The highlight of the meal was our friendly waitress Harley. The pizza took over 45 minutes and although the toppings and crust were good the sweet sauce made it less than stellar to me. I could only eat one piece. Luckily we also shared a steak salad. I had asked for honey mustard instead of balsamic and only after I had used dressing to cover my part did I realize they never switched the dressing. The place was crowded and they accommodated my request to sit early to wait for my guests. So five stars for staff.. 3 for food.

This is some of the best pizza in the area - and that includes their gluten-free crust! The flavor combinations they have are absolutely delicious and the gf crust is nice and flaky! The only small issue is that this little haven does not have gluten-free bread, so the sandwiches that are probably also delicious aren't quite accessible to me. They do have gf pasta though and the penne al a vodka is phenomenal! The bar is also so beautiful, it feels like sitting in medieval English pub and the atmosphere is so lively fan fun! The service is always super fast too - even when the bartender is super busy, they are so attentive! All in all - definitely worth a visit!

I swear I have been to this restaurant since I recognized the odd parking arrangement along the creek when their tiny lots are filled. Inside is cozy and homey with three seating areas, on either side of the bar area. The building is obviously built on the side of a hill since the seating area are on 3 different levels. Once inside, I was seated right away in the bar area, likely where I sat last time too.... but this time at a high-top table. After looking over the menu, they have a nice mix of choices from apps, salads, entrees, sandwiches, grinders and pizza, of course. They even had mashed potato pizza (one of my childhood favorites) and clam pizza (which I recently tried in another nearby state). This visit, I settled on a nicely priced steak tip salad and a French onion soup. Soup - pretty good and hearty with lots of caramelized onions at the bottom, then a layer of breadcrumbs, then the 2 cheeses melted all over the bowl. Steak Salad - a nice-looking salad with tender steak (tenderloin) pieces which taste like they were cooked over charcoal. I admit I did have to cut a few larger pieces of the steak since it was cut against the grain which made it unnecessarily chewy. Service here was great. My server, along with a couple of other employees, stopped by regularly to either take away trash, remove empty drink glasses or just check on me. I ended up adding a peanut butter pie. It's not homemade but it's passable. It has a mint layer toward the bottom which I wasn't a big fan of.

I've been here twice in the past week, first w nephew / Godson Joey (in from California, on his way to Italy), and then, a few days later, with friend, Karen. On both occasions, the joint was jumping, parking was a challenge, and the noise level was a bit high, BUT... service (Noah on Saturday, Katie on Thursday) was exceptional, as was the food. Joey and I split an order of eggplant fries, perfectly cooked, lightly dusted w parmesan cheese, and came w a side of very good marinara sauce. Very fresh (definitely not frozen from a bag). And generous portion. Highly recommend. I also had Reuben rolls (very good), while Joey went w a salmon (blackened) salad. We both rated everything 5 stars. With Karen, I took a cue from Joey and had the blackened salmon salad (shredded Brussels sprouts, craisins, candied pecans, bacon, in a light vinaigrette), while Karen opted for the steak tips salad (romaine, red onion, other salady type things). We both enjoyed. Overall, great service, really good food, reasonable prices (although $7 for a glass of Stella's is pushing it). 4.5 stars

    Blackened salmon

I dined in here recently when catching up with a friend. The service was great, and the food... amazing! My friend tried the strawberry lemonade and I tried the blueberry lemonade. Both are delicious! They ordered the blackened salmon, which came with seasoned potatoes and string beans. I had the blackened chicken pasta with creamy cajun sauce topped on linguine, minus the mushrooms. Each entree came with the choice of a house salad or caesar salad. The portions were generous and good quality. Maybe a basket of fresh hot garlic bread would pair well with the meals. I am not certain if bread is given on the house, like other restaurants. We didn't opt for dessert because the meals were filling. They have about 5 selections to choose from including a key-lime pie, a layered cake, and a cheesecake. There are restrooms that are away from where diners are seated. The designer was very thoughtful in selecting where to construct the washroom. The restroom was clean. There are multiple entrances and handicap parking for accessibility. There is outdoor seating available which can be great to drive outdoors during warmer summer months. There is parking on both sides of the restaurant. The parking lot might fill up pretty quickly, especially on a weekend or holiday. We went on a weekday and when leaving, one parking lot was filled. Overall, I think you won't be disappointed if you decide to dine here.

    Corned beef egg rolls!
    Scott T.

Tunxis Grill is a hidden gem that delivers on both flavor and hospitality. Their corned beef egg rolls are absolutely amazing--crispy on the outside, packed with tender, flavorful corned beef, and paired with a dipping sauce that takes them over the top. It's the kind of appetizer you order once and immediately want again. Beyond the great food, the staff here is incredibly friendly and welcoming. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with warmth, and the service is attentive without being overbearing. Order these pieces of heaven before they sell out!

    Quinoa bowl with grilled chicken
    Tom M.

Service was good. From the host who seated me, to Lindsay our server, service was friendly and responsive. There were a few healthy options and I chose the quinoa bowl but wanted to add grilled chicken and salmon. I was happily surprised that an avocado was standard for the quinoa bowl since I was trying to decide between that and the superfood salad which listed it on its menu. However, I was very surprised to find out that they did not scoop the avocado out of its skin?!? Not sure how clean it was to have the shell placed in the middle of a bowl, but I'll have to have faith that they cleaned it first! There was also some issue with the salmon in that it was overcooked, but gratefully, they took it back and prepared a new one. The food was good and I would likely give it another try, but there was nothing that I would consider outstanding.

    Seafood risotto
    Leslie P.

The seafood risotto is simply amazing. Plenty of jumbo shrimp and the sauce was amazing. Was here for a group dinner and all 4 of us got it. If you're curious or on the fence, I would highly recommend you to come try it!

I celebrated my girlfriend's birthday here last week. We had a great time. The food was very good. I had their special for the day. It was seared sea scallops with fettuccine with spinach and garnished with bacon. It was so flavorful and delicious. We ordered the chicken and avocado roll. I would pass. It was very dry and bland. They have a great cocktail selection. I had the "Flirtini". It's my favorite. The bartender got it perfectly. Our server's name was Courtney. She was awesome. She gave us good suggestions. When you walk inside. You are greeted and you are seated promptly. It's a very nice ambiance. I will be returning. To all my yelpers. Let's continue to eat our way through the world.

    Chicken parm
    Audrey G.

We are in Windsor Locks on our way north and saw the reviews for Tunxis. Wow! What a great find! I had the chicken parm and it was delish and enough for 3 people! The linguini under the huge chicken breast was perfectly Al dente. Loved it. The photo was taken after I'd eaten not even half! Diner number 2 ordered Edna's lasagne. It was scrumptious! Diner number 3 had penne a la vodka. Yummy sauce! It was great! All the dinners came with large salads and rolls were served for the table as well. The service was friendly and the place is nice looking. Large portions and really good tasting food! If I ever find myself in this area again I will definitely be back. Lucky for you if you live near here!!

Great setting good service best food great drink drinks. Nothing more to say. Keep up the amazing work.

Make sure you come hungry, the proportions are huge! The ambiance was nice, good drink menus and the prices were very fair. The service was great, our server was very attentive and accommodating to our fairly large group. This place leans Italian, though they consider themselves American. Offering pizza, traditional Italian dishes like chicken parm and penne ala vodka , but also offering other options as well such as burgers, meatloaf and a range of different dishes. I had a chicken parm and substituted the linguini and marinara with penne ala vodka. The chicken portion was huge, but cooked perfectly. The penne was great though the vodka sauce was on the watery side. The bread at the table was hot and fresh. The only thing missing from the menu was a cappuccino. Overall great experience, and will likely be back next time I'm in town.

The food was unacceptable across the board. The salmon made some guests sick. The steak was overcooked, served with gravy no one asked for, and came out room temperature. The stuffing tasted spoiled and was served over what seemed like old shrimp. The vegan pasta was so bad it made that guest nauseous. Several people who ordered prime rib had to send it back just to be further cooked, and even the dessert tasted outdated. It was honestly embarrassing. Trying to address this made things worse. I called and spoke with Chris, the manager, who was rude, condescending, and repeatedly talked over me. Instead of listening, he kept insisting how "excellent" the food was. He was also irritated that I called from a blocked number, even after I explained I had been trying to reach the restaurant since the previous Sunday with no answer and no returned calls. I have never been treated with that level of disrespect by a restaurant, especially after such a poor experience. Between the food and the way this was handled, I would not recommend Nutmeg Restaurant for any event or special occasion. The owner called me back, and the audacity of him to block his number, took no accountability, and to be extremely rude again was unbelievable. He told me to report it to the health department, and I absolutely will be doing that and taking this as far as I can. If you look at the other reviews, the food was bad for other people too, so I'm left wondering if the better reviewers paid.
