    Reject cookie bags!

Y'all, this place b lookin' old and run down but If you want some fresh rice noodles and become a chef star, this the place to be. You can make your own beef chow fun with gravy or without! Their pricing is great, their noodles are made fresh and in house and they're actually a wholesaler for a lot of other places so if you're feeling like you've perfected a recipe, try buying in bulk and making a party order or start your own biz? I love to cut the rice rolls up into little pieces and make my own XO rice noodles w shrimp, and for the cut rice noodle packs, I love to separate them all and make it with some soy sauce/hoisin and beef! Of course topping everything with green onion is a plus and asian staple The fortune cookie rejects are also great dipped in chocolate and with some toppings. GET TO EXPERIMENTING!

Go on and walk through, ignore the barred exterior. The inside doesn't have much to show except some large bags of round ("mess up") fortune cookies and smaller bags of flavored proper fortune cookies with fortunes inside (almond, strawberry, ginger, vanilla) The cookies are light and crispy and so much better than ones you get from any panda express like places. Highly highly recommended!! I actually like the flat mess up cookies better than the flavored ones.

A fortune cookie factory that is just a stone's throw away from......a food bank for the less fortunate. It was strange. Very strange to arrive here to see a huge line up that starts on the underside of the I5 overpass on Weller Street and runs halfway down the block because of people lining up for the food bank. Original owners are from Toishan, a dialect that I can't understand. That's what granny spoke to me with her accent. I couldn't understand most of it but someone else who spoke it, translated it to standard Canto for me. Anyhoo, I got a few bags. The original flavour. Nothing fancy. That's all I needed. They're much, much tastier than anything you can get in Hongcouver. Go figure. The store is old. Four generations old, but they still push out the best cookies I've tasted. $9.95 for a 5 lb bag of the less fortunate variety. Aka, broken and chipped. $3 for 1 lb bag of the regular stuff

Love fortune cookies?! This is the freshest and best there is! Literally! They make fresh flat or folded fortune cookies and they're always so fresh - beats the stale ones you get from the restaurants! There's nothing like it in Houston (even with such a large Chinatown) so I had my dad buy me some and ship them over to me cause I miss them so much!!! He use to get these and the Ho fun fresh and we'd go to town! The Ho fun is the soft rice noodles you can buy whole sale and take it home and add some meat or veggies and make it a meal! Can't re-iterate how fresh this place is! Totally worth the shipping costs!!! My bf loves fortune cookies.. well he's in for a Xmas surprise!!

Quality: I like their thin wonton pi. Haven't used the bag of noodles I bought yet. Service: Lady who answered the phone was very helpful. Normally the other times I've been there, the guy or a lady were helpful as well, making sure that I got what I needed. Girl at the front desk, not so much. I went to pick up the noodles and asked for 10lb of the steamed noodles like the lady on phone told me to do. She went into the back, another customer came in, she came out. She decided to help that customer instead. I got a little upset because she and the other lady decided to have a little chat as well while I was still waiting and my husband was in the car waiting with the baby. No idea what they spoke, it was Cantonese. She then asked if I wanted the box of pan fry noodles. We eventually worked it out and I got my bag of noodles. I wish they had pictures of the noodles though. I'm used to the noodle factories in Hawaii, so I'm not familiar on what the equivalent types are here.

These guys totally make the best fortune cookies and noodles! Hell, they have been doing it since 1917 and still going strong! My earliest recollection about their fortune cookies was when my father brought home this gigantic, clear bag full of unfortunate fortune cookies (flats). My sister and I were beside ourselves and totally gorged on them; and later getting in trouble with mom because we weren't hungry for dinner! They still sell those 5lb bags of unfortunate fortune cookies for $6.30. They also offer different flavors of fortune cookies. Flavors like: strawberry, lemon, cherry, mint, mocha, cinnamon, apple, blueberry, chocolate and pina colada. These flavored fortune cookies run $1.15 for a 4oz package (16 cookies). If you have some special occasion to celebrate, you can also have them do custom flavors and fortunes for you! I do stop by every once in a while and pick up their fresh noodles. They have 19 different varieties to choose from, though they don't have all of them stocked in the refrigerator case. If there is something you are looking for that isn't there just ask! Fortunes in fortune cookies have changed over the years. These aren't from Tsue Chong, but when I was growing up fortunes weren't so politically correct: Boy, wouldn't it suck to get this one: _______________________________________________ I I I DEATH AND PAIN SURROUNDS YOU I I______________________________________________ I _______________________________________________ I I I YOU WILL MARRY IN THE NEXT SIX MONTHS I I______________________________________________ I What? I was 9 years old! Fortunes evolved and got a little silly: Front of fortune: _______________________________________________ I AVOID I I TAKING UNNECESSARY GAMBLES I I______________________________________________ I Back of fortune: _______________________________________________ I YOUR LUCKY NUMBERS I I 4 8 15 16 23 42 I I______________________________________________I What I would like to see: _______________________________________________ I I I OH CRAP! I heart unfortunate fortune cookies, nuff said.... Pick up a nice size bag on the cheap, one of the better deals in the ID!! You need noodles? They got'em! In my youth we'd open the fortune cookie and add the words "in bed" to the end of each fortune, for giggles..... I.E. "You like Chinese Food....in bed." Duh! "You will find great fortune in the near future....in bed." OMG! I might have a new career!! "Accept the next proposition you hear....in bed." Sorry honey, cash only.... "You are a happy man....in bed." Like duh! Where's the remote... "Happiness is found when one is not looking...in bed." Honey this is Abby. Abby this is... "You will be the guest of a gracious host...in bed." SCH-WING! YEAH BABY! Ala Austin Powers....

    So worth eating gluten for!

One of my childhood favorites. I cannot believe I've been coming here for almost 30 years (moved away from Seattle as a child, was visiting for the weekend)! My mom was happy to hear they are still going strong as well. The storefront is on the corner of King and 8th (don't go to the listed Yelp address since that's the business side). You can get a giant bag (either 5lbs) for ~$7-8 of "unfortunately cookies," which are basically rejects. I got a 1x bag of flat chips for $2.25 and they have some smaller bags with fortunes that are sealed and good for sending as gifts/omiyage. You can also get fresh made noodles in the fridge off to the side. While the noodles are also tasty, I am just in awe of how great the cookies are. Cookies-wise, the taste of freshly made original/vanilla fortune cookies is amazing! Their ginger is also great and full of wonderful ginger flavor. Seriously, I cannot recommend trying these enough. After one try, you too may find yourself seeking them out years later. Sometimes the best things really don't need to change and I'm thankful that these cookies haven't!!

I'm honestly disappointed to write this review…read more I've been shopping at Goodies for about six months now. They sell dukkah (along with other condiments and seasonings) that are hard for me to find, which saves me the time of making them myself. I've also been buying my lamb from them. On July 3, I purchased two packs of lamb chops. One pack was perfectly fine, but the other was clearly spoiled. I still cooked the good pack, but it wasn't enough for everyone to have. I've been cooking lamb for years--I know how it should smell and how it should look. This meat was off. I called the next day to let them know, and they told me they would replace it. I explained that I live over an hour away, so I wouldn't be able to come back until I was in the area again. They assured me they would still honor the exchange. When I came in today, I was met with so much rudeness that I was honestly shocked. I felt embarrassed by the way I was treated. I had really enjoyed supporting this small business up until this point. Because I was so shaken by the interaction, I didn't even realize until I got home that I had originally purchased a six-pack of lamb chops, but I was only given a four-pack in exchange. When I returned the spoiled meat, the woman behind the counter insisted she would "never sell meat like that." I tried to show her the timestamped photo I had taken of the meat when I purchased it, but she refused to even look at it. At one point she said she "didn't know what my deal was," and then suggested it was somehow my refrigerator's fault before asking, rather dismissively, "Well, what do you want?" I'm a very understanding person. When you're selling raw meat, sometimes things happen. Products can spoil. I wasn't looking for an argument--I simply expected for the issue to be handled professionally and with kindness. Instead, I was treated as though I was trying to cause a problem. I'm sure many people will continue to shop here without issue. However, left feeling like I wasn't afforded the same courtesy or respect that other customers might have received. Maybe I would have been treated differently had I looked different. I can't say that for certain, but I also can't think of another reason I was met with such hostility when I approached the situation politely and respectfully from the very beginning. No customer should leave feeling the way I did. The top pack of lamb pictured was perfect. The bottom pack smelled bad and was greenish in person. As you can see via time stamp - I purchased the lamb on the 3rd and began to cook it on the 4th of July.

The store's far larger than I'd imagined and carries far more stuff. The produce dept. got me right away when I found GREEN lemongrass (almost impossible to find in my county), black garlic, large fresh ginger--and garlic scapes (they call it spring garlic). I was especially hoping to find garlic scapes since I just discovered them and have already found a great stir-fry recipe for them. A also bought some soy sauces along with an XO sauce that are hard to find in regular supermarkets. Yes, I already have stir-fry plans for all of them. There's far more food stuff I could've bought but the question that decided me against it was "Who else in the house will eat it other than me?" The meats pre-sliced for Korean/Japanese dishes tempted me but were pricey. Besides I own a meat slicer. The one thing I didn't find which was my sole disappoint was Shaoxing wine, a Chinese rice win. They carried the cooking version but not the drinking one. Contrast that with shelves filled with Japanese sakes. I prefer Shaoxing for stir-fry dishes and already have some at home so the disappoint wasn't too great. We rarely get to Seattle so it'll be a while until we re-visit the store. The good news is that a new Uwajimaya will open in Tacoma next year. We plan to shop there a lot more often. Definitely a store worth visiting even if you don't cook Asian dishes. they carry all kinds of cooking stuff--including woks, rice makers, and lots of gadgets. Our son's friend even bought travel chopsticks. I told him he'll be required to whip those out at our next Chinese stir-fry dinner. He better like black garlic and garlic scapes.
