lamb skewers and such, as can be expected, but they did have some vegetarian options as well. Unfortunately, most of the veg options contain yoghurt -- but they're happy to remove the yoghurt to make the dishes fully vegan, and honestly you don't feel like you're missing much. I had a dish called "zerishk palaw," which is Persian. It's a bunch of yummy seasoned rice with barberries -- little red berries that are quite tart and are a staple in Iran. I don't think I've ever had barberries before in my life, but now I'll be on the lookout for them. Our Persian friend said his mother uses them all the time and makes a nice juice out of them too. Yum! Service was friendly and efficient. The place is definitely a cheap-and-cheerful type of place with plastic chairs and zero decor and stuff, but it was perfectly fine for our purposes. I don't live anywhere near Campbellfield, otherwise I'd be back for sure when I'm in the mood for a cheap, authentic Middle Eastern dish -- but if you're in the area, check it out!

"...THOUGHT I'D HAD THE BEST ~ MORE 'BEST' CAME TODAY...!!!"…read more Went to Barry Road Shopping Strip, Campbellfield late this afternoon to buy Turkish sweets for my kids - they love those honey soaked fried choux pastries.. I'd spent most of the day making my famous lasagna for dinner.. my Calabrian Godmother's very special recipe - yeah it's good... or so everyone tells me - unbelievably good..! Anyway, I get out there... as soon as I get out of the car, all I can smell is this 'irresistable smokey - delish charcoal grilling freshly marinated meat' scent... hey, I can't walk away from that sort of whiff easily... no.. no way... I buy the sweets, put them in the car, then go 'chasin that smoke'... Found it.. a few doors down.. at AFGHAN KEBAB CAMPBELLFIELD.. It's just a very simple little eatery - possibly 8 to 10 tables, with chairs, indoors and a few more, out - it's hot tonight - all the tables inside are full - near the front door, there's a guy at a an authentic charcoal grill, turning possibly 20 or 30 large skewers - another guy's at the other end of the shop barbecuing big Afghani breads - two women and a man stand in the centre, behind a half refrigerated, half heated long stainless steel counter - they're flat out taking orders, serving up plates, and containers to go, and making Afghan donars [skewered meats] and shawarmas [shaved meats]... I placed my order for 4 Chicken and 4 Lamb Donars - $7 each - I was being greedy - couldn't help myself - knowing, though, that if they were huge [which they were] then 4 would go straight into the fridge - for lunches tomorrow.. Well, I got home - cut 2 chicken and 2 lamb in half - put them on plates - I really don't think I'm gonna be able to explain, using words alone, just how good they were.... Here I go: - a foot by a foot square of warm soft spongey kinda almost elastic barbecued Afghan flat bread - generously filled with crisp fresh salad greens; sliced red onions, cucumber, tomatoes - 2 just charcoal grilled longish skewers of perfectly-cooked, succulent, juicy tender lean pre-marinated chicken pieces (4) AND lamb chunks (4) - the whole lot was seasoned with salt and pepper - then all drizzled with a home-made olive oil based dressing - rolled tightly in paper lined alfoil and inserted into a plain white long paper bag - one end open so the hot steam doesn't engender any sogginess And there you have one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten....!!!! PS The lasagna went into the freezer... Visited on Sunday 07 February 2016 for Take-Away Dinner

The set up is different, and like as if they took a tip from the whole food truck craze. You order outside from a fixed stand and take a number to sit either indoors, or in their outdoor seating area. The indoor section has a playpen for the kiddies and wood panels surrounding the wall. There's a steady stream of people, which I always take as a good thing. The first visit was strictly a milkshake mission. The Ferrero Rocher was perfect and complete chocolate hazelnut, not a let down. The Creme Brulee was good too, but I wish I ordered the Ferrero Rocher. Both were thick, but not too thick, just a really good consistency. And sweet, but not too sweet. The second visit involved going all out with their menu choices: a herb crusted chick burger, Raffaelo shake and waffle cheese fries. And all I can say is whoa. This meal is not meant for one. There's no way. I was happy with everything, but it was so overwhelming to try and finish everything. The chicken burger was a handful on a lovely Sourdough bun, and had a rich Alfredo sauce. The waffle fries were yummy but had a thick and heavy three cheese sauce. The shake was beautiful and just like liquefied Raffaelo, which is exactly what you'd want it to be. It was a learning experience, next time would be one or the other (burger vs waffle fries), the shakes are a must. Or maybe I'd split the burger and still have the shake and fries. I'm not sure, but what I do know is that I won't do all three at once again. Plus side: open til 11pm on weekdays and midnight on Friday & Saturday.

It is easily accessible via public transport, with a bus stop close by. We were a little confused upon arrival as there is a burger track situated at the front - so we thought that Burgies might have been a burger truck and not a 'dine in' kind of experience... but we soon realised that they had both indoor and outdoor seating, and the truck was there to take orders. We were greeted by a friendly staff member at the truck, and all the staff members we encountered there were very hospitable and sociable. We both ordered 'The Lava' burger with an added patty, waffle cheese fries with added avocado, and gelato thick shakes - one being Strawberry Cheesecake and the other Ferrero Rocher. Price wise they stack up pretty well against their competitors. Their most expensive burger is $12.00, and to add-on a beef patty only costs an extra $2.50 - which is amazing value! They have a range of burgers including beef, chicken, lamb and vegetarian options. Their shakes and sides were around average price. We were given a restaurant pager, and then took a seat inside. The venue is really great! We loved the set up, and we loved the use of the crates on the walls which tied in with the industrial area. It has a modern interior, and even had a play pen for kids which we thought was a great idea for families that visit! It wasn't long before our pager went off, so we went and grabbed our food. Everything looked delicious, and we were particularly excited about the waffle fries. They tasted scrumptious! Lovely and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The avocado and cheese sauce went really well with them, and the serving size was definitely decent. 'The Lava' burger was really yummy too! The patty was spicy, which we did not initially realise, but it was enjoyable. The tasty cheese, egg and caramelised onion tasted really nice together, and the lettuce gave a bit of refreshment to break down the spiciness and warmth. We quite enjoyed the mild-peri sauce too! The shakes were thick and creamy, and conveniently given in take-away cups. We were impressed by the overall location, service and food at Burgies - and highly recommend that you check them out.

And it's totally authentic (you're in Campbellfield, after all.) We've been here a few times and have gotten a variety of dishes. Staff knows what "vegan" means and will be sure to make your food without dairy or egg as long as you specify it when ordering. We've tried a few things on the menu, but I like the vegetarian plate, which comes with 7 falafel balls, hummus, and foul, as well as some pickled turnips. (Foul is a dish made from fava beans, chickpeas, and lemon oil -- an interesting flavour that I wasn't used to before I started eating foul. I like it, but maybe it's a bit of an acquired taste.) Their falafels are made using "grandma's recipe" and are light, fluffy, and fresh-tasting -- not heavy or greasy like from a kebab shop. Very nice falafels. The vegetarian plate will set you back $12 and is heaps of food. Cheeeeeeap. You can also get a falafel wrap for a mere $5, or a more exotic Iraqi falafel wrap that comes with Iraqi bread and pickled-mango "ambah" sauce. (I haven't tried this yet.) My boyfriend always gets the hummus fatteh (called "tesiyeh" in some countries, like Syria) -- which is a hummus-yogurt type of dish. Unfortunately, they don't have a dairy-free version of this, so it's not vegan. Definitely stop in at Falafel Moudy if you are hungry and want some excellent vegetarian Middle Eastern food on the cheap!

And so it was one stormy morning that my five year old daughter and I found ourselves stranded at Broady Shopping Centre, both of us just as scared as each other by the claps of thunder we could hear. And then I noticed a sign that said pancakes, and I was taken back to a time where my mummy's pancakes cured the anxiety caused by the evil storm. I can't cook like my mum, so I made the best of a bad situation and excitedly told my girl we were going to have a 'girls brunch' and went about ordering us both a serve of pancakes with golden syrup, ice cream and strawberries. (Geez, makes me feel like going back there right now!) Our girly brunch came really fast and the service was so pleasant. The servings of pancakes were HUGE! Three massive pancakes with huge dollops of ice cream and strawberries; I'm not too sure if the staff knew it was comfort food or not, but it certainly felt like as if we were being taken care of! For $7.00 a plate, I honestly can't believe how scrumptious these were, and they did the trick - my daughter and I enjoyed our pancakes and special mummy-daughter time so much we forgot all about that evil storm.
