I attended this school around 2010. In year seven a combination of non-violent bullying and…read morehorrible teaching gave me post-traumatic stress disorder I doubt I'll ever fully recover from. My science/homeroom/human relations teacher would routinely make basic mistakes (such as claiming things spin in the same direction regardless of which direction they were locked at from). When I corrected her she would spend several minutes arguing with me instead of teaching. The school did nothing about the bullying, which taught me that going to teachers was useless, and subsequently I got into many fights against bullies and people who were breaking rules. The school's policy regarding punishment was unclear, but may have been based on a combination of gender and responsibility. When a group of boys attacked me unprovoked and I fought back, I and one of them were suspended for a day. When I provoked a girl who attacked me and I fought back, I was suspended for five days, while she wasn't punished at all. The girl's family was told about my punishment, while I was never told what the (probably nonexistent) penalties were for the people I told on. Some of the teachers were okay and even good, but some were beyond sitcom dysfunctional school terrible. One teacher was asked whether a student could get a drink, and he said "only if you finish all your work before class ends." The student did not, and minutes later the teacher drank from his water bottle and said "mmm delicious." Another teacher who I would correct got his revenge by marking me unfairly poorly. In case you think that's just paranoia, this is a man who when someone else corrected him, claimed "I was just testing you." There were a good variety of subjects and extracurricular activities though. I enjoyed debating, chess and working on the school magazine.

The school moto "facta non verba" is at the heart of encourage the students to be action orientated, to follow their passions and work towards achieving their own personal goals. I would highly recommend Star of the Sea to any parent seeking a supportive and encouraging environment for their daughters secondary education.
