Canceled service last September due to being dissatisfied with service. (did not complete last year's treatments). Came home in February to find that it had "auto renewed" and CC charged since they retained it after cancelling. Called to get charge reversed and re-affirm cancelation. They tried to get me to restart service so they could leave acct active. They couldn't cancel while reversing charge was active. So will have to call back to try to get cancelled for a third time. read more

While I have had great experiences with TruGreen, 2 months ago the fertilized my lawn. During the process they burned my lawn to the point that two months later I have huge brown spots (the lawn was green and lush before the service. A technician came out to confirm it was a chemical burn. I have tried for 2 months to have them repair the lawn with no success. I would strongly recommend finding an alternative provider - lawn damage offsets the beneficial treatments. read more

I have had a terrible time with them and cancelled today. 1st time they entered our backyard and left our gate wide open (it was securely closed when they arrived). I finished a meeting and let my dog out without knowing and they got loose. We got them back in safely, but if you entered a customers yard with a closed gate, close it when you leave. 2nd time was today. I was on a work call when they arrived. I have a window in office and I could see them quickly spray front and then go to leave. In all fairness, we are getting a pool, so there is work being done but no contractors were here today and there is plenty of grass. They technician knocked on my door and my dogs went nuts and I couldn't answer immediately, so he went to leave. I caught up with him in vehicle and he was immediately on defense and upset with me for not answering door. I don't understand that, because that means if I wasn't home, they would just ignore the back yard? He told me it's policy not to service if any work is being done. He agreed to spray but told me I had to tell him where to spray. I was confused by this and asked if he could just spray where there is grass. He did a quick spray and left. I called to discuss it/complain and the guy on the phone seemed like he could care less, so I just cancelled. I do not recommend. I will look for a smaller local service read more

After terrible service with TruGreen last year my husband gave them one more chance for this year. TruGreen said we had a service yesterday, but we didn't see a sign in the yard, not did we see anyone throughout the day. With all of the rain we can't see any evidence of treatment. Don't sign up as stopping the servide is a nightmare. You can't cancel on the website. So I called to terminate and that went fine: just an "OK, I got it" kind of response. Then thier call to me started. They basically will hound you with call after call, refuse to hang up or acknowledge your decision to move on and in general be rude and violate any semblence of good business practice. As for the service itself, they consistently produced mediocre to trash results. They have a list of services and some reasonably good technicians to implement them. (They will constantly try to upsell you). If their canned solutions are not helping your lawn, they are completely unable to diagnaose anything outside their box...BUT, that won't stop them from selling you something that doesn't help. Then when you decide to try something else this year, the above scenario plays out...call after call, after call. read more

Bad idea, I wish we would have read reviews outside of the Trugreen website prior to starting with them. Our lawns were pretty nice before we contracted with Trugreen, we just wanted to make them more lush and get rid of the weeds. That was 4-5 months ago and every month has looked worse, now everything looks scorched and torn up. The good grass is turning brown, the weeds are the only thing growing and they've torn up everything speed racing around the property after a big summer storm with their aerator. It's an eyesore that covers almost half an acre between some very nice properties that have beautiful yards. I hope it will recover. I highly discourage using this company, it's so disappointing to have someone ruin your lawns AND have to pay for it. Not impressed, cancelling service and padlocking the gates. read more

This is the right company for the service you want to turn your lawn into weeds. In addition, payment invoices have been sent continuously since March, there is a problem with the company's system. There are still three services left, However they sent a bill for the three services, so I've been calling every week for the past 3 months, but it's not completely resolved. Trugreen did an excellent job on my lawn in about half a year of service thus far. They aerated and overseeded my lawn and now it looks like a baseball field. It is so thick, green and healthy. So far they've only come out once this spring and sprayed weed killer and the weeds died inside of 48 hours. I have no weeds whatsoever. Their best service IMO is the aeration and overseeding, which I think I paid extra for. Before their service, my lawn grew at different rates and lengths. After overseeding, now my entire lawn grows in evenly and looks like a thick shag carpet. No more high and low spots of grass. The overseeding essentially takes over your current grass and replaces it with newly grown seeds. I will not renew my plan because they did so well during the 1st year's subscription that now I know how to maintain it going forward with other spray-on fertilizers/weed killers. read more

We are always having to call them back for a retreatment as they seem to do nothing for the weeds. It is like they are spraying water on the lawn. I could do that. And are very picking about the 10-14 days. People have things to do, lose track. Last time we had that missed by a couple days. Anybody could look and see those weeds had been there many days. read more

I had TruGreen several years ago to treat shrubs and trees. Canceled as didn't seem to be helping. Had a Japanese maple with issues this spring so contacted them to see if they could treat. They said they could. Renewed and prepaid for a year. In the past when I had their service, I was never home. I work remote now so was home for previous treatment and the one today. Received automated text that service person had arrived so looked outside office for truck. Nothing. 5 minutes later, I look again. Don't see anyone. Another couple minutes, I see something yellow in front of garage move slightly. Was a yellow hose. Service guy walks up to porch with bill and sets off Ring. I walk out and ask him how he could possibly have treated my .75 acre lot that is covered in trees and shrubs in 10 minutes. He tells me he has been there 13 minutes and walked around the far side of house on other side of garage with hose. He intentionally parked where my Ring would not pick him up and out of view of any windows. I asked how he was able to treat shrubs in front of my house without my Ring going off? He started fumbling at this point. Told me he did treat inside my fence due to pool. There are no shrubs that close to pool to avoid treating. He was obviously caught not treating. I called and complained and canceled my service. Also was told that they do NOT treat Japanese maples as too delicate. Was advised to research it online to treat myself. Very disappointed in the lying and poor business practices. The constant calls for add-on services are getting out of hand. Today the technician showed up to spray my lawn while it was raining. He quickly ran through the yard spraying a treatment that I'm sure was immediately washed off by the rain. Shortly after he left, a sales person called to say that the technician had just finished and reported that I have an "infestation" of insects in my bushes and trees. First, I have no such infestation. Second, the technician talked to me an made no such report, nor did he denote any problem on the printout he left behind. Third, the technician wasn't in my yard long enough for any kind of examination. No, I'm not buying your tree service, your mosquito service, or any other service. If I could give ZERO stars I would. TruGreen has let me down time and time again, and every year they say they have "changed" and yet every year I come back its empty promises. Didn't have many weeds previously was mostly looking for them to maintain or improve things since I didn't have the spare time, instead I have Wild Clover and prostrate sandmat running wild. No one at the local office will call you, but best believe TruGreen will use that same humber to harass you for the money they claim you owe for the "service" the provided. The refuse to set up a service call since my account is suspended for non-payment, gee I wonder why, perhaps it's because you haven't done anything that warrants payment. Yet the only way to get your account zeroed out is to have the local office contact you, who will lie cheat and steal just to get you to pay them, that's IF they even call you. Signed up for tree and shrub service. Salesman assured every tree, shrub, and bush under 25' would be treated. Have had several treatments with no discernible difference. Today observed why. Trugreen arrived at 10:28a and left at 10:31a. Watch from the office and checked cameras. Yet note on the front door stated they serviced 12758 sq ft and used 95.69 gallons at a rate of .8964 gallons per square foot! They did that in 3 minutes?! The 2 service people got in the truck and drove off. Went outside, they partially treated 4 bushes on my .75acre wooded lot. Have had Trugreen for years. Most times I'm not home when treatments are done. Would not recommend!!! read more

I wish there were a way I could NOT provide any stars to this business for varied reasons. One star is a gift. We started using them in 2006 and it's been a nightmare. I just cut them off a week ago but not without harassment from them. They overcharge you for lawn treatments at roughly $57 a treatment. It goes up 5% every and the first time I called and complained they took off the increase. Late last year before my last 2 treatments I intended to cancel and they offered my last 2 treatments for a discount price of $28 which is indicative they are already overcharging you in the first place. Last week I got a card in the mail INFORMING ME of when my treatments would be scheduled. That was it. I called and cancelled. The guy who helped me out I will admit did an OK job with me despite my rants. I was sorry he had to be the receiver of my frustration but I stand my ground. He offered to be my exclusive contact and would work up a pricing for me to keep me. When he wanted to verify my email address it was an old one from 5 years ago when we began our account. Ironically, I had called EVERY YEAR TO UPDATE THE EMAIL ADDRESS AND THEY STILL HAD NOT SUCCESSFULLY DONE IT. Wow. 5 years later. Talk about NOT listening to your customer, not being in tune, not being successful in handling BASIC customer service. That was it for me. No more. I will work with my landscaper to provide me the treatments my lawn needs and I will not go back to TruGreen. Highway robbery. Also, if you decide to sign up, they will come out and do an "assessment" which you will not ask for and then call you daily for WEEKS and this is extremely abusive. When I get letters or cards telling me what they plan on doing, I simply write them an email and on the card that if they choose to come out and do whatever I did not authorize, I will NOT pay them as this will be considered a gift. I work extremely hard for the money I spend an TruGreen does not deserve it. Very sorry to the poor guy who handled me the other day. It's not him it's his company and I recognize he has a job to do. At the end of the day, he's representing the company he works for......no more. Received a call the next day and was told a representative would visit my property to walk the area to answer questions and give me a quote. On Monday, answered the phone to hear multiple people laughing. After saying "Hello" three times, he responded. Conversation was very script oriented - give a quote base on satellite. Was told the applications were for weeds so I asked many questions about that definition (violets, moss growth etc). Response was after an application was done, the the quote would be adjusted. He wanted me to go and get my wife on a speaker phone so she could hear the details. Was told another person would call to schedule the property walk thru and give quote. A call to schedule a walk the property and get details of their service never happened. In the future, I'll look at surveys prior to engaging. Customer service has made my decision. K read more

Then you get shuffled around. If you don't call them every year they just continue your service and increase your fees a lot! I have a rental property at 9754 s Merrion, Chicago IL 60617. I have been a Truegreen customer for around nine (9) years. I was at property on September 11, 2017, and to my amazement I saw the entire front lawn had died. They generally come do the lawn between March an October, around 5 times yearly. I questioned my tennant and she informed me that shortly they came in August it started deteriorating rather rapidly. She further stated that she watering the lawn but to no avail. Since lawn is now dead coming out in spots there is no other rationale explaination. There were no drought conditions in Chicago this year(my neighbors lawn is fairly green an he never waters it). Between constant annoying phone calls to a front lawn that looks like hell, I highly advise prospective customers look elsewhere. Over the past several years my yard was full of every variety of weed and always occupied by mosquitos that chewed up my children. I have had my lawn and mosquito issues dealt with by a smaller company who was very helpful, but were struggling getting my weeds under control. This company was bought out by Tru Green. Since Tru Green took over, all the weeds and more are back. My yard is a disaster! last year I made several calls and finally got a manager to come to my house. He was appalled at the shape of my yard after months of their useless treatment. He promised that they would get it under control and that I would not be billed for future treatment until it was fixed. Since then, I have made several calls to them, being placed on hold for long periods of time. I have requested that a field manager call me back every single time. I have never received a call to this day. I have since moved from the property and still get bills for grub treatment, weed treatment, and mosquito treatment. They have now sent me to collections and WILL NEVER GET A DIME FROM ME. I have never missed or been late on any payment in more than 30 years. I will never pay a dime for ineffective, unethical business practices. Period! I want every cent back that I have paid them and collections to STOP! WOW!! what's happened to TruGreen in the last 12 years?? We originally tried them in 2006 at our Highland Lakes home with DISASTROUS results. We experienced everything from constant/weekly 'hard-sell' calls regarding additional services; seemingly angry technicians speed-treating our 3/4 acre yard in a jog at 5 minutes flat!!; totally unwilling or unable to answer questions regarding our lawn they JUST treated; and the worst was, lawn didn't get better...it got WORSE!!! Cancelled them. Fast-forward 12 years to our new home in Galena...door-to-door salesman pitched services of the "new TruGreen". Truth be told, the ONLY reason I gave them a shot was because my yard was horrendous...AND he rang the doorbell WHILE I was purchasing a bag of fertilizer/weed killer from Home Depot online for $58.26. Once he guaranteed: 1) they could do my first treatment tomorrow (which they did!!) ... 2) it would only cost $29.95 (half of the bag I had in queue @ HomeDepot.com) ... 3) "if you decide you do not want to continue with TruGreen, you can cancel anytime...you can even cancel after tomorrow's $30 service...which is about half what you were gonna pay to do it yourself". True, worth a shot, I agreed. Fast forward to November: yard is GREEN!!! Bare spots filled in!! Customer Service has been splendid!! Every technician has proven very thorough, courteous, and more than willing to provide me with extensive 'grass knowledge' as well as detailed print-outs of all work. Again, have no idea what has happened within TruGreen since 2006; but this is NOT the same company I dealt with at our last home. Sorry, this will be a little long. I've been a lawn customer for 7 or 8 years and my service was originally consistent and pretty good. A couple of years ago, they started having heavy turnover and I had to call regularly for service problems (guys showing up, planting the sign and doing nothing, more than once - thanks to my cameras witnessing) Then, laste year I was talked into their "tree & shrub service" - don't bother! My trees were still eaten by Japanese beetles and looked terrible. That caused me to cancel... They then called, begging for me to try again with a discount. I said I would give them one chance. Ha! This year, not only have the trees been infested with Japanese Beetles, BUT they also contracted some strange fungus that has caused one to be cut down and the other to be severely pruned and looks terrible. I complained via e-mail and phone (to cancel the service) which cause several phone calls of "concerned" customer service reps and one visit from someone to "look things over" with absolutely no action. (Other than another "concerned" phone call with promises of taking action and possibly replacing my tree. Finally, two days ago, the service rep came to fertilize the lawn and didn't realize I was home. He barely did anything, was surprised when l walked out to ask about weeds (said he would spray them - did NOT) and didn't even realize where the border of my yard was. Said he would hit the part he missed but simply drove away. (Again, there are cameras all over my property so I know he just left.) I will make one more call to them and will cancel for good. I would give zero stars, but that isn't an option. This company is running scam. Their yard care services are meh. The mosquito treatment plan is a joke. But much more maddening is the difficult the company has intentionally put into place to enable you to cancel. I originally was only trying to cancel the mosquito service. I tried their chat to cancel function, but was told (after a 15 minute wait) that I needed to call the number as cancellations via chat were not effective (though there is no legal reason why they wouldn't be acceptable). I then tried their customer service number. After more than an hour on hold, I was finally able to talk to someone who purportedly cancelled all of my services and then hung up on me while I was asking for confirmation of the cancellation. I suspect I'll be charged for the next service and will have to dispute the charge with my credit card company. DO NOT USE!!!!! read more

Years ago these guys did a decent job, now whatever they use just doesn't work and they have the audacity to demand payment for ineffective services. When I pushed them last year on the effectiveness of their treatments, they came out and blasted so much of the garbage they use it not only killed the weeds, but most of the surrounding good lawn. In addition to the ineffectiveness of their treatments, their business practices are shady. One day guy showed up and aerated our lawn, w/o being asked to do so. This was the second time we tried Tru Green as our grass was in need of help. The first time we tried them several years ago I caught the technician completely bypassing one entire side of lawn. That's why we cancelled that time. This time, their technician burned sections of our lawn. They planted sod to replace the burned areas. It immediatelty died in spite of watering. Twice more they were supposed to have fixed it. But they planted grass seed on another part of the lawn that wasn't the problem! I will never use them again.(And they didn't even get the bad sections of the lawn to look better!) Update: Ron subsequently came out personally to fix the dead sod. He did a great job replacing it. I'm pleased with the fix but still would not recommend them for routine lawn care. read more

This company is a SCAM! They come a treat a potion of the yard then you call them and sit on hold forever for them to say " I can send them back out". This is our 3rd call them back out. When I ask for someone to talk to about my account and if they are supposed to treat the entire yard or just a few strips, she could not answer that question nor transfer me to someone that can.
