Rooms are a bit dated with old carpets (according to my wife, ours smelled). Small bathroom with not enough shelf space. Room has no place to hang or put clothing so we had our stuff sprawled all over the place. The hotel needs some upgrades to charge what they charge. 3 stars. One annoyance: The hotel staff tried to presell / upsell overnight parking at $20 when there was plenty (plenty!!) of free parking a block away (and according to my family, parking enforcement is pretty lax).Why do that? 1 star. The king bed is super comfy, and there is a kitchen with everything you might need, as well as board games and puzzles. Everything inside and out is lovingly cared for. There is also a private beach with the prettiest little forest path leading up to it, and lots of seashells and cute birds and otters! We stayed in room 6. It's an old Victorian house with a number of antique artifacts including instruments, guns, books, etc. There is no elevator - you have to climb the stairs to get to your room or downstairs to the billiards table & guest fridge. The innkeeper is extremely sweet. She welcomed us in and explained about the house. At 9am (prompt), she serves breakfast, which was a delight! It was a full 3 course meal - everything home-made (or from a local bakery). Honestly, the breakfast here was better than our dinner at a restaurant the night before! Our room was very cute - it looked like the inside of a doll house. For my husband, who is a tall man (6'2), he felt a bit claustrophobic because the ceiling comes inwards. But for my 5' self, I didn't mind. Everything was clean and had a nice presentation. They even had home-made cookies waiting! We really enjoyed our stay, and it was nice to have a sit down breakfast with the other guests and chat together. There's also a sweet doggo named Ursa who you may see putter around. For a nice weekend away from the city, this is a very cozy quaint place to stay.

The little house is a beautiful gem and perfect for a family with kids - there is only one bedroom on the first floor and then a sleeping loft accessed by a ladder (which the kids thought was cool). The house was very clean and well maintained and had all the comforts of home. My wife and I both like to cook and the kitchen had everything we needed, including a nice gas range and all the basic sundries we needed (oil, vinegar, basic spices, ketchup, mustard, etc.) The area is convenient enough to town but far enough away so one could enjoy the 'country', including the peace and solitude we were seeking. Perfect. The surrounding property and deck were perfect for us and we enjoyed the hot tub after long days of hiking in Olympic National Park. We also enjoyed dinner on the deck while overlooking the Olympic Range. We've rented many houses over the years and this was one of the best. Would recommend this place to anyone. The owners are very nice. A few notes: 1. While this house says it could sleep 8, I'm not sure this house would be comfortable for more than 2 adults and kids, unless two adults like climbing the ladder to the loft and sharing space with the kids. The house is perfect for a couple or small family. 2. The hot tub cover weighed a ton! I tried placing it back on the tub myself and it fell and cracked. I nearly had a heart attack with worry (lost deposit, causing damage for something not my fault). The owner assured me the next morning that lid was old, and degrading so soaking up water and they should have told me ahead of time. They refunded me security deposit without delay. Don't hesitate to stay here - just awesome!!

The home is large, fully furnished, plenty of seating for everybody and plenty of amenities for us to relax and enjoy our evening. The linens are soft, beds are comfortable and rooms are well decorated. The entire home was very clean and well kept with games and books for everybody to enjoy! We had six adults and three children for the night and never felt crowded! Doug is amazing and very quick to respond with questions or any other needs. We locked ourselves out while watching the fireworks (the front door locks automatically) and he responded within just a few minutes so we could get in out of the cold! The only issue with the home is that it's impossible to enjoy all the home has to offer during the winter with check in not until 4:00 pm and check out at 11:00 am. We had absolutely no time to appreciate the beautiful view, well maintained yard and large back deck. Perhaps during the winter the check in could be a bit earlier since it gets dark so early. We stayed in Guesthouse #1 and would highly recommend it to any large family or group staying in the area.

The backyard / outside area had a great view with blackberry bushes which I could pick as I enjoyed the sunny weather. This was a quiet hotel/guest house to stay in while in Port Gamble. There was wifi available but worked in only certain parts of the house, but it was still available which was great to look up what to do while travelling the area.

So this is a review of my experience here though we didn't stay there…read more It is a great historical example of a waterfront hotel built in the late 19th century during the building boom here when Port Townsend was competing with the whole west coast to be a terminus port for trade and economic boom. The railroad never came but the sailors did so this was the brothel, bar, and sailor trade on the waterfront where the respectable affluent families built their Victorian homes above. So glad that further economic boom didn't tear down this cool old buildings and so much of the structures of all kinds around town! We were having a local tourist day from our place across Admiralty inlet with our big dog. While walking the front street before we could notice a lovely older lady was welcoming us and our boy and very happy to see our pup. She was just so much a great ambassador of their business and very engaging that we all enjoyed the encounter. The front entrance decorated well and nice plants in boxes. She had so many dog friendly advice to give us without asking about Port Townsend in general and recommended local dining choices. Not asked for but in hindsight it reminded me of what you'd expect from your concierge at a nice hotel while on vacation. We really enjoyed chatting with her out at the entrance and makes me want to suggest that place for a fun stay. They have 7 rooms I guess that are dog friendly and If we "missed the boat back to Whidbey". Or something more planned, we would def consider staying at this former 19th century brothel turned hotel for sure! It reminds me of a smaller version of the same we stayed at once in San Francisco way up the hill that was not preserved so well. This whole town was designed and developed to compete with west coast 19th century seaports for trade and commerce and it shows. But i think that the thought that railroads would bring prosperity here has left us with survivors of this bygone era!! I'd recommend considering this a a great waterfront stay in this town as it's very convenient and worthwhile!

We were headed to Sooke Harbor, BC for a much-needed, long weekend. Imagine our disappointment after driving 2+ hours from our home in Kirkland to the Black Ball Ferry in Port Angeles, only to find there was no room for us on the only afternoon ferry to Victoria!! Note: we learned a valuable lesson - make reservations if you want onboard!! Our spirits dashed, we began to formulate Plan B after canceling our reservation at Sooke Harbor. We searched the interweb for hotels or lodges in the vicinity and came across the Bond Retreat Ranch. After finding other places booked solid or not yet open for the season, we were very relieved when Tess said we could have the Cottage for the weekend! We headed straight to the Ranch where we were greeted by the congenial Tess and her sidekick, Goofy the hound dog. She took us on a quick tour of the Ranch - a lovely, well-maintained spread, which includes 5 guest rooms with the B&B, a large pasture for the two resident horses, a cute wedding chapel, covered patio for gathering, breakfast room made from a converted barn, pavilion for dancing, and several other outbuildings. Then we were escorted to our private little cottage with a cozy living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and a private yard with chairs, porch, picnic table, lots of trees and a nice view of the ranch. The B&B wasn't open for the season, but Tess was happy to put us up. All the buildings on the ranch were built by Morris, the 70 year-old owner and Tess' longtime partner. Morris bought the land when he was 18, logged the trees, milled the lumber and built it all himself, including their home on the premises. The workmanship is impressive and the entire place is clean, inviting, rustic and charming. The ranch is a lovely venue for a wedding, family reunion or group getaway. In season they have a nightly campfire and serve breakfast in the barn and patio. The Cottage was spotless - not a speck of dust or cobweb in sight! I found this very impressive considering we arrived off-season. The bed was so cozy - we slept like babies! There were lots of warm quilts and fluffy pillows to snuggle into. The kitchen has a fridge, sink, small range and is stocked with enough dishes, pans & utensils to prepare light meals. If you want to grill, there is one at the pavilion or they will bring one down to the Cottage. There is a book of local restaurant recommendations, some magazines about the area and an electric fireplace in the living room. What they don't have is a TV or wifi - so you are delightfully unplugged! The pavilion does have wireless if really needed (cell service on Verizon was sketchy at best). We spent two full days exploring the surroundings and east side of the Olympic National Park - Salt Creek State Park, Crescent Bay, Madison Falls, Hurricane Ridge, the Elwha Valley, Lake Crescent, Marymere Falls, the Lake Crescent Lodge, etc. We hiked a LOT! The weather was nice - our last day it was fantastic! We had a delicious dinner at the Alder Wood Bistro (highly recommended) and a crazy-good breakfast at the Oak Table Cafe, both in Sequim. We picked up some groceries at the Sunny Farms Country Store with its great selection of organic and local produce & meats, raw honey, etc. All of these are within 10 min of the Ranch. For our 2nd night we picnicked in the front yard, enjoying the vibrant, northwest skies for sunset. This was the best Plan B ever! We can't wait to come back and explore more of the area and hopefully spend another stay at the Ranch. Sadly, Morris & Tess are Looking to retire, so the Ranch is on the market. How I wish I had the youth and money to buy it! What a lovely piece of paradise. Fortunately, the Ranch will be open in the meantime and we highly recommend you check it out!
