I would not recommend Shamsi Academy to my worse enemy. In all my 38 years of life I have never…read morebeen treated with such disrespect by any company. My niece needed to take her driving test. Last month we used Greg's driving school. They were excellent. Unfortunately when I called them to schedule they were booked for the summer. I searched on line and found Shamsi the worse driving on the planet. When I called to schedule the Mr. Ali told me I had to come in and pay and fill out paperwork. My first initial visit was OK. I asked if he would be giving my niece her 30 minutes practice and taking her to the MVA. I was sceptical because he was an older gentleman and was moving very slow. He told me another man name Zullar would be giving her practice and then let her drive to the MVA. A minute later I met Zullar. He repeated what Mr. Ali said. I explained to both gentle men that this would be my nieces second attempt and that she had everything she needed. The following week we showed up a few minutes earlier our appointment was at 10:30 a.m. we were there at 10:15. Mr. Ali told us to wait a few minutes he would be with us soon. At 10:30 on the dot Mr.Ali came back I assumed she would begin her practice immediately since that was the agreement 10:30 to 11 practice then head to the MVA, test was scheduled for 11:45. Mr. Ali begins looking through my nieces paperwork, I said everything is complete she has taken her driving and did not pass that is why we are here, can she begin her practice now. He ignored me and kept looking through the papers. Then I asked where is Zullar, Mr. Ali said he would be coming soon. After about 10 more minutes of slowly fumbling through paperwork and ignoring me he heads to the car with my niece to practice. After 10 minutes they were still in the parking space! I went to the car asked why haven't she started driving we are over 20 minutes in to her 30 minutes of practice. He told me relax and have a seat inside. I was on fire by now but I new I had to relax because we had to get to the MVA. At 11:15 or so my niece walks back in without Mr.Ali, I ask her where he went she said she has know idea he did not say a thing to her. I called Zullar to find out what was going on no answer. I called Mr. Ali to ask what was going on he told me that he was responsible for my niece and that I could leave their and Zullar is stuck in traffic. I told him that I absolutely will not leave my niece and I planned to follow behind her and Zullar to the MVA. Then I asked why did you leave us with no explanation and shorted her practice he rudely shouted we are professionals I said professionals do not treat paying customers this way. About 11:25 Zullar comes in. I was in disbelief when the first sentence out of his mouth was " you can not sit there that is the office chair I said excuse me you decide to show up with out even a explanation of what kind business you are running and I can't sit he said you could sit in another seat I said am not sitting any where my nieces appointment is in 15 minutes! He rudely said I know what time her appointment is. I began following them to the MVA of course he drove because he came late. I was so grateful I new where the MVA was, he was driving so fast I could barely keep up. By the grace of GOD, we arrived in line at 11:43. My niece passed her driving test. I was so happy that all the stress of the morning did not ruin her concentration. He did appolige, it met nothing to be he should have apologized the minute he arrived late. The worse driving school in history, they have no business being opened! I rate them zero stars.

We brought our 2.5 year old to see Mandy and were with her for approximately 1.5 years. Mandy…read moreprovided just the right advice as well as engagement for our child (and as new parents, her experienced guidance and suggestions throughout also gave us peace of mind). Our toddler at the time was very shy, so her approach of play-based speech therapy was the ideal fit for a shy kiddo. He looked forward to sessions and didn't realize it was "work", but instead saw it as a fun activity where he was able to play with a variety of toys with an energetic playmate. I don't see how Mandy has the energy to play with the little ones all day, but she does--and really seems to enjoy it. The play/session environment is comfortable, welcoming, clean, and has a toy store's worth of different toys (and Mandy is always trying out new ones for the repertoire). Mandy immediately identified a structural issue that a previous formal evaluation from another speech therapist missed. Our child progressed wonderfully and is now outgoing, able to express himself clearly and with a range of vocabulary and sentence structures, and is doing advanced language and verbal work at school. We are very satisfied and highly recommend Bethesda Speech for Kids and Mandy.

Mandy has made an enormous difference in the life of my 9yo. My son has been in and out of various…read morespeech pathologist's offices since he was 4, and I could never hear or see a measurable difference in his speech until we found Mandy. The difference in a year with her is greater by far than the difference in 5 years with everyone else combined. I cannot say enough good things about our experience with her. She is incredibly effective as a speech pathologist, and the results are really clear. Even more than that, she is flexible, patient, adaptive and works with my son rather than at him. Her humor shines through steadily, and she is very kind, and my son can sense that and relaxes with her. She has specific, targeted exercises and games she goes through with him - he has only begun to figure out that the games are work - and gives us home practice in such a way that he knows what he needs to be doing and how to do it. My son can be a handful - so she works in movement breaks and tunes the games to his interests and approaches it with humor that makes him feel welcome. She gives prizes after so many stickers earned - set at a reasonable, attainable pace - and I noticed that, having figured out my son liked puzzles and stuffed animals, that the prizes being offered have quietly become things he enjoys. He vibrates for the opportunity to win them. Even the games have become quietly tuned to his needs and preferences; I've never seen so many games of Memory played. My son invented his own version of Go Fish with the articulation cards, and she went so far as to write down the rules so they could play it again. Seriously, she is *amazing*. As a note: my son went from throwing tantrums at the very idea of speech to cheerfully practicing at home and happily showing up to his speech therapy. Because she praises him for his effort and his progress and specifically what he is doing right, he can aim for that specific thing again and *believes her* when she tells him he's working and she can tell. I cannot tell you what a difference that has made. Most importantly, my son went, in less than a year, from being unintelligible unless someone had known him for years, to being a confident, talkative, outgoing kid with a lot to say. A few months in with Mandy, I stopped having to 'translate' for him. Months ago, he suddenly started talking non stop, because he could be understood and heard and participate. Before that, he only spoke that much with me, and he chose the most efficient script to short hand what he wanted to communicate, as speaking was tedious and hard work and he might have to repeat himself five times. Now, he is speaking happily and with assurance with his friends and with his teachers, and does not hesitate to step up and speak when called upon to do so. Mandy has made SUCH a difference in his life, and I am forever grateful. She is worth every penny and moment of time. I highly recommend her; you won't find a better speech pathologist.
