Lovely tavern in a cute neighborhood. This place has a warm, inviting ambience as well as delicious food. It's corner location makes it very convenient and visible in the Tufnell area. I was visiting a friend and came here twice for both food and drinks. On my initial visit I took advantage of one of the lunch specials (chicken, quinoa and beets) and Egyptian soup. Both were warm and satisfying. On my second visit I came back for the same soup, although it tasted slightly different. Not bad different, just obvious that the food may not be very consistent. The only real critique would be the length of time it took to receive my food (a bit longer than usual for soup that should be already made). I fully enjoyed this place and would visit again. I really like this pub. The space: - It's huuuuge, so I have never had a problem finding a table, even with a large group - They have a nice beer garden with plenty of tables if you feel like soaking up the sun like a lizard OR if you fancy shade, there are shady tables too. - As well as the pub, there is a large dining room on one side - There are nice hot fires in winter next to comfy sofas Extra reasons for me to like it: - They have an art gallery upstairs (I think it's called the red hand gallery) - The pub is dog friendly, so you can spend time cuddling local pups - They have a farmers market outside on Saturdays - It's the closest pub to my flat (I realise this won't help most of you, but I am soooo glad that this pub is my local!) - Their cloudy cider is lovely in summer, and the mulled wine is lovely in winter - Almost everything I've tried food-wise has been good (the pizzas aren't the best in London, but ours wasn't bad...I just prefer the non-pizza options) read more

I really like the atmosphere at this pub, it's huge, spacious but well lit, and plenty of seating and a cute outside bit with plenty of benches for a beer garden. Brilliant feeling when you walk in, and for Summer, an almost perfect place to grab a drink! In terms of drinks, they serve a pretty standard selection with nothing particularly outstanding on their menu - though as it's a gastropub, the wine selection is better than average. Food wise, it's pretty good. The pizzas look great (none of us ate them), and the seasonal menu is a nice touch (a bit Mediterranean inspired). I won't comment on the dishes as it's constantly changing according to the season, but everyone enjoyed their food and gave it a thumbs up! My big gripe with this place is the price. I thought the food was overpriced given the size of the portions given, and the drinks were just average for London, which given it's North london I was expecting a bit better value for money. For 2 drinks + a meal, it cost around £25 each and I was left hungry afterwards. All in all, a bit of a mixed bag, as you can tell by how varied my review has been. On our way to the Emirates stadium we stopped at this Pub not knowing what to expect and we had a great dinner! If you come early on (before 7.30pm) there is a great 2-course menu for £12.50. The starter with asparagus was delicious and so was the main course (guinea fowl). Fast and friendly service, spacious restaurant area, separated from the pub and it seems like there was a nice outdoor area as well. Sounds like this is a great local, a gastropub that does merit its gastro label. Worth a try. read more

My local and I'm very pleased to have it. It accommodates for everything. The café area does good breakfast and coffee in the morning. The main drinking area is great for a bit of lunch and generally enjoying a few drinks. Then they also have a more formal dining area for a sit down meal. The menu is long and caters for almost everything and includes some very tasty pub pizzas (Cotto Ham is my favourite) as well as other meals that are more sophisticated and hearty! The beer selection is mostly lagers currently but they do have Mosaic Pale Ale on draft. Their wine and spirit selection is very decent although I personally don't order from them much. It can get very busy in the evening at weekends. Sometimes there are children running around so it can get a little hectic but the dining area is a sanctuary for those that need it! Plus they have a decent sized beer garden that is great on those occasionally sunny London days! Prices are probably on the higher side of average but the menu has a wide range of options and you can eat in the bar area. read more

This pub is my local pub, unfortunately it is not great. The beer is good quality however only 3-4 ales on tap. Prices very high £4.50 for lager. The atmosphere is ok, overall in short if this wasnt my local I wouldn't go out my way to vist it read more

So I moved to the area within the last 6 months and have walked past this place on my way to work ever since. Finally last week I went in for an unsuccessful Tinder date. However I was back here again within 3 days to get better acquainted with the pub. First of all there is a lot of space here, the doors open into a nice gastro-pub style seating arrangement, with a couple of sofas but mostly chairs and tables, standard. At the back and around to the left there is a more restaurant style zone with a couple of reclaimed church pews and larger tables. At the front and to the right there is a burger area which I haven't really explored yet. From the main bar you can walk straight on, out into a beautiful looking courtyard where I fully intend to spend the majority of my long summer evenings. I mentioned that the bar was very gastro pub. This is certainly true, in all but the food, which is superior to almost all the pubs I know in terms of both range and value for money. Pizza is clearly a speciality here with the hipster style serving on wooden bread-boards that look like they were reclaimed from the 70s. (I say this only because I grew up with bread-boards just like that.) There is only one problem with the Tavern: I made the biggest mistake of my life when I ordered my first meal here. Foolishly I went for the rib steak. I was with friends, we all had it. We have had to make a pact that when we return we either all order something different from the menu, or this becomes our steak house. For under £20 I had one of the best, melt in the mouth, blue steaks I have ever had. It was here that, for the first time, I wanted to know where the steaks were coming from. Never before have I wanted to write to the farm, the butcher and the chef to congratulate them on the quality of their work. My mouth is watering as I write this. If the pub was awful, I'd still give it 5 stars for the steak alone, but Tufnell Park Tavern is anything but awful. It's family friendly, from kids to dogs and there are a lot of friendly, beautiful dogs here. I want to give this more than 5 stars, just because I feel my other 5 star reviews are cheapening the value that I want to convey. read more

It took me ages to go into this pub, mostly because it's a bit nicer looking than my usual pub-style. After a few months of walking past it with my dog, to and from Foxham Gardens (dog friendly! shameless plug!), I decided to pop in for a drink with a friend. Since then, I'm hooked. Things I like: They have great pizza, lots of sitting room, nice nibbles, and nice indoor/outdoor options. They allow dogs in, and have never once complained about letting him sit on the couch with me. As someone else mentioned, they have a farmer's market on Sundays or Saturdays or something... And they are open in the mornings for breakfast and brunch. Work-friendly, you can always bring your laptop there and sip your drink while enjoying the free wifi. Plus, it's super family friendly - there's the pub area, the outdoor area, and a restaurant style area. Sunday roast, etc... Okay, there's a lot of things I like. The things I don't like: On occasion, you can find yourself being snubbed. I'm not sure if it is because I go in solo sometimes, but certain employees make you feel rather un-welcome. It's not a posh place but some people like to put on airs... And it is a bit more expensive than necessary. Debbie downer, but still a good place. One of the friendliest and happiest taverns I have seen and been into in a long while...And as a bonus once a Month Tuf Poets have a large Ground floor room next to the bar for a poetry evening..The food menu is excellent as is the selection of ales..Only a two minute walk from Tufnell Park underground station (Northern Line)..If you're not keen on poetry just go anyway for the great atmosphere and beer. read more

I live in the area and it's convenient, but the staff would benefit from an attitude transplant. It's an "everything is just a bit too much trouble" type mentality. Such a shame because the food is nice and the gastro pub feel is big and spacious, but after the 3rd consecutive visit being spoken to like we are an inconvenience and paying a premium for the experience, my family are happy to take ourselves elsewhere. we arrived 21:35 on a saturday evening (5 Oct 14) , I hadn't eaten al day so was looking forward to my meal. We were told the kitchen closed at 22.00 but they would serve us anyway, we placed our order but were told we couldn't sit in the restaurant (where the tables were clean and with candle's and a few other people were sitting) and that the chef already had her jacket on. Instead we were asked to sit on a very dirty table in the pub (without candle). when we asked if it could be cleaned the barmaid didn't seem too happy about it and roughly asked us to lift our glasses. When the food came it was over-salted so extremely that it was hurting the top of my mouth to eat it (which I was trying out of hunger). This seemed almost as though it had been deliberate as it was the same on both plates, and the food underneath the salt tasted ok, Deliberate or otherwise - horrible service and horrible experience/food. read more
