5 Lira for a shave? - Now that's a bargain. And it was a good shave...well, if I can say as much,…read morebecause after all this was my first shave at a traditional barber.
I'm really lazy when it comes to shaving and so going to a barber for a shave seems to be the perfect solution for me. During my last visit to Istanbul, I asked my colleague to recommend me a local barber and she told me to come her. (It's obviously not HER local barber, but her Dad's ;-)
And the recommendation was a good one. Thankfully, though, I had my colleague with me so that she could do the translation bit for me. (Given that this place is in the heart of Kadiköy and thus not yet flocked with tourists, the likelihood of English-speaking staff is less high.)
I have to add on that this is not a hot-towel shave with head massage, but the shave nevertheless was close and I didn't experience any irritated skin, which is what I heard many people say happens when you go to a barber for the first time.
