These are permanent residences for many Spanish citizens, but there is a large English ex-pat community as well as a few ex-pats from other countries. Many owners use their condos for vacation and short-term rent when they're not using them.
Stayed 3 nights with Booking.com. We were in a nice walk-up 2nd floor 2br condo with terrace and roof deck. The unit was comfortable, quiet, and afforded us good sleep. The kitchen had a clothes washing machine, but like most of Spain, no dryer (most people air dry). Water pressure was great although bathing one at a time with our family, the hot water ran out far too quickly resulting in cold showers.
This is a HUGE development in Alhama de Murcia, filled with condos of different types (walk-up or apartment house style), and sizes in a humongous development big enough to support its own grocery store and town square. They are out in the middle of arid terrain near Badlands and desert, and a good drive from the town proper.
Unfortunately there is currently a plumbing issue in Spain that allows sewer gas to escape, and this can make living spaces that sit unused have a smell. Our apartment had probably sat unused for a bit and there was a temporary smell upon arrival. Note that this happened in a few properties of the numerous hotels where we stayed throughout our weeks in Spain. Once we used the sinks and toilet the smell was gone.
