We came here on a Saturday afternoon soon after opening and was a bit disappointed at first. One, there was barely 10 people there and two, there seemed to be way more drink stands than food. All was not lost, however, when people started to pour in an hour later and we wandered around with an IPA in our hands. My boyfriend and I went to different trucks and shared our purchases. The best bite belonged to a pulled pork bahn mi sandwich from Due South that tasted as good as it looked. Meaty, rich but very well balanced. We also tried a meal from the satay truck and was also impressed. I would come back if I were in the area. It's a nice way to sample diff grub if you're with a group of people. We heard that it can get pretty rowdy after a game lets out. Maybe that's why there were 50 drink vendors. read more

Finally made it to Truckeroo this year (went once last summer), but it's just not the same for me. The first time I went, I had such a blast and couldn't wait to come back. I recently heard that they had to scale it down due to re-development in the area, but goodness, it was just way too congested and not enjoyable for me. A group of us came from Jazz in the gardens and we didn't get there until about 8:00. I'm not sure of the process of selecting which food trucks get to be at Truckeroo, but I wasn't personally impressed by any of the ones there. The lines for these trucks were super long! My friend was starving so we tried to look for a short line and decided to try capital chicken and waffle since their line didn't seem as long as some of the others. I've seen this truck around and figured I might as well give them a try. So after waiting almost 25 minutes (yes I was counting), we were able to place our orders. We both ordered the chicken and fries. My friend got a side of mac n cheese. Then began another lengthy waiting period! Sigh...finally we got our meal. Looked like regular ole chicken fingers and they pretty much were actually. Not impressed at all - was very bland and dry. Good thing I wasn't starving. OMG, the mac n cheese was disgusting - probably the worst I've ever tasted (not exaggerating). Forget trying to find a place to sit at this point. Nothing in sight!! We caught up with the others in our group and walked around. Some ventured off to get drinks. I ran into some folks I hadn't seen in awhile so that was good. Unless they find a different venue and a larger selection of food trucks, I'm in no hurry to go back to Truckeroo! read more

So I finally made it to Truckeroo and glad that I did. It was smaller than I expected and I heard that the small size is due to the nearby construction. My friend and I arrived around 7:30 pm and it was still pretty packed which is understood. It was a hot day when we went and I'm sure most people wanted to go as the sun went down. It was hard to find a seat but eventually we found a spot to sit down and enjoy our food. My friend got a special from a food truck serving Thai food and I sampled a little bit of it and it was delicious. I ended up getting a bulgogi rice box and I really enjoyed my food as well. I capped things off with some dessert from Goodies and I was a happy girl. I definitely would like to try the cookie truck and lobster roll truck next time. DC Slices looked yummy as well but I just had pizza the day prior and wasn't in the mood for pizza again. I look forward to going back. read more

Named after what I say when a cute guy introduces himself as a truck driver... "Trucker? Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh!" Then the fun begins. And it was fun, because I drove all the way from Buffalo to Pittsburgh to DC just to attend this food truck festival. I was all up for it, especially the Brazilian food truck (Mighty Dog & Acai) which did not let me down, except price wise. And one thing I noticed about Truckeroo is, the prices of all the food trucks is somewhat obscene. Trucks are supposed to be able to charge less because they don't have the same overheads. In Buffalo and DC, they must have forgotten this premise. The other thing I didn't like about it were the extremely long lines. I suppose that happens at a lot of food truck festivals, but we had a 45-minute wait for one of these trucks, and well over 20 mins at several others. And that was nearly at closing time. But overall it's a brilliant concept, had some great Laotian, amazing Ice Cream from Orange Cow, some great Brazilian, and excellent Arepas. And if you do something round the back of the Bullpen with a trucker and end up getting pregnant, then it won't be long before you give birth to a few "Trugrats." read more

A five star event it could have been 4 stars due to the port a potty issues but the food made up for any mishaps!!!! I love food trucks. I work downtown and along 7th st NW there's always delicious food trucks daily. So when this was taking place I cancelled all my Friday night plans. I strongly recommend taking metro. Green line get off at Navy Yard, by Nats stadium. Bring state ID, for drinks and best believe your going to need a drink once you enter, brace yourself, it's a like a mob. My friends got a po boy sandwich from Canjunator, I went straight to the Daquiri truck for water lol. Then first it was the Pitt truck but they announced only wings and fries and no that not what I wanted. I went to the DC pollo truck and that's where I fell into a food induced coma. I got an empanada, amazing!!! Chicken and rice amazing!!! Frozen custard truck amazing!!! Captain cookie: the best cookies ever!' I wanted surf side but the lines were longer than when Jordan's came out and then they sold out ): Don't wear high heels. Wear sneakers as the concrete has a lot of holes. The actual grounds of Truckeroo definitely expanded, which is great. However, seating still is hard to find because the place gets sooo packed. Not enough benches for everybody. I went right after work, via metro (literally across from the Navy Yard/Ballpark station; super convenient). My tip is to go early; arriving at 5-6pm over 8 or 9 makes a HUGE difference. Soon as night fell, the people looked packed like sardines, and the lines grew from 10 mins to an hour wait... Luckily, not a lot of people were there 5:45pm. I was able to spot PhoWheels quickly, in which I've been waiting to try, and the line was super short and quick! I was a very happy camper when I got my pork belly and musubi tacos. YUM. (I had to stand at a ledge to eat, but it was ok!) One thing I dislike is that the trucks aren't allowed to sell drinks, and ya gotta purchase any beverage at the Bullpen. $3 for a bottle of soda or water, and $8 upwards for alcoholic beverages. A single margarita is enough to get you buzzed, though! OVERALL: Cool event, food prices weren't too high/some weren't different from what the trucks would usually charge on a normal day. FOOD TRUCK PARTY in DC April through October. Last one this year will be 10/31! LOCATION: Right next to the ballpark, on 1/2 and M Street SE, right next to the Navy Yard Metro station. If you are a tourist like us, don't forget that there is a 1/2 St NW and a 1/2 St NE, so make sure you know which way to walk if you are getting picked up. Sounds silly but we started walking the wrong way after the ballgame the night before to try to find 1/2 St. SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE Open 11a-11p. We were on vacation in DC for only a few days in September and took the Metro here in between museums. The kids got to eat what they wanted (grilled cheese from Big Cheese, pizza from DC Slices, cupcakes from some other truck) and I got to eat what I wanted (Rito Loco, Woodshed BBQ). This was perfect for us because during lunchtime it wasn't that crowded and we found seats under the shade. DRINKS FROM THE BULLPEN Tip: BYOBeverage! The one thing I didn't like was that all the beverages had to be purchased from the Bullpen--the individual trucks don't sell drinks. So after we grabbed all our food and plopped ourselves down, I had to leave the kids by themselves (because I wasn't giving up our seats!) while I went back to get the drinks. Not a big deal but I would rather just buy the drinks at the nearest truck. RESTROOMS We found them at the end closest to the ballpark. Porta pottys with foot-pump your own water. Truckeroo never fails to please! More than enough food options for even the most diverse and finicky group as well as drinks and live music. If only it were more frequent than once a month! One tip. Being a 12hr event, trucks sometimes run out of basic supplies like plasticware and napkins, so advise taking some with you just in case. My husband has become a food truck fanatic ever since we moved to DC. Instead of having the same trucks parked at the same location day after day like the ones in NYC, DC enforced a lottery system where only certain trucks are allowed at a location on specific day of the week. Even with rotating trucks, my husband had yet to taste and experience them all - Truckuroo was the perfect opportunity! With more than 20 food trucks to choose from, my husband and I had a hard time deciding which ones to invest our time and belly for. With this event only occurring once per month, we decided to go with trucks we knew didn't have an actual store and ones that had ever shown up near his work. We went with two of the most popular trucks and that was all the time we had for. Most trucks sold out or had wrapped up by the time we finished standing in line for the second truck. There weren't much spaces to stand and we never found seats to enjoy our food. We came on a cooler night on an early Fall month. I can't imagine it this packed on a hot, summer day. It was definitely an experience. But I think I would leave the food truck chasing to my husband during his lunch hours and take back my Friday date nights in the comfort of my own home. read more

When summertime hits that means Truckeroo has officially started. This is my 3rd year attending and every year has been a blast. This is a free event with live music, local food trucks, foodies in every corner, and perfect weather what else can you ask for? It's held a few times in the summer into fall. It's located at The Bullpen near the Nat's Park Stadium off of the Navy Yard metro station. I noticed there were less food trucks at this event than in years past. Truckeroo extended out to where the buildings are now built so there were more too choose from then but it seemed limited this time around. KBBQ Box has always been a favorite of mine and I ordered a bulgogi taco combo. I love tacos and bulgogi so it was a must get! They also had a Korean fried chicken combo on the menu which I was tempted to get but I didn't want to put all my eggs in one basket. Round of applause for my 2nd food truck: Tapas Truck! The owner recommended the corn fritters and it was freaking amazing. The cilantro lime aioli sauce drizzled all over the fritters completed the delicious snack. The night would never be complete without a dessert. It's such a shame that I forgot the name of the truck but I ordered a chocolate covered banana with caramel sea salt. It was a little small for the price but you can never go wrong with the pairing of sweet and salty. If you need something fun to do this summer, I recommend experiencing Truckeroo at least once in your life! read more

I think that Truckeroo is a great concept! It's often hard for one to try many food trucks at once, and Truckeroo makes that possible. Admittedly, this event was quite small; I have heard it was bigger in years past, though. The food was quite good, but didn't really fell that special. I tried the Farmer Joe crepe at Crepe Love, and it was flavorful and delicious, just pretty pricey at $9. I also tried the Thai Tea and vanilla ice cream from Westray's Ice cream. The flavors were pretty on point but the ice cream's texture was definitely not ideal--too grainy. My friends tried the: poutine- not good, chicken empanada from Peruvian Brothers- average, pork slider from Tapas Truck- "amazing", cookie sandwich from Captain Cookie- best thing ever, tacos-average. We also thought it was wayyy too loud with the band playing the entire time. You can barely hear yourself think, let alone what your friends are saying to you. Overall, it was a fun night, but I probably won't be back again. read more

Truckeroo was a blast! I decided to head over with a couple of my co workers. The live musical paired with all the people watching possibilities made for a combination I didn't want to miss. The live band was pretty good to bad I couldn't remember their name. They did a bunch of covers and that's never a bad thing. Now for the food I wasn't really that impressed. I only sampled two trucks "Pittsburgh Ricks" and "The Orange Cow". I decided to get the teriyaki wings which was a bold choice because I'm normally a plain old BBQ kind of guy. The flavor just wasn't doing it for me. It's partially my fault to because why in the world would you go to a food truck to get wings. I was looking for the most low carb option I could find. The orange cow was decent I got half a pint of cookies and cream ice cream against better judgement **cough Hannah cough** the ice cream was just ok I came to this event expecting to be wowed and I utterly wasn't. I heard chatter of "it was way better last year" or "man they have less trucks now" All I can go by is what I experienced. Would I go back... certainly there is too much potential for me to let them slide this easily. 3 stars from me just for the ambiance alone. read more

I had been dying to visit Truckroo..! After all the hulbaloo in my work life, I finally managed to tear myself away from it all and got to here at around 7:45 pm.. I know.. just around an hur before hey started to close... But guess what.. I did not find snakey lines (or too many of them may I say), the environment was awesome! The live band playing.. I have to give it to them.. they sounded good, even on that goddamned awful music system! I couldn't stop laughing at the line for the portable pottys (:p) and had fun watching people playing games, lying down, behaving drunk, making out.etc etc.. made me feel like I was at a late 4th of July party! Now for the food- Fojol Bros : Lived up to the hype. I hated the fact that they had no chicken on their menu, but the veggie options were great nonetheless! Sauca: The Mumbai Butter Chicken was amazing.. loved it! Big Cheese: The midnight moon.. ahhh! loved it.The Peanut Banana freeze was just so-so and the watermelon salad was yumm!! (I think this might have een my favvvv food truck after all- I am a kid still.. give me grill cheese and I will love u!) Sweetbites: Ugh.. the brownie was goddamned awful!:( The cupcake icing was too sweet and the cake itself was just so so DC SLices - They were out of their bbq ones by the time we got there.The regular cheese and veggie pizza slices were like any regular place.. nothing thrilling! All in all, had tonnes of fun.. enjoyed every minute,,.. the food the people, the happiness.. Loved the concept.. At long last, I had the Friday off so I made way to the Bullpen for Truckeroo. I got there right at high noon, so I was expecting a large lunch crowd. It was crowded to be sure. The Red Hook Lobster truck had a very long line, but overall, it certainly wasn't as bad as I'd assumed it would be at lunchtime since quite a few trucks had little or no line. That's even taking into consideration that the Hula Girl truck hadn't even opened by noon, although its line grew quickly once its window popped open. The positives? I liked that it was free admission. It should be free. However, in this day in age where practically nothing is free, it's nice to see they had enough sense to do this at no charge. Whether by design or dumb luck, there were a good variety of food trucks. I was wondering if Ko-Mex fusion tacos or pizza trucks were going to be overrepresented. No worries there! Finally, the venue was easy to access and spacious enough to handle the crowd. Disappointments? There were a few. The Bullpen was the only one allowed to sell drinks. While $3 wasn't exactly highway robbery for a bottle of water, it was a lot more than what many of the trucks would normally charge. José Andrés' Pepe truck was a no-show. It may have arrived later, but it certainly there as advertised while I was there. Not enough tables. I can eat standing up, but it would be nice to put my food down on something. In the end, I checked that box off on my "to do" list. Not bad. Truthfully, the number and variety of trucks around Farragut Square around lunchtime is about equal to Truckeroo, so this almost seems to be a non-event. Perhaps, Truckeroo would be a more interesting concept if it ran from 5pm-midnight only? read more

I finally had my first Truckeroo experience this past Friday the 13th! We got there around 5:30PM, and it wasn't too crowded. It got pretty crowded when we left around 7PM. Drinks (soda, water, beer, margaritas, Redbull and vodka) can only be purchased in the front, unless it's a food truck that specifically only sells drinks. Red Hook Lobster: This was probably the second most popular food truck. You can choose from Connecticut or Maine style rolls. (both are $15) The bread was buttery but the actual sandwich was pretty small, and wasn't filling. We got one of each and I liked the Connecticut style more, which had more seasoning. CapMacDC: Gourmet pasta wasn't my cup of tea that night considering it was 80+ degrees outside, but my boyfriend insisted because he loves mac'n'cheese. We ordered the Classic Mac'N'Cheese (with cheddar, pimento, cheez-it crumble) with "balls out," which are meatballs. The meatballs were good, but the actual pasta tasted pretty plain. Hulagirl: I absolutely love me some Hawaiian food. They serve sandwiches, salads, and platters. My boyfriend and I shared the Sampler Plate Platter, which came with teriyaki steak, chicken, and pork, 2 scoops of rice, with your choice of mac salad or tossed salad. (We opted for the mac salad) There was also soy sauce and Sriracha on the side for you to add onto your plate. I liked the chicken the most and the mac salad was pretty flavorful. For $12, you definitely get generous portions! That Cheesecake: This was my least favorite truck! We ordered a raspberry swirl and a frozen chocolate dipped plain cheesecake, and both were pretty plain. The chocolate was way too rich for my taste and cancelled out the plain cheesecake flavor. Although most of the trucks accepted credit cards, you should definitely bring cash instead to ensure faster service. I would love to go again to try more of the food trucks! read more

What a fun event! Located near the Nationals' stadium, this place is so cool! Offers a variety of food trucks. Not many options for vegetarians/vegans, but you all can find something! The atmosphere is very hip. They've got live music going too, so feel free to dance away with your friends. You'll find a variety of drinks here, many beers, daiquiris, whatever, you name it! I am sad this place is only around every first Friday! I wish it was everyday, I love it! read more

Cool event with a good variety of food trucks to satiate and lingering hunger you might have. Coming from NOVA, it's a pain in the ass to stalk high profile DC food trucks via twitter, so this is a good opportunity to cross some off your list and try some new stuff out. I like that they had live music, a beer concession, lots of picnic style seating, and plenty of food truck enthusiasts. TaKorean was underwhelming. Fojol bros. also underwhelming with their curry. Best one I tried was this pink cupcake truck that had these succulent and subtly flavored key lime treats. Yum. Parking is a biatch down there, but there is some metered street parking if you look hard. For the faint of heart, take metro. read more

First time here last night. Great atmosphere and good music. 2 bands are played. One during the day and one at night. I had the Korean bulogi taco and it came with a salad and chicken wing. Absolutely delicious. My friend had a pastrami sandwich from the Pittsburg ricks truck. It was huge enough for two people. Then we had dessert at the goodies truck. Rum cake with custard vanilla ice scream like a sandwich. Everything was great from drinks to desserts. I heard this year due to construction it's a little smaller, but they still had enough trucks for pretty much everything you crave for. I recommend getting there during the day cause starting from dinner to later the crowds start to roll in. read more

Overall experience of Truckeroo is deserving of 4 stars, but in terms of the actual food trucks represented and how happy-eroo they made me brings it down to 3. I loved being there and having access to 20 different food trucks that you would normally have to chase down all over DC. I didn't love, however, the insanely long lines. Definitely go before 6 if you can, because you'll wait at least 30 minutes for anything in between 7 and 9. Trucks worth trying: El Floridano: Pan con lechon pork sandwich deliciousness. Pork chunk sub with a little bit of spicy mayo and grilled onions and all for $8. Yes please. Trucks that were terrible: Red Hook lobster: $15 for a cold, flavorless lobster roll? It was terrible, save your money and go to Luke's lobster instead. Tacokorean: I've been to this truck twice. First time is was unbearably salty, next time ridiculously bland.These guys just can't get it right. Trucks that were ok: BBQ bus dc: 3 meats picnic plate for $15, good plate of BBQ meats with some good brisket. Expensive for $15 but much better than Red Hook. Overall though, I would definitely go back to try out some of the other food trucks that stop by. This was my first Truckeroo and, despite some foodie disappointments (see my previous individual reviews of the trucks I visited) and one particular encounter with an extremely rude and extremely inebriated young woman, I had a fun time and would absolutely be willing to go to Truckeroo again. Truckeroo is a gathering of local food trucks, some more familiar than others, at the Fairgrounds next to the ball park. Conveniently, the Navy Yard metro is directly across the street, which is perfect because parking, from what I hear, is nonexistent to very minimal. Admission is free and you simply just pay for any drinks/food ordered. Let's start with the drinks.....beer selection is very minimal at the Bullpen and way overpriced, between $8-$9. Options included: Miller Lite, Coors Lite, Redds Apple Ale, Blue Moon, and maybe one other less-than-savory option. Little did I know at first, but word to the wise, there was a small vendor selling draft beers for $9 but much better quality, DC Brau Corruption and Peroni. They also have margaritas, daqs, red bull/vodka, etc. There were about 25 trucks at the event, but I still didn't feel like there was much variety to choose from. There were lots of taco options, lots of BBQ options, and only two dessert specific trucks. Many of the trucks were the "regulars"-Red Hook Lobster Truck, CapMac, The Big Cheese, Captain Cookie, and DC Slice. Another friendly tip: check out the website (or facebook) before the event as the truck listings will be posted prior to Truckeroo. Seating is first come first serve at any benches or picnic tables you can find available. It definitely got more crowded as the night went on. The event is pet friendly and family friendly, and there were ample amounts of both dogs and kids at Truckeroo. The live music was decent being that it was a mostly 90s cover band. I didn't see any of the games that were described on the website, but I also didn't really go beyond where the food trucks were located. Truckeroo is typically the third Friday of each month (with the exception of July when it is the second) from April-September or October. If you are looking for a low key, chill night with free live music and food trucks, I would definitely recommend visiting a Truckeroo! read more

A great place to find a large selection of food trucks all in the same area. Literally right across from the Navy Yard metro, so it's very easy to get to. Come hungry and with cash and you'll have great time. Some places accept cards but why go through that hassle. You can find everything from Korean bbq to cupcakes and ice cream to Mexican or seafood...the choices are endless so you're bound to find something you like. Skip the beer and go for the frozen daiquiri truck. They are delicious and strong, and you can also get an extra shot for $3 more. There's also live music and everyone's friendly. I definitely talked to a few people and got great recommendations on which food trucks to hit next. Lastly, come early. I went straight after work and got there around 6, and there was a decent crowd, no lines. However, I made the mistake of getting one thing and sitting down. An hour went by and I attempted to get more food and the place was packed with lines at every other food truck! So if you get there early, get a couple things then find seat and enjoy. read more

I was so excited to hear about this festival since one of the top things I miss about Vegas is StrEATS - a second Saturday evening to late night festival of food trucks, local artists, and local bands in Downtown Vegas. Truckeroo was, well, oh so sadly, not even slightly close to the awesomeness of StrEATS. Maybe I went too early to get a real feel for the environment? We were there from about 5:30pm to 8:00pm. (Truckeroo lasts from 11:00am to 11:00pm!) From what I experienced, the bands were bleh, the crowd was bleh, and it just wasn't all that awesome in terms of ambiance. However, all that said, there were tons of freakin' food trucks! And some were pretty good too. This was definitely a great way to run around and sample lots of trucks. I ate from 7 of them! And the concession stands (Truckeroo takes places in the The Bullpen outside of Nationals stadium) were serving beer. I was definitely a happy girl. So all in all, I'll be here every month. If you like food trucks, this is THE place to hang and get your grub on. read more

I love food trucks and I love them even more when they're all gathered in one place! The downside of having your favorite food spot on wheels is that sometimes it can become a chore just to track and hunt it down on the streets. The only issue I had with Truckeroo is the no outside beverage policy. I had a full bottle of water in my bag which they made me toss out at the door. I can understand soda, juice, coffee, alcohol, etc. which the Truckeroo vendors sell (alcohol was sold at the bar), but water should be an exception. Even the ballpark allows fans to take in bottles of water. Other than that, I wish Truckeroo can continue on into the winter months. Big tent, anyone? read more

I went this past Friday during the evening (7-8ish) and it was packed! There is almost a line for every food truck. I'd recommend going at odd hours just to beat the lunch/dinner rush. This event is located conveniently right outside of the navy yard metro station. Also, that line out the entrance is to get wrist bands for +21 who want to drink. For those just going for the food you can walk right in (Free admission!) DC Empanadas- El Matador with chorizo, potatoes and spices. What's great about these empanadas is that it's fried. Makes the skin of the empanadas so crispy. I think because of the chorizo filling, it was a little too oily for my tastes. (Cash only) BBQ Bus - Shredded Angus beef sandwich (10.50). Comes in an average store bought bun but the shredded beef was juicy and delectable. It looked as if it was braised in a tomato sauce which added enough acidity to help bread down the beef. There were a couple larger/dry end bits that were difficult to eat but other than that, it was tasty. On the side, it comes with a small slaw which was too vinegary/sour. Truckeroo, as I describe it to the friends I try to rope into coming along with me, is a monthly spring-summer food truck festival, where 20-or-so food trucks come out to the Navy Yards fairgrounds with live music and a beer garden. Convinced yet? DC is big on the food truck life, and Truckeroo is great because you get a lot of trucks AND it is right there when you get out the Navy Yards/Ballpark metro station. There isn't exactly a HUGE variety of trucks there. I saw two Korean taco trucks, some Mediterranean trucks, some BBQ trucks... but it's still more variety than you would get in their regular locations where you'd only find maybe 5-7 trucks at a time. A benefit of having multiple trucks for certain kinds of cuisine is that, for example, if you want Korean tacos and don't want to wait in one massive line, you can choose one of two still-rather-long lines instead! Yay. It's a seriously fun time. Bring your friends, bring your family, bring your significant other, bring your dog. Come out and sample the food trucks, you won't regret it. It's a good environment, even though you can't sit unless you're really lucky. Music is fun, food is good, drinks are good... ... but my friends and I left because once it got dark, we started noticing giant bugs crawling all over the ground and it freaked us out. If you're looking for food trucks and fun, then Truckeroo is the event for you! I love food trucks (frankly I joined Twitter so that I could keep tabs on where some of my favorites would be on any given day), so imagine my happiness at an event that hosts multiple vendors all in once place! Add music, corn hole, beer and you've got yourself a Friday evening out! And, let me tell you, the food trucks are no longer your questionable "roach coaches" but rather delicious meals on wheels, providing gourmet food on the go. And the selection runs the gamut of Mexican, Mediterranean, Hawaiian, Southern, BBQ, tapas, pizza, comfort food, ice cream, cheescake, and on and on! Truckeroo takes place at the Fairgrounds at Nats Park. Pretty big space to accommodate the crowds, and boy, there are usually crowds. I do wish there was more seating, as the wide-open space would certainly accommodate. And it can be tricky juggling your beer and food. It's also a pet-friendly space, so bring the pup! I will say that the beer concessions are lacking. The selection isn't all that great. And, often times, the servers are rather surly. But, you're going to Truckeroo to eat not drink. And, there is a daiquiri stand (cash only) offering other drink options. read more

I love this ingenious event........so you already know my review is bias........ I have been to this event every time it has happened.........today i went twice.......its freaking awesome.......and usually causes me to completely pig out...... I have tried a variety of the big name food trucks.....i'm always amazed at how much food they sell at this event....the reason this event is so great is because you don't have to chase down these trucks, all the big name trucks are just posted here for a long shift........ In case you didn't know this only happens once a month, the last friday of the month......at the bullpen outside of Nationals stadium.... Cost is free.......and in the evening/night hours this place is very packed. I usually go during the day.....because at night you will have to wait 30-60 minutes for food.......i even heard a lady say that she wait for 2 hours today.......ridiculous...... Cool place to hang out.......its a must check out for foodies........ My only complaint is that they need draft beer........ read more

If you've been to Portland or Austin, the place pales in comparison. First off, those two are actual grassroots operations where your imagination is the limit. DC's food trunk event is sponsored by Pepsi and Miller light with corporate banners everywhere. If you needed a reminder that you're in stiff white collar DC, there it is! Second, the food is not that amazing. I think you'd travel out here for the idea of a food truck, but for one food stall itself, not so much. Most food trucks in the rest of world sells comparable if not cheaper food than brick and mortar operations because of the lower overhead. Everything here is a dollar or two more expensive and come in this obnoxious size that rides between "too small" to be full but "too large" to really hit up more than 1.5-2 trucks which is pathetic.- you'd be bummed to only try one, but if you tried two then you're stuffed and you dropped at least twenty dollars for a single person, not including tips and drink. Take for instance the "tapas" truck- 10 dollars for like three chicken fritters on top of mediocre garlic fries in a small paper cone, are you seriousss? Six dollar tacos? Four dollar empanadas? Seven dollar runofthemill gyros? The cuisine offered tends to be a little repetitive and boring and not that different from what you can get elsewhere in a brick and mortar store in the city. Everyone's eaten pho and pizza before- what does DC offer that another city doesn't? Not much apparently. The two biggest lines were for korean bbq tacos which are from LA and Red Hook Lobster Pound which serves expensive lobster rolls based out of New England. The hype is unwarranted because they're pretty mediocre tacos and pretty mediocre lobster rolls- these two trucks only get away with it because a. There's no other competition, and b. lobster rolls and tacos are like pizza where they're still pretty good even when it's mediocre. Another thing I really appreciate about Portland's food truck scene over DC's are the smaller crowds. If you spent the 40 minutes to get here from the edge of town prepare to spend another 10-15 just getting your order in so they can serve you pre-prepared food. Nothing is cooked to order apparently- it's all pre-cooked, pre-prepped and simply assembled when you get there. Hello mediocre lukewarm food! I just tear up a little when I think of Miss Kate's Catfish Po'boy in Portland which took about 10-15 minutes to get (without a line) and is easily within one of my top ten food experiences ever. Came here last night around 7 and it was packed with people. You'll know which place is good from the long lines. You can't bring drinks inside so don't waste the money. I think most if not all of the trucks accepts credit cards so if you forget to bring the bling you can still use the card. Alright... Now the best I had was the lobster roll (pretty expensive just get the roll $15 and not the whole meal). Crab sliders ($13 for 3) are good too. For my 500th review I thought I would have something grand to say, but I think I'll go with practical that 'everyman' can relate to, and would be the DC food trucks. In the last few weeks I have conquered my fear of waiting in line (alone) to eat lunch. When I'm lucky other friends will join me in waiting- and there is something exciting, almost Disneyland like about the anticipation of trying a new truck. Truckeroo consists of a fantastic location, right across from the Navy Yard metro on the Half St. side. Yes its the green line, but its only 2 stops from L'enfant. Its free to enter, but if you want to drink you have to show your ID. Upon entering I saw a vast area of picnic tables (some with umbrellas) surrounded by food trucks. The was literally something for everyone. It was a manic scene as people hurried around to take a quick inventory of what was available: mac and cheese, grilled cheese, empanadas, hot dogs, pizza, lobster rolls, pulled pork, bbq, popsicles, cupcakes, korean, pies, latin flare, indian, and so much more. Overwhelmed I played it safe and smart. Seeing how this is a monthly summer event, its HOT out. I wore a tank top. People coming from work weren't so lucky, but you're going to need sunscreen. My shoulders, despite the sun screen, burnt to a crisp, and I'm a pacific islander! I ran straight up to the popsicle truck, grabbed a sweet tea popsicle and got in the lobster truck line that moved really quickly. It probably took 25-35 minutes despite it being the longest line in the party. The popsicle really helped me cope with the wait time and the heat. After the lobster truck, I went to my safe bet of the empanadas. 10 min wait. These lines move, don't be intimidated! Pros- *Free admission! *Loads of food trucks to choose from *Beer / redbull & vodka (if you drink during the work day, or if you dont work) but $10 *Right off the metro *Monthly get together June - October *all day event 11am-9pm *live music, and between bands great mix of 80's and pop rock Cons- *Not enough seating. I was with a friend of mine, and it was like a scene straight out of "Forrest Gump", 'taken, this seat is taken.' DUDE if your friend is in line I promise to get through my empanada before he gets his food. biatch. *Food trucks cannot sell beverages *HUH?!* Usually you can get a bottle of water for $1 at most food trucks, but in this event you have to go to the liquor vendor which charges your $3 for a coke or water, but also gives you a cup of ice. *The area gets really really really hot *People drinking around children (which I think is weird at 11am on a friday) *No recycling bins for water / soda bottles / plastic *Solicitors trying to get you to download their app while insulting you on your iPhone app choices "no no ours is SO much better". read more

Admittedly, I imagine one's enjoyment of Truckeroo is directly proportional to the food trucks in attendance. And when we went in May, I wasn't bowled over by the offerings: a Maine Lobster Roll from Red Hook, DC Empanada's Buffalo Chicken Empanada, and the Garlic Fries at Tapas Truck were the highlights. Otherwise, I was the very definition of underwhelmed: all kinds of fried seafood at the aforementioned Tapas Truck; a decent, naturally-raised Pork Chivito from the Mojo Truck; average cheesecakes at That Cheesecake Truck; and a truly disappointing barbeque plate from BBQ Bus. And -- tho it appears folks have been complaining about the lack of seating for some time now -- there's still not nearly enough seating. Balancing a precariously packed plate of food in one hand while cradling a precious beer in the other does not a pleasant dining experience make. And when six of us managed to snag a picnic table from a departing group, we were then subjected to the withering stink-eye of many a standing patron. [Not really, it was just our paranoia over being some of the Chosen Few.] Husband deemed Truckeroo such a bust that he declared we are "never" returning. Great concept. A bunch of food trucks all in one place? Joy of joys. There have been quite a few food trucks that I've wanted to try out, but they never seem to be near where I'm at on the days I'm able to eat at one. My main stomping grounds for food trucks are Franklin Park Fridays, which kinda limits my selection seeing as how a lot of the trucks have settled into a rigid schedule. I felt like a kid in a candy shop, except the candy was too expensive to try more than a few trucks (and even then, I only bought one main course). The live music was pretty cool, just a cover band but I guess that's a safe bet for a large crowd that no doubt has a wide range of tastes. There were two big negatives though. The first was the scarce supply of seating. As Kat said, it was like they ripped a page straight out of Forrest Gump. More seats next time please! The other issue I had was an egregious, unconscionable wrong. What could have offended my tastes so greatly? Why, the absolute highway robbery that was the drinks bar, that's what. None of the food trucks could sell beverages, which is kind of a crying shame because with some of the trucks the beverages really complement the meal (specifically I'm thinking of the Maine Root soda from the lobster truck that I wanted to try so badly but could not). No, instead you have to pay three bloody dollars for a 20 ounce Coke. Feelin' like getting a bit buzzed? You'll have to shell out a hard-earned Hamilton for a Red Bull and vodka. Naturally, the rational consumer would recognize the absolute injustice in this and boycott the drinks, but when you're standing in the sun for quite a while waiting for lines to move, your choices are either dehydration or bending over. Perhaps if you have a purse/murse/duffel bag/satchel you can sneak in your own beverages -- I know I would. read more

FINALLY, variety at Navy Yard. Perfect for us cubicle monkeys itching for something other than Five Guys and Subway. Long lines, and not really organized, but that's to be expected for any lunch time venue in DC. Lunch time waits are around 30-45 minutes, and I am guessing evening waits are longer. I'll definitely continue to go for lunch, but not dinner. Some of the food was really overpriced (esp for what it was - $10 for mac and cheese? really?), but I am sick enough of Five Guys to want to go back to the 'roo. Stopped by there later in the evening before closing time (8 or 9 i think) with the puppy, and the fact that many food trucks had run out wasn't too bad, it was more so the drunk hipsters playing cornhole who yelled at my dog how awesome her face was.
