Fried Fish cake: they took the shapes of potato wedges, crispy and a good starter. 2. Sausage: it's not a very salty sausage at all, it is stuffed with lemongrass and so unusual for a sausage. 3. Bamboo shoots noodle with duck salad - noodles sit in the clean broth, side with shredded cabbage, banana flowers, this unknown herb, and steamed duck that came with a ginger sweet and sour sauce. Such a refreshing combination, and what a pleasantly surprising flavor! The duck is juicy and cooked just right, not too fatty at all. 4. The bun rieu cua (crab and shrimp soup noodle) is practically 2-people's portion. The broth is clean and you can taste the crab and shrimp flavors well. We ordered 2 of this and I feel super horrible to have left behind the 2nd bowl...noooooooooo! This also look like a good take out place. Your first impression is that it's a hole in the wall business where there is probably enough seating for 20 people or so. I would say that I prefer a hole in the wall places because they end up being very true to their cuisine. However, with this place, I've been a patron for roughly 7 years and have seen a decline in their food quality as well as customer service. I mean, I've always given them the benefit of the doubt for the past five or six times that I've been here because maybe it's just an off day, but today will probably be my last. Only because I tell myself, maybe I shouldn't come here anymore, after each of these times. Although the duck meat isn't heavily seasoned, it is meant to be eaten dipped in their house mixed fish sauce which is so good I would be happy drinking it. This place reminds me of a very authentic Asian place...kind of the environment I grew up in. There's no AC so the restaurant is mildly warm, there's a corner with some stickers/earrings they are selling, and the interior is a bit run down. The menu is on the wall, and there's no prices on them. The service was good, and the food came out relatively quickly. The food overall was pretty good. We had the duck, bamboo shoot noodle soup, porridge, sausage, and fried fish cake. This was the first time I had duck that was not cooked the Beijing style, so I was surprised how it tasted like chicken. The sausage had a bit of spice to it and the flavor was good. I guess my only thing is the sanitation, I wasn't sure how clean the bowls were since they looked a bit dirty. We love all sorts of Asian food, and have been seeking it out for years, so it was a bit of a surprise to have dishes that gave us delicious tastes we have never had before. The Duck Noodle and Bamboo Soup here has a sublime broth with a taste quite unlike anything before for us. Believe me, the taste is not weird in any way, rather purely delicious. It is the result of, as the kind owner told us, making the duck-chicken broth every morning fresh. Also, the slices of duck that are served on the side are perfectly cooked (they are cooked soft not crispy) and have very fine taste, without the slightest bit of gaminess or edge to them. They know how to bring out the deep duck flavor, and the sauce that you dip the slices into has a unusual piquant taste, complimented terrifically by a frizzy salad on the side. Eating the duck this way, by dipping, and then slurping up the lovely noodles in the duck broth is a delight. Extremely savory but somehow also refreshing. This dish is packed with deep duck flavor, but somehow not heavy at all. And that is more amazing because some of the fat is left on the duck slices, and it is sumptuous. The only odd thing was that they leave the bone on the duck slices, and so you have to work around those. But that was not a big deal for such a delicious repast. It is hard to convey quite how unique and different this food tasted, and still highlight that it was not in anyway odd tasting. It was just delicious, and unique in our experience. And it shows clearly that they are taking great care with quality of the ingredients. It is a great treat to try something new, and outstanding. This small family owned restaurant got a much needed upgrade. They used to be a hole in the wall restaurant on the other side of University Avenue. The restaurant was small and the parking was horrible. Their new restaurant is much nicer. Parking isn't great, but the restaurant is spacious. The decorations are nice, really cultural and homey. They give you free iced tea to drink. They are famous for their Bun Mang Vit. Very fresh and they give you a gracious amount of duck. This place is know for their duck bamboo noodle soup and it was yummy. Many local Vietnamese like this place and often times there will only be Vietnamese there. You call to place an order for a party tray and they accept it. Then to only have them call back within 1 minute to say they can't and won't accept the order, telling you to go somewhere else and buy it. Your food may be good but the way you handle how you speak to your customer and telling them rudely to go elsewhere to buy the food is very disappointing. You accepted the order but then to call back saying you're too busy and don't have time to make the food. Unbelievable. I'll be taking my business elsewhere where they gladly will take it. Their duck and broth is the best I've ever had. It's light and refreshing. And they have other soups as well! The shop is quite limited and has no AC. But here is my opinion on just the food: it's good. Hard to find authentic tasting bun rieu in the US and they've almost got it down perfectly.
