This review is for the Jump Start Program. The program is for Dual Credit while still in high school. This program is made for Juniors and Seniors in high school. Public high school will have an advisor who can help direct your child into this program. It is also available to homeschoolers who qualify and pass the accuplacer for Math and English. My son has been taking a class here that qualifies for dual credit. That means it counts as high school credit and college credit. This is how many homeschoolers I know are getting an AA degree when they graduate high school. He has enjoyed taking classes here. I attended TMCC on and off since 2022. Unfortunately I don't study there anymore because I moved away, but it's a decent school for starting out. The financial aid office is very difficult to work with though, but that was the only problem I had. But I don't recommend going here if you have a disability because in my opinion the accommodations are practically useless. If you need extra time on assignments or tests, I recommend finding a different school because they don't offer those accommodations here. Despite everything I just said, I had a good experience and I recommend telhe summer bridge program if you're just entering college because it helped me adjust to college. read more

You obviously are completely oblivious to my concerns or the concerns of others otherwise you would have taken action to retract your fraudulent claim that you think I owe money for services not rendered. You only reached out to me two years later to collect money because the federal government retracted financial aid at the end of a semester that I never attended. They retracted the aid because they have the common sense to understand that if a service is not provided there is no need to provide financial support, you are too stupid to understand this basic concept. Your statement saying that you are willing to work with me is a joke, you are absolutely ignorant to my situation, I doubt that you even glanced at my account because you obviously have no clue what is going on. My case was escalated when your dumb staff started trying to collect money that I do not owe. What the hell are you talking about saying that you offer payment plans, you put my account immediately to collections without batting a lash or thinking twice. I already attempted options provided to me to include multiple routes of disputing through you and you useless collection agency. Your cashier office is a waste of time, they just told me to fill out dispute forms which I did and I highly doubt there was any consideration to my statements. You probably didn't read my request or even review my account because I immediately got a denial email. The only way this will be able to be settled and reach a resolution is for you to retract your fraudulent charges and advise your collection agency and the credit bureaus that this was a mistake. Otherwise I will continue to post all your wrong doings all over your website and other review platforms. You have until the end of September at which point I will also file with the Better Business Bureau and State Board Of Education. Now do we have an understanding of what you need to do or are you going to be thick headed and idiotic? Trust me when I say that filing with those two organizations will not be anywhere near the end. Your administration is horrible and I have already determined to have my children attend any other college and will never recommend you to anyone. The professors are great for the most part, with some egotistical exceptions. TMCC needs to hire more staff. They have horrible hours and service, and it is all together showing in how they conduct their business. It's bad enough that the school's parking lot is too small for their student pool but now it's extended farther than that. You can't book academic advising appointments for your life! They genuinely make it an actual challenge to book one due to the sheer amount of student-to-staff ratio. So, almost every time I try to book for classes it's always a challenge. You can't book over the phone, you can't book at certain times due to the volume of appointments. So, I have to actually go there in person or go online at a specific time to apply just for an advising appointment. I've never had these problems at a community college before.... read more

Disappointed with this institution of higher learning. Majority of my Professors are facilitators rather than teachers utilizing the online CANVAS system which they don't have to grade or provide little feedback on our work. Most of the in classroom lectures are from pre-made PowerPoints from third party sources. There's no preparation on their part for lectures. It's a shame colleges and universities are immune from audit from the Bureau of Consumer Protection Agency for selling customers (aka students) fraudulent products. I had an online English course last summer, and the instructor Lenaya Anderson didn't have office hours, refused to take phone calls despite her office number being listed on the syllabus, and every question I emailed her, she'd deflect back by asking "did you refer to the syllabus?" She took it personal and had a bias against me from that point forward and intentionally gave me a 89% for the course. I took the next level English course on campus last fall and received a 99%. Not because I performed better but the Professor actually taught the students which is a rarity on this campus. I appealed this decision to her boss, Natalie Russell the Dean of liberal arts. Since this wasn't a sexual harassment or equal opportunity case that would embarrass TMCC, Natalie supported her Professor. TMCC's trade schools on Edison way are good to go, so if you do attend this College, recommend that route instead of the Dandini campus. To end on a good note, this College is cheaper to attend than UNR, so it's a lesser evil. read more

The lack of things like support and humility results in a poor-value education from this school. Besides not being able to read, staff members do not take individual concerns into consideration, but they aggressively "justify" measures such as imposing unnecessary fees. Quite a bit of undeserving people (instead of genuinely qualified employees) seem to be working here. read more

TMCC has come a long way over the years. It has evolved into an EXCELLENT resource for Renoites to either get started on their college coursework (at the High School or Undergraduate level) in preparation of transferring to a 4-yr University as well as for Adults looking to build new skill sets in order to start a new career. A few years ago, I realized it was time to change my career path, and I went back to school for a second degree. I am so happy that I did. TMCC has excellent instructor-to-student ratios and classes are affordable. Parking at the Dandini campus is a bit of a cluster, but they're working on improving it. TMCC has really stepped up its game in recent years, excelling in Science, Health Science, and Technology programs. They are now even offering B.S. and B.AS. Degrees in Cyber-Physical Manufacturing, Dental Hygeine, Emergency Management and Homeland Security, and Logistics Operation Management. You get a lot of bang for your buck, with transferable credits to boot! The education I gained at TMCC absolutely prepared me for a new career that I am flourishing in. TBH, I would give my experience 4 stars, but they really seem to be leading the way in providing valuable trade educations to our community. And now that they've kicked it up a notch and are providing some Bachelor's degrees, they definitely have 5 stars in my book. Keep on rocking on, TMCC! Truckee Meadows Community College was a great stepping stone for me to get into UNR and 1st generation in my family to get a bachelor's degree. After I got out of the Marine Corps I wanted to go back to school and TMCC provided a great place to integrate back to in the civilian world. Also, once I graduated I wanted to go to UNR and finish up my bachelor degree there, which I eventually did. It was about 2007 when I went to school here and alot has changed. But TMCC provide a great place for me to learn how to become a student again. It was not without it challenges but I persevered. I also volunteer and participate in the club activities here. I highly recommend getting involved with the clubs or even working on campus. You will learn so much. Parking here is free and it is first come first served base. It does get hectic at the beginning of the semester. Keep that in mind. The tuition is competitive which was a great lure for me because I am cheap and poor Haha. But the education was good. I felt like it really helped me understand how to be a student again. They also have a great tutoring center, which if you are a student you should really take advantage of it. Their library is good as well. I have used the library many times for checking out books and studying sessions. All around good school for the price. Good teachers as well. When I say this is actually the worst school to every exist on planet earth I mean it. You'd have better luck going to a CC in the slums of Springfield Missouri. They have no communication, give you no guidance, you can set up an appointment with the counselor but they're usually booked up for months and don't alert you when sooner spots open up. They dropped me from my classes with no communication but still charged me hundreds for it. People in your classes won't want to be friends unless you look and act like them. The professors don't check up on you. Have taken multiple classes here and have only had one good professor- Eric Bullis. Prof Bullis if you're seeing this, you deserve better. Literally the worst school to ever exist and I can't stress that enough. Also just the energy there is disgusting. Terrible, terrible, terrible school.. read more

Our whole family has taken many classes from TMCC, including our two children who are in the high school program. It is an excellent college that works hard to support its students and staff. There are a lot of resources at the college to help, and everyone is approachable. In all of our courses we've found the professors to be knowledgeable. I am currently a student at the University of Nevada, Reno and I am planning on taking a winter course at TMCC for transfer. However, TMCC is the most unorganized and inefficient organization I have ever seen. I was having trouble logging into MyTMCC (where you register for classes), so I emailed the student support center where they were unable to help me and recommended that I call. The following day, I called the IT department asking for the information I needed to log in. They told me that I need my student ID number, which is different from my NSHE ID number. Unable to help (again), they asked me to call Admissions & Records. So I called, they told me the only way to get my student ID number is to use MyTMCC online (which I can't access) or to visit the campus. Three days later, I visit the campus and go to Admissions and Records. Here, they give me my "student ID number" which actually WAS the NSHE ID number I had all along. Then I visit the IT department where they tell me my account is inactive and I need to reapply for a second admission to the school. Four days of my life, and a lot of frustration, could have been saved if TMCC had one of the following: 1). an online system that recovered usernames via email like every other system out there 2). a staff that understood the information they are sharing with their students Long story short, TMCC runs a very disorganized ship. While it is convenient for quick classes, I would hope that no one ever needs to reach their administration for help because it will be stressful and unnecessary. read more

I decided to take a class at TMCC. I applied online, and quickly received a letter advising me of my admission. Just as quickly, I lost that letter, so I had none of the info I needed to enroll in classes. With one phone call, Michelle in the Welcome Center solved all of my problems. I have always preferred the professors at TMCC over those at UNR. And i've taken quiiiiite a few courses at each. Positives: -Small class sizes -Lots of individual attention -Professors with nothing to "prove'" - no egos -Focus on real-world application -Much more down-to-Earth -Efficient and effective programs designed to get you in and out and on your career path asap. -Up-to-date and well-designed compact campus -Parking: can be a bit of a hassle at times if you have a class mid-day, but still blows UNR's parking issues out of the water. -YOU LEARN MORE. I've taken the gambit here: nutrition, calculus, biology, core humanities, creative writing; I remember MORE from the courses I took here than I do from the courses i took at UNR. Better teaching...period. Negatives: -Location. Ugh. -Location of their South Reno campus too. Ugh. -Fewer places to go to study. -Fewer options for meals. Recommendation: -if you're graduating high school and you don't yet know what you want to do, spend a year here and take a variety of classes. Go nuts. Narrow down your focus a bit for a LOT less money...and then move onto UNR with a better idea of what you want to do. tmcc is a good place to start, i got through my classes and received my AA degree! however, tmcc academic advisors DO NOT warn you about filing appeals. example: time management, and low gpa below 2.0. with this being said, if you have to file an appeal, and you have gone through fasfa for a pell grant, you cannot receive that grant until you file the appeal. i have one class left to take to receive another degree, and an academic advisor decided to tell me this last minute before my class starts. in which i did not know that i cannot get my pell grant, and that i have to py out of pocket to take my LAST class. my summer class starts in two weeks, and they just now decide to notify me of this situation. could have told me a month in advance; i have been speaking to financial aid back and forth touching base about my pell grant and they did NOT even bring this up to me! instead i get a nasty email informing me about the appeal that needs to be filed. with that being said, tmcc financial aid and academic advisors are keeping me from completing my last class so i can graduate all because they could not reach out to me, and tell me themselves about what is going on. read more

I adored my professors. I adored my class mates. I pulled a great g.p.a., but had to drop a couple classes since I didn't have enough concentration due to several deaths in the family. However I originally signed up for the Cosmetology Program, which half way through the state cancelled our funding because the college was illegally using school loans to pay for it and we found out it was not an accredited program legally capable of accepting school loans for payment or for a degree program. So I was removed from the program since I could not come up with the remaining funds to continue with the Cosmetology Program. I feel the school cheated me along with several others out of our money and we are still having to pay back the school loans that we borrowed and paid for the program. Yet we did not get what we paid for. This school should lose their rights to teach and the professors should move to a school that is loyal. read more

Once apon a time I did my freshman and some of my sophomore coursework here before transferring to UNR. It was great, since the classes cost much less and the campus is more centralized, making the stroll between classes easy (opposed to taking lower level classes at UNR where you will need to walk from college to college over a larger university property). The professors are friendly and helpful. There are also satellite campuses making it easier for working adults and people without cars to take classes. Just recently, we rented a classroom from TMCC. For $50/night you get a large classroom that can seat 60 people, with audio/visual equipment and wifi that should hook up to most instructor laptops and tablets. There was some audio trouble in the classroom and a technician was unavailable after hours. I'd rent a classroom, or take a class from this college again. read more

I earned an Associates Degree from this school a few years ago and found the school to be very good.The campus is safe and you can take classes online or in many other areas throughout Reno/Sparks area. At the time I went to this school, the professors were very good and it was easy for me to get into the classes I needed. I found that most of the instructors and professors were knowledgeable and cared about their jobs. The downside to this school is the format they have the class schedule. I found it hard to complete a two year degree in two years do to the format of how they offer classes. You have to really be on the schedule and know what classes to take months before you can register for classes. Additionally I found it to be really hard to work full or part time and go to school. A lot of the classes they offer are only during the day and not at night. The major downside to this school is the parking and costs. It cost me four times the amount of money to go to this school compared to a California community college, even with in state tuition. I found that the education was good, but it wasn't necessarily worth the extra costs. Parking is an issue at any school, but it seems that this college parking spot availability hasn't kept up with their enrollment. Generally 90% plus students drive cars to school and need a place to park, there seems to be a lapse in new parking that is convenient, efficient, and safe. Especially with state budget cuts people are going to be going to this school more because it is the best choice for a dollar spent. If you are going to class you should probably allow an extra 20 minutes to drive around looking for a spot to park. I find the extra fees they charge to be higher then the average for community colleges. Additionally they do not offer a student health clinic and other student social services like UNR and a lot of other schools do. read more

I decided to write a review after I had been here for a while. I gotta say for a small campus it's very nice. I really enjoy being a student here. They offer a lot of resources like free tutoring, which is something to definitely take advantage of. I got help in the beginning of the semester with an essay. My one complaint is they REALLY need to stress the importance of the accuplacer to new students. I thought it was just a test to see where you're at academically, I didn't realize that it would put me into remedial classes. I had to take read/eng 95. I'm actually quite good at English, while the class gave me useful tools, I felt that I was too smart for the class. I hope that doesn't sound too incredibly rude. Along with one other student, we progressed to 101, skipping all of the other remedial classes. Yay me! I would definitely recommend TMCC to any person seeking higher education. read more

I obtained my Associates of Applied Science in Graphic Communications here and 95% of the teachers that I took were more then helpful. Smaller classrooms make for more personal one-on-one time with your teachers so you can elaborate on any question you may have about the specific subject. Of course you get that teacher who is either way burnt out or never made it in the professional world and now teaches . . . no names and that can be hard for a student to endure because they are not there to teach, they are there for the paycheck, bummer. But in my particular case, as well as the students who have experienced "Mr. Ren and Stimpy" we couldn't avoid taking this teacher who was there because his degree helped the program, lame read more

I love attending school here! They have a great dual enrollment option for high school students. The campus is beautiful. Like any school, if you pick the right teachers, then the experience is better. There's so many resources at TMCC, and many of the administrators really do care. My wife is getting some additional certifications at TMCC and all around it is a good community college with many courses and I think almost all of their courses are available online. The instructors according to my wife are helpful and easy to work with. The attitude is that the instructors work with you and students don't work for the instructor. read more

I got my AA from here and I have assisted my brother-in-law get started here. Even when we had a hiccup, staff always was communicating and got what we needed. Teachers are great and with the smaller class size than the university, they were more personable. Classes are cheaper too. So there's not much to complain about this school besides parking sucks but since every school has sucky parking, I won't deduct a star. read more

The Spanish class ( SPAN ) is not good. The teacher is not prepared at all and everybody is complaining about the class.

I've gotten my Associates of Science from TMCC, and I have to say I really did enjoy my time there. I've only had maybe two professors out of my ENTIRE two and a half years at TMCC that were just completely unhelpful, but I still came out of both classes with good grades. Most of the professors are incredibly helpful, and there to make sure you succeed, not for research. Due to the smaller class sizes, professors get to know you better, and can make more time for you if need be. There are plenty of quiet places to study and just chill if you try the upper levels of the Vista Building, or the top level of Red Mountain. The class times are generally okay, provided you enroll immediately, and I like the fact that they have MORE class times than places like UNR. (They have classes until almost 10PM at TMCC) The Financial Aid office is run by students who, in the last year or so, have absolutely NO idea what they're doing. If you have to deal with them, ask for a supervisor every time. That's how things get done. Otherwise paperwork gets lost or filed incorrectly. Admissions and Records is hit or miss, some of their employees are great, and some are ridiculously inept. The food on campus can be a little pricey as well, so if I'm hungry I just head down to McDonalds or somewhere similar. Parking isn't bad, but sometimes there's quite a walk to your classes. Definitely better than having to pay a bunch for parking, like at UNR. ;) Overall, I loved my time at TMCC, the professors and most of the staff are helpful and pleasant. read more

I am former sales professional switching lanes and going back to finish my college education to become a teacher. I just want to commend TMCC for the great service I have received in beginning this new journey. Going back to college after 20 plus years is not easy, but I am completely satisfied with the welcoming environment I have experienced. I especially want to commend Mr. Jose Torres-Jasso in the admissions and records office. He was the first person I spoke to and was able to answer every single one of my questions. He was thorough with all the information. I must have taken over an hour of his time. He also walked me over to the computer and helped me fill out my application for admission and just like that it was done. He offered me his business card and encouraged me to contact him with any additional questions I may have. I am just amazed at the knowledge this young man holds and I hope I will be able to provide the same for my students in my future career. I know that I have made the right choice by starting at TMCC. TMCC is an excellent community college to get an associates degree and to explore careers and take a lot of classes before finding what you like be. It also has the benefit of being one of the very few places in the world where you can study geothermal energy and get a renewable energy degree. It is affordable, has small class sizes and great professors. My European history teacher, Dr. Joseph Gonzalez, used to teach at really prestigious universities such as Oxford and Cambridge. Wade Hampton is also a really good professor I'd recommend. TMCC is a great school to go to after high school and finish two years for less money than a 4 year institution. The only downsides are the limited food selection, spread out campuses and limited study areas. But I've learned a lot from all the courses I took here, ranging from nutrition, core humanities, English, geology, wilderness survival to yoga. There's also a great student government association that's helping to make campus more fun and provide activities and opportunities beyond the classroom. They're on the Dandini campus which has the best mountain views out of all the campuses (right between the vista buildings). read more

I would defiantly not recommend TMCC to anyone out of high school who is looking for the college feel. It is great in some ways, but horrible in many ways. Overall it was a disappointing experience for me while I was at TMCC. Pros to TMCC -Smaller class size -Awesome professors - Cost -Location 3 campuses around town - Easy access -Computer lab with printing -english department -counseling center -tutoring center Cons to TMCC -Horrible parking -administration is not friendly -math department --math skills center big waste of time and money -academic advisors -not a lot of quiet study areas -TMCC is eliminating a lot of in class classes and offering them online only -Not a whole lot of choice for classes -classe fill up fast -accuplacer My recommendation would be to attend TMCC because its cheaper, but watch your back and be on top of things like studying for accuplacer, visiting academic advisors often because the online catalogs give out false information,register for classes EARLY and get to class EARLY, and if you do place into skills center try to place out that class is ridiculous and tons of students are jiffed college because they can not place out of that class. read more
