It was a nice sight to see... fresh fish displays, filleting demonstrations and feeding scraps to the sea lions. The line to order food was long and inefficient. Patrons picking up at the window cuts off the order line. It can be confusing at times on who belongs where and some lost their place in line. The poke (forgot to take a pic) was not worth it in my opinion. It had more cubes of watermelon than tuna, which was quite disappointing. Not sure if I would go back. The spiny lobster sold out at about 930a.

If you want super fresh just caught fish from local fishermen at very affordable prices prices go here. Mostly whole fishes but there is a stand where they will cut your fish , clean, etc for a price per pound. A small food stand plus many varieties of seafood depending on the catch tat day. Saturday only 8-1 or when they sell out, get there early for best selections. Beautiful harbor views. Just amazing.

A touristy feature of San Diego downtown Saturday 8am-1pm. Local People line up from 7 am to get the fresh caught crabs in one tent in front of the market that opens about 7:30 am. Price is above average. Service is fish market style. Seafood availability is scarce and depends on catch of the day. Definitely go early as you can since good stuff flys off the shelves very quickly. Parking is a challenge. $10 for 3 hrs if you find a place. You can buy the whole fish and bring to the end to pay for clean up and process. There are some tents to serve food but, again, mostly for tourists. If you have not been there then you should give it a try.

Poke bowl $20

After several failed attempts to make it out on a Saturday morning, the anticipation was building. I had seen so many posts and photos that I saved my appetite to finally indulge. Knowing parking could be expensive and chaotic, we opted to take the trolley instead. Unfortunately, we were disappointed by how few booths were set up. Maybe because it was after 9 a.m., many vendors had already sold out--but it still felt underwhelming. I expected an abundance of fresh food ready to eat on the spot, but there was only one main vendor serving meals. Craving poke, I followed the staff's recommendation and also couldn't resist trying the uni hand rolls. Sadly, the rice cooker broke, and after being told "10 more minutes" repeatedly for over half an hour, I eventually gave up and asked for a refund. The poke bowl was advertised as being mixed with watermelon, which piqued my interest. For $20, I received about 7 small pieces of ahi--flavorful, but oddly dark in color, not the fresh red hue I expected. The watermelon was chopped so finely it was barely noticeable, and the portion overall felt small for the price. The tacos were more like miniature bites than a full serving, though the fish and chips were tasty and seasoned well with Old Bay. I was especially bummed to miss out on the uni. If you're coming to buy fresh fish, there's definitely a wide variety available. I recommend arriving early, bringing your own cooler with ice, and taking advantage of the on-site carving station so you don't have to prep everything at home. Despite the food letdowns, walking around the Seaport area made the trip worthwhile. There were other handmade street vendors, shops, restaurants, food trucks, and just a short walk away is the Little Italy Farmers Market. It's always refreshing to get outside and enjoy the San Diego sunshine.

A San Diego staple ran by a local chef loved by all and has a great relationship with the local fishermen. Get there early cause the line gets long by 10am and popular items do run out. Menu changes often but you can expect uni, fish and chips, spiny lobsters when in season, ceviches and chowder variations.

Tuna and uni

It's great to be able to get fresh fish for fair prices. The people working are cool, especially Luke with the uni ! The customers are often rude and have no concept of personal space so be ready for people up in your biz.

Bluefin Muzubi

Ultra-fresh, high-quality ingredients--especially the seafood. Loved the Bluefin Muzubi! Casual, comfy vibe. Only nitpick: rice in some dishes was a bit cold and hard. Great value for top-tier fresh fish & seafood. Highly recommend!

Uni, fresh, nice presentation.

This was an experience, not just food. Tuna boat, tied up at the dock offloading fresh seafood for sale. Every kind of fish you can think of here in the Southern California waters, lobster, octopus, shrimp, you name it! Not only are they selling the fresh fish but there is a vendor there preparing it to eat there. This was my first time trying Uni, I'll just say my wife loved it, I gave it a chance. The ceviche was some of the best I've ever had. We had a whole lobster, it was cut down the middle, and bbq'ed to perfection on chunks of charcoal. The lobster was so fresh it was moving while being grilled, the charcoal gave it a kiss of smoke flavor. The line here is long, but it goes pretty fast. They only have canned soda and bottles of water. We took our food over to the nearby park and tried to enjoy our food, take into consideration the homeless people there can be a problem, they were for us.

Lots of quality fish and some local vendors even offer the option to cook it up directly on the dock for you! I missed out on the monchong that I was in search of (the fishmonger told me there were only 5 that day) but I scored a whole charcoal-grilled spiny lobster instead. The lobster is taken out of the tank live, chopped in half and grilled while it is still squirming around on the coals. Might be a little graphic for some, but you certainly are getting really fresh high-quality seafood! The lobster meat is sweet, succulent and tender, and they perfectly pair it with some seasoned potatoes and grilled mini sweet peppers. Not a hint of fishyness or unpleasant aromas, and the charcoal smoke further elevates it beyond your typical run-of-the-mill lobster dish in (insert your favorite New American restaurant). For $50 all told it is also an incredible value especially considering that some other establishments in the city will charge you $95 for a 2 lb lobster that does not taste nearly as good. I would estimate the lobster served at at least a pound to a pound and a half depending on the luck of the draw. Definitely go early if you're looking to purchase fresh fish. I showed up around 7:55 (opens at 8) and I was quite shocked by how many people were already there. I definitely missed out on peak selection and should have shown up around 7:30 had I known better. Alas, until next time!

Uni bowl, tuna poke
Kevin T.

This place went viral on social media, but I think it's overrated. The place is super crowded with barely any place to sit and eat. The fish and chips were a little dry. The portions for the uni and tuna bowl were so little. Each bowl was around 20$. I wouldn't come again. Maybe go once just for the vibes of eating fresh seafood by the ocean, but you're not missing much.

The food was really great especially the Uni which was really fresh! The wait time for the line like about 20 minutes (really worth the wait)

We decided to wake up early to explore this beautiful seafood Saturday market in San Diego... they got the best seafood varieties.... first time trying out these delicious sweet shrimps... a bit pricey but definitely worth it!

Wow! The most amazing tuna poke bowl I have ever had! Does not compare to any other poke bowls I've had. The most freshest tuna (just caught in the morning) and marinated with edamame, scallions and papaya (?) it was small cubed fruits. Simply amazing! I could eat this everyday for every meal.

Ask the Community - Tuna Harbor Dockside Market

Is there parking at the market?

Yes, in Seaport Village or street both paid parking.

Are there vendors providing cooking service on fish I just bought?

On their website where they list the weekly catch some items are listed as whole, loin or filet. If it is not noted, such as rockfish, halibut or swordfish can we presume these are filet or steak cuts?

It depends on the vendor. Most of them sell them has whole fish and only serve them as loins or cuts when they have huge fish. There is a stand there that cuts down your fish for you. They only take cash though.

Has anyone purchased oysters recently?

No, I have not seen oysters there.

What time do they open on sundays?

They don't, they are only there on Saturdays, as the hours specify.

Is this market cash only?

My wife bought fish today, used her debit card Credit cards are also accepted. It might depend upon the merchant, though.

The staff will take your order and assign you a table, so do not grab a table without their approval. The seafood all taste fresh. We love the halibut plate with lemon garlic butter. Tip: we went at 2:30p thinking it is after the lunch rush, but the line was out the door on Sunday. We will stick to 15mins before they open.

I asked her what she wanted and she said, "seafood", so I immediately thought of Blue Water, and we drove right over. We parked at a metered spot nearby & walked in at 5pm. Do note that there is no dedicated parking for Blue Water, so at busy times it may be tricky to find a spot, but we had no trouble today. In the main dining ordering area & on the side patio, there were a few tables that were occupied, but there was no ordering line. All of us wanted shrimp today apparently, so my dad and I both got a shrimp taco with lemon garlic butter & my hungry mom got the shrimp platter also with lemon garlic butter. The platter came with 8 shrimp, jasmine rice, and a lovely, fresh garden salad. The server who took our order and brought it out to us was very helpful & nice. They have a ton of fresh seafood on offer though so if shrimp is not your thing, there will likely be another delightful offering from the sea that will suit your fancy. We sat in the side patio area and it was very pleasant. We enjoyed our experience this evening very much! The tacos were big and had more than 5 shrimp in them, plus cabbage, pico, cheddar cheese & white sauce. One taco was pretty decently sized. If I'd been hungrier, two tacos would've been perfect, but today, I was happy with one taco. Yum! Mom enjoyed her platter. It was beautifully prepared. Blue Water also has a decent soft drink selection and beers and wine, but we all just had their water and it was very refreshing! :) By the time we left at 5:45, a line was forming out the door, so we really came out at a good time. Peace!

The large selection seafood is super fresh. A crowd of people were waiting for their food when we arrived. You order and pay at the counter and wait for your order. A large chalk board lists sandwiches, sushi, grilled and fried plate options and a few soups/appetizers. Bottles of wine and beer are available for purchase. I thought the meal prices were very reasonable. We ordered a Combo Plate, Fried Oyster plate and tuna sushi to share. This was a LOT of food but we wanted to share and try different fish. The fried oysters are juicy, flavorful and best fried oysters that I've ever had. The tuna sushi was delicious with the largest chucks of fresh tuna I've ever seen in a sushi roll. The fried cod in the Combo Plate was unexpectedly delicious with a light breading. I don't think I've ever had cod that was this fresh. The fried shrimp was good. The crab cake was a bit disappointing with little flavor and mushy. The generous portion of hand cut fries are fresh and delicious. The coleslaw was fresh and colorful, but didn't have much of a slaw flavor. The slaw was more of a salad, than a slaw. Overall, the food tastes excellent, is fresh and portions are generous. The clerks are friendly, engaging and the food comes out in about 15 minutes. They have a small amount of parking. We walked over from our hotel.

She didn't make us feel rushed despite the growing line behind us (we were truly trying to hurry, though, because of it). If you like sashimi, get their sashimi appetizer! We haven't been able to find a good place for sashimi since we moved to Southern California 5 years ago. Don't get me wrong, we've gotten good sashimi, but not cut thick & with good quality that is worth the price like this place. The price wasn't even as high as many of the other sashimi places we've tried! They give you only 2 fish choices on the plate, however. They have listed about 5 or 6 different kinds, but it depends on what is available. We had salmon & tuna. Salmon is my favorite, but their tuna was fantastic! First time I can say I may have liked it better than the salmon!! Their other dishes we had were also yummy. My daughter loves scallops & they were cooked to perfection. I don't usually like scallops because most places cook them till they're rubbery. Not this place! My husband had swordfish & I had the sea bass. Both were also delicious, but I think they may have mixed up which plate went to which person. Good thing, as we were trying each others' food, my daughter noted the slight texture difference between the two (I hadn't had a chance to taste them yet). Interestingly, swordfish usually has a vastly different texture than bass, but here, they cook it so well, there wasn't a huge amount of difference! That says something since swordfish is usually very "meaty." If my daughter hadn't noticed, I wouldn't have complained even though I was looking forward to the bass. I like flakier fish. However, the bass wasn't as flaky as I anticipated, but both were so tender, the mix-up wasn't a deal breaker. I don't know how they season the rice, but YUM! Even though I'm Asian, I'm not one who usually eats the rice. It's usually just a filler for me, & since I don't eat much, I'd rather eat the "other stuff" & usually leave most of the rice. Not here! I almost couldn't get enough of it, lol! So good!! At the end, we needed boxes. We had to ask two different waitresses since the first one we asked never came with them. It's an "order at the register then find a table" type of place, so there wasnt any "service" to speak of. Be prepared to stand in line - this place is popular for a reason! Parking is a challenge, but worth it. We definitely will be back!
