I ordered Water. , Chirashi Bowl And a Tempura Appetizer for there !!!! I also ordered a Dragon Roll to go for a Midnight Snack!!! I do like the Decor of Tsuru!!! There's a Large Aquarium with 2 huge fish swimming around and a Water Feature. The Sushi Bar looks very Unique as does the Front Counter Area. Service is Friendly and Efficient Also very Attentive!!! My Water Glass was never Empty!!! My Tempura Appetizer came out Piping Hot from the kitchen!!! It was Delicious and Presented very nicely!!! My Chirashi Bowl took a While!! It was Worth the Wait though !!! It was a very Artistic Presentation with a Purple Orchid Flower and Other Artistic twists !! The Fish was Fresh and Tasty!!! We came here for lunch with my family of four people and got seated right away on Saturday. Service was normal. Foods are very much mediocre and below expectation. We ordered two bento boxes, California rolls and chicken udon. None of the foods are great. How can you even go wrong with the most basic CA roll?! Way too much rice disproportionally and thick and way too little imitation crab meat. Udon is too overcooked so the noodles are too soft and my kid didn't like it and ended up wasting nearly the whole udon. She usually loves just any udon but not this one. My bento box has the pork cutlet which is too thin and dry, let alone the disappointing CA roll. Too big of a disappointment to even give it another try. I really love this place- first time coming in with my cousin. I got the spicy tuna roll and my cousin got the dragon roll (phenomenal!!!) I got the miso soup and it was so flavorful. They serve hot tea as you sit and even come around to refresh your cup with hot tea. So authentic and the food was fantastic. Love the service !! read more

Finally tried this local spot in downtown San Leandro and it didn't disappoint. First of all, you get served with fresh hot tea. Yum. My fav lol My bf ordered the unagi bowl that came with miso soup & salad. He enjoyed it, ate everything. We ordered the tempura as the appetizer- the veggies could've been softer inside but still pretty good. The prices were not bad at all. I ordered the inari & mentaiko and the E 14th roll. Everything was bomb. I loved the E 14th roll because of that spicy Mayo sauce!!! I usually don't like it cuz restaurants don't really make the sauce good at all but it had so much flavor and a kick of a little bit of heat. 10/10 would recommend. I've been coming here for over 24 years. My fav items that I order everytime I come is: Beef teriyaki Shu mai Shrimp crunch roll And California rolls. Tsuru sushi has the BEST California rolls. Called to make reservations for a party of 10, when we arrived (about 20ish minutes early) the tables were all set up and they immediately walked us over. Walked by this place a few times. Finally decided to come check this place out. We were seated immediately and welcomed with a warm glass of tea. It was perfect timing because it was cold outside. The food was really good. My wife is normally picky with Sushi. But she absolutely loved this place! The presentation of food and plate-ware was really nice too. The food is perfectly proportioned. And the Chicken Teriyaki had a nice char flavor to it. Menu Prices were very reasonable as well. Which is really hard to find these days in the Bay. I have lived in San Leandro for a long time and frequent this restaurant because I love the quality of the food and it's clean. The service is horrible however when the old guy is there. The older guy is always rude, cranky and dismissive. We ordered food to go and went in about maybe 30 minutes after we ordered and still had to wait 20 minutes while he waited on other people that came in after us. After asking about our food, the second time he asked for us to give him another second despite the fact that our food was ready and sitting on the counter. We were charge $55 for two lion kings, which was $16.95 apiece and one medium bottle of sake. that we were never told the price of but if you do the math, the sushi was $34. When asked if we wanted a receipt? We did not get an itemized receipt. We just got a receipt with a total on it. I'm done giving my money to people that don't appreciate, nor value the fact that I patronize their business willingly. My money is hard earned and green just like everyone else and it's not my problem if you can see that! read more

Years ago (maybe 15+) my mom took me to lunch here and we loved their sushi and bento boxes. I'm happy to share that I still feel the same about our recent orders of sushi (via delivery). What we ordered: Lion King, Dragon Roll, Unagi Nigiri. Some might say the rolls were small, but the rice was on point, each bite was delicious, and the ingredients didn't overpower one another (I tasted every one). Everything was fresh, rolled tightly, and I wanted to eat more. I don't usually pay too much attention to the tobiko, but the green tobiko was popping with flavor on top of the Dragon Roll. I'd order all of these rolls again any day. Only note is that they were kinda pricey and can add up if you get a few, but my taste buds said they were well worth it...especially since I'm supporting a local restaurant! Ordered To-Go Ordered two bento boxes, lots of rolls and tempura. Tempura was crispy and perfect. The bento boxes (lunch) are way more than enough food. Rolls - delish. One of the main reasons I love their rolls is the CA roll specifically. The crab is not mixed with mayo or broken up. It's always a piece of just crab & avocado. Simple yet good. Solid Japanese restaurant in a busy plaza. Service: I was felt that service was lacking here. They don't really answer you when you ask a question. Like there were several times I'll be like "Hello! I would like to place a togo order please" and they would just stare at me until I continued. Some times they won't even look at me and just stand there and pick up a pen and look like they are ready to take my order? Maybe a language barrier? Also they are often late/slow. Because I work near by I would usually call in my order around 12pm to hopefully be able to pick up at 12:30pm. But even when I call and placed my order early (their estimate time is 20 mins) I end up getting there and still having to wait another 30 mins. Very frustrating when you only have a 30 min lunch break! I've learned to call a hour early for an on-time pick up. Food: Solid Japanese food. I particular love their salmon teriyaki lunch special. Their sushi rolls are standard as well. Nothing that really sets them apart, but will satisfy your craving for sushi/Japanese food. Overall: If you're in the area and craving some japanese. I loved my bento box and the way they cooked my teriyaki chicken and made the california rolls. My boyfriend swallowed all of his rolls under 5 minutes so i'm assuming they were all a 10/10 as well. ( 20+ years ) It's a super small mom and pop restaurant downtown San Leandro . There's lots of places near by so I understand the location and parking . The actually store front is on the Main Street but Safeway and other places are behind them in a plaza so you can park and get inside easy . When you walk in it's super small BUT COZY ! Reading my old reviews I'm not biased about size , more so very attentive to customer service , which is always nice . The man that's been there since I was a child is STILL THERE ! They always have fresh food quality fish ! Another big thing for a sashimi person . If you're like me you can taste / tell when it's been prior frozen than fresh fresh fish . I appreciate them for that . One thing I want to mention , I appreciate that for the fried rolls they use less rice than they would a cold roll , so it actually comes out fried and crispy not a huge glob of fried rice ! Tsuru Sushi has been my favorite sushi restaurant in the East Bay for 15+ years. I used to come here as a kid with my family and I would always get their tempura or veggie udon (I still do whenever I'm in the mood for it). As I got older I started to eat rolls with my parents and this has been my go-to spot since! Dragon roll, rainbow roll, E.14th roll, Tiger Roll & Lion King are some of my favorites. I also love their house salad and miso soup, I get it every time! My family also enjoys their ramen and my dad orders mostly Nigiri Sushi and whatever is on the specials board/whatever the chef suggests. Kids usually compare Japanese restaurants to our usual spot and usually they like our usual spot better. This time they like Tsuru Sushi better! The California roll was gooood and the beef teriyaki was juicy and tender! The roll I got was really good too. The tempuras that we usually forget to eat was consumed as they were really good too. The rice tea was yummy. We enjoyed the salad and the kids like how the orange was presented instead of it being sliced the usual way. There was an older gentleman who was very attentive to us, but not overwhelming. And he was really kind to the kids. It took a short while for us to be seated when there was barely anyone in the restaurant and food wait was a little long. But it was freshly made! We were seated immediately upon entry so that was great but expected since there were only 2 other tables occupied when we arrived. The man who seated us was also the person to take our order, brought our food, count receipts at the register and sweep the floor. There were 2 other ladies there but it seems they were on a break then assigned to different tasks. The service was prompt but my dining companion and I did not feel a warm welome because each time that we thanked the multitasking man for bringing out each dish, he never responded, not even a smile. He offered ice water but it never came out. We did not receive the water until we asked again towards the end of our visit. Our meal was presentable and tasty but I've had better; and they serve decent portions. The only time the multitasking man formed a sentence was to say "Thank You" and "Bye-Bye" after we paid the bill and were leaving. We will not be returning to this local spot. read more
