Lovely place for the real ale drinker. Always a great choice of ales...and it's in a superb setting.

Great beer selection and wonderful beer garden. Service very slow on a Monday afternoon during high season, but otherwise a great pub.

    Review Highlights - Tweedies Bar

There was a good amount of outside seating to take in the last of the sunshine then a roaring fire for when we got chilly and moved inside.

Relax here, the staff is ready to make this luxury even better with whatever you need! Directions to many local hikes or hot coffee on the picnic tables. So much fun to have, there are gardens, strolls, patios and quiet libraries too. This is the most beautiful place I've ever stayed because I can get some rest, unwind and enjoy the great outdoors. Yesterday there was a local marathon- yes!- great runners charged past into the local town of Ambleside. Hikers and dog lovers are here too. National parks close by... what a get-away we are having!!

Brunch, lunch, dinner, and bar snacks are served at the Drunken Duck, and I'd only really recommend booking for dinner. The beer and cider are mostly local I believe. We did the curry bowl to share (vegetarian and VERY tasty - kind of wish I could get the recipe), scampi, fries, and tartare sauce (those fries are to die for!) and the lamb kofta, hummus, flatbread, and mint yoghurt (great for sharing and noshing). There's plenty of parking on the side of the inn. The inside is decorated beautifully (very insta-worthy), so maybe consider renting out for an event. And yes, you can bring your dog to dinner/drinks.

The two bar meals areas were pretty full, so I ate outside. This is in July. I only had to wait four minutes for my order to arrive, beautifully cooked haddock in batter, proper chips and mushy peas with mint.(see the photo!) I thought that it was reasonable at £7.95 and one of half a dozen cooked lunches at that price. They also do a two course meal (for the over 60s) for £5.95. There are also a good range of lighter options for lunch. Puddings however were disappointing, they sounded great, but were £5.45. One of the things which I should have born in mind is that, because it is such a tourist hot spot, normal prices are generally suspended. As a result the main courses were cheap, but the puddings the usual!! I enjoyed my bitter and there was a good selection of real ales, and also wines. The Queen's Head also does bed and breakfast. It costs £45 per person per night at the moment, according to the village website.

This is thankfully an exception to the rule! Food is still excellent - difficult to think of where I've had better fish and chips - and the real ales on offer are delicious. This was our final stop on our whistle tour capturing Langdale Valley and Ambleside along the way - and it was fitting end to a blissful trip. We arrived at 5:20pm yet the evening food menu comes out at 6pm (take note of that), so there was a perfect amount of time to nurse a pint of local ale and enjoy the last of the sunshine! When you do get the menu's pay attention to the left side as that shows you the special which change daily! I went for the Steak, Ale & Mushroom pie, which came with a choice of chips or house potatoes and some veggies! My girlfriend had the Sausage and Mash which she only managed to eat half of - due to a full tummy not lack of taste in the food. The menu wasn't huge but it was varied enough to suit all tastes and the food arrived within about 25 minutes which is pretty spot on for pub cooked grub! Choice of beers and ales is great and they have some fantastic seasonal beers on tap from local brewers Coniston Brewery! If you're planning a trip up here, The Britannia Inn is one to most definitely add to your list!
