Easy for taller van and Rv car washes but busy!!! Pricey gas but it's shell! If it's what you want or you use a cars of theirs, it's a convenient location to stop on trip or as a local to grab what you need... Seems like during Covid they've had the option to have either self service or some more human service washes depending on the lane you enter, self serve tends to still be hanging to the right days and the left for more human service. The store inside has a decent selection of snacks and drinks hot coffee etc. good place to grab a quick thermos of hot water and a pinch on a trip especially for Van Life or's or RV people if you need to stop you should be able to pull in without too many clearance issues even if you have to hang to the side of it. Can be a little busy and difficult to get in and out on the corner with how many people utilize it however if you want to use this company's gas, the you can deal! Otherwise a lot of customers go across the street corner diagonally to Fuel Depot, which can be a bit more price competitive in big fill ups I use them more often and their machine function also sells car washes to the turnpike shell car wash... They also have air filling stations and vacuums in the back and on the side as well as an outdoor sink for washing hands which is very helpful if you've been servicing your car or doing anything else especially for travelers who stopped and maybe don't have a better way to clean up. Otherwise run over to in and out if you can stand it and the parking lots have driveways that cross in between so just be careful and mindful of people going different directions as a lot of out-of-towners don't really understand which driveways to use and how to be polite ;) so it can get jammed up at moments. I suggest just being patient or going during slower times if you're concerned. read more

I don't go inside much, but generally like Point Markets. Gas is gas. What I DO like is the car wash: reasonably priced hand wash, nice people, no spinning brushes, flappers or tracks on the ground to guide the wheels. If you have a car that is lowered and/or has low profile tires and nice rims, it's really the ONLY drive up option that won't ruin your car. You have to do your own interior, but can be done at the stations as you exit the wash or at home. read more

The self service car wash is located right next to the pumps but we did not use it. The bathrooms were clean, the convenience store was stocked with vast amounts of sweet, savory, and salty snacks (including local beef jerky my personal favorite). I love the car wash here! The employees are so nice and do such a great job! You can tell that they care and put effort into their work. The car wash is also a decent price. At first they hand wash and rinse, then you drive into the second part of the wash which is mechanical. It lets you know when to drive forward and when to stop and there is a 90-second dryer to drive through at the end. Got gas from here because I wanted a car wash (heads up they don't do any deals like get 10 cents off If you get a car wash or want to add a car wash for $5 vs $15 if you didn't get gas). When it prompted if I wanted a car wash I said yes but wish they posted the price of it more clearly ( gasoline hose covered the sign that had the price and description of the different washes they had) I opted for the cheap one but somehow it thought I wanted the $15 wash. When I went to get the car wash it didn't work. Apparently when it asked me If I wanted a car wash, it failed to notify me that I wouldn't be able to get the wash that day. The hours of the car wash are until 5pm or so and I was there way later. When I asked if I could get a refund, was informed there was no manager there on duty and I would have to come back tmrw or tell my credit card company to do a charge back. Coming to this gas station was already out of my way so I wasn't happy and came back to get my car wash. The good thing about the wash is that they dont use brushes to clean the car, but the trade off is not being able to clean as well, see the pictures. I hope they consider changing the option of not asking people if they want a car wash after 4:30 so others aren't in the same boat as me. read more

terrible customer service. coffe area is always a mess, out of half and half cram mostly every other day. Extremely rude staff and terrible customer service. Yesterday around 8:30 am like every day I went to get some coffe, the machine for the coffe cream was empty so I aks the Lady in the cash register to please replace it. her response was not very pleasant, she was very rude and her coworker (male) was saying something that I couldn't understand. coffe area was filthy as well and not very organized. too bad for the great coffe. read more

COVID-19 review This is my favorite place to get gas and my car washed. The staff have always been friendly and took extra measures to clean the pumps. The car wash is the real gem! Those guys do a great pre-wash and make sure to get all the gunk off your car. They are efficient and have a great work ethic. For a town with perfect weather and an exuberant amount of expensive cars, I am truly blown away at the limited options of decent automatic car washes in Santa Barbara proper. Of course there are multiple self-wash options, but I am far too lazy for that and refuse to get drenched. I have literally had my car (who goes by "Ariel") washed at every available automatic car wash in the city limits of Santa Barbara/Goleta. Don't believe me? - Shell at 3060 State: I have paid for this wash once before not knowing they do not have an air dryer/blower as you exit, so you need to drive 70 miles per hour down the freeway to dry your car off. - Prestige Hand Car Wash: This was my "go to" choice, until I had items stolen from my vehicle while it was in the wash. - The Point Market at Walnut Shell: The wash is extremely slow, particularly the payment machine, which leads to a regular line-up of vehicles. - Wash N Go: Overpriced for a simple wash, plus there's almost an expectation to fill up on gas too. I could list more, but instead, I'll spare my fingers from typing and your eyes from reading an endless novel. The Central Coast has an awful lot of dust, pollen and sap that are attracted to Ariel. Not to mention all poop-filled seabirds (perhaps they view Ariel's as a bullseye?!--one of my many theories) and salty ocean mist that comes with being near the ocean. If you visit during normal business hours (Mondays-Saturdays 8:30 am - 6:30 pm & Sundays 9 am - 5 pm), the two far left automatic, brushless car washes include workers that hand wash and rinse your car before entering the drive-thru machines. TIP THESE HARD WORKING MEN! Once you pull in the Deluxe Wash includes a clean, wash, rainbow tri-foam (my favorite!), sealant, spot free rinse and an exit dryer. Afterwards there are vacuums, drying rags for purchase and a place to beat your floor mats. On the far right, they also have self-wash garages for those who are obsessed with their cars and are not lazy like myself. The prices over the last year have gone up twice, which is disappointing (hence the loss of one star). You also now only have two automatic options (instead of three): $13 Basic and $15 Deluxe. Nonetheless, I frequent this Turnpike Shell Station strictly for their car wash. read more

I'm really disappointed in tonight. I came in for a car wash, paid $13 for the works, which seemed to be the most expensive option, and I'm pretty sure my car came out dirtier than when it went in. First of all, I was excited to hear that this place was of higher quality than the one on Hollister- who told me this? Someone who works at the Shell, because apparently the machines are much better! So I came here. Leaves and excess debris all over my car, dirt patches and dried up dusty water marks. Now, my boyfriend is a lot nicer in these circumstances and told me that the employee was nice, but to me, I'm just disappointed that they really couldn't do anything about it. I have been going to this corner market/gas station for over 20 years. Since the "Point Market" has taken over it has just gotten better and better. For me the one thing that stands out about this market is the customer service. I don't think I've ever been to another gas station market anywhere that has had the consistent, genuine, friendly and helpful customer service that this place has. Everyone at this store has always greeted me friendly, and been pleasant with all my transactions and questions. Even when breaking a hundred dollar bill on a low drawer (register) For an coffee and kit kat bar, Hector was more than happy to make it happen without a flinch or hesitation. On the topic of coffee, I haven't seen another gas station offer the quality of coffee this place has. The machines actually grind your coffee and brew it fresh right in front of you! And damn.. it's good. If I had to complain about one thing it would be trying to navigate through the gas station lot on a busy Sunday afternoon. Clean bathrooms are a plus. read more

I went to go rinse off my car this past Thursday around 5. I use the car wash services a couple times a week. The one closest to the store has not taken dollar bills for a long time. I went inside to ask for quarters. The guy ( a female was there, too) handed me 3 different dollars. I told him the machine would not accept dollars. He yelled at me saying 'we don't have quarters!". The other employee just stared back. I told them they should know their equipment. This is the rudest treatment I have experienced in several years. I used to live around the corner from this Shell Station and it was what one would expect from an average gas station. I visited today on my way north and was taken aback by the cleanliness of the gas station. I was most impressed by the free full, clean washer fluid (not the cheap kind) and cleaning windshield squeegee, which was brand new and didn't leave streaks. Very nice! This car wash used to be great. And they used to have people that would pre wash and hand scrub your car before you went in. This made a big difference, and was what set you apart from all of the other car wash places! Today was my first time here since they put in the new carwash, and the new one is HORRIBLE! This photo of the back of my car shows that the back half of my little car somehow didn't even get WET going through this carwash! And the rest of my car doesn't look much better. To be honest... I run customer service teams and I was completely dumbfounded as to how a simple solution to a customer problem was not addressed. I received a car wash this morning an my way to work (paid for their Works car wash) and when I got to work, I saw that there was still ash all over my car from the recent fires. I was thinking I'd go back at lunch time and see if they would let me pass through the other car wash bay just in case there was something wrong with the one I went through earlier. At lunch, I went to the station to see if they would look at my truck and come up with a solution (thinking a simple second pass would clean my car). I spoke with the manager (she was nice) and she stated that she needed to talk with the car wash guys. She came back and said that I needed to pay for another wash. There was no way around it. Making a happy customer was not on the agenda apparently for something so simple and wouldn't cost hardly anything. I paid full price BTW for the Works wash (and didn't take the discount for getting gas even though I put $75 in during my lunch break when I returned for the additional wash). Sounds like the car wash guys made the decision, but I would think that the Manager would have a say in the situation. If it were my company, I'd do what it takes to make the customers happy (within reason). read more

I have been going to this Shell location for years, partly because of its location. It has higher prices than the station across the street, but I go in large part for the car wash. However, I'm done. Never going back. I bought a car wash over 60 days ago, but due I didn't make it back at a time when the line was manageable or I had time. I just went in the fill up and use the car wash, but the manager wouldn't honor the code. This is a policy I simply don't understand. If I buy a gift card, it doesn't expire. If I pay full price for something, it should be honored. In an age when customer experience means so much, my experience at Shell was abysmal. No reason for the policy. No apology. Good quality car wash for what you get. They have three different levels, for $9, $10, or $11. It's really only worth it if you go during business hours, but then it's REALLY worth it. They have somebody handwash your car, and then you go through the automatic washer. There are spots afterwards to vacuous your car. As the other reviewers have said, the wait times can be long, but if you have the time to spare give it a shot! read more

I really wanted to like Turnpike Carwash, but I don't think I'll be going back after two miserable experiences. Both times, I filled my gas tank across the street at the Fuel Depot to take advantage of lower fuel prices when you buy a car wash (they're owned by the same guy). However, the Fuel Depot is a completely automated station and there is no attendant. You're supposed to get a receipt, which you can take across the street to redeem for the car wash. Unfortunately, the machine didn't give a receipt both times. And since there is no attendant, it is really difficult to get anything resolved quickly. There isn't a phone number either. I had to go to the Shell gas station attendant and explain my situation, and then they have to call the manager. I had to meet up with the manager a week later to get the car wash - a huge pain. I even used a different pump station for my second try. The same thing happened - no receipt. At least the Shell attendant was able to give me a car receipt on the spot. They need to fix the pump stations so they give receipts every time. Or, reroute the systems to print out the receipts at the Shell instead. It's unacceptable as it currently is. Also, it is ridiculous to charge an extra $1 for every 4 minutes to use the vacuum after the car wash. That should be included, free of charge. read more

I took my excursion there this Sunday 7/19/17 the two guys that helped us had an attitude even before they started. Seeing that I had such a big car they didn't start directing me until they saw I was going to hit something when clearly the carwash was saying "DRIVE". Only gets 2 stars because of the nice man who showed me how to work the machine, the car wash was a complete waste of money. I might as well flushed $10 down the drain and left my car in the rain. Went through the wash portion, which seemed fine, then came the 'vortex dryer'. The directions said "drive through slowly, dry time 90 sec" I put my clutch in and didn't touch the gas, when I came out my car was still covered with water spots like it just rained and it was never dried. I'm not usually particular about car washes or the drying, but I do expect my car to be mostly dry and not have to turn on the whippers to clear the windshield . read more

He took two trash bags, a cardboard box, lined the perfect sized box and showed me how I can close the flaps if I needed to close the top. What service people!!!
