29th Street is a shopping center. It's about four blocks of stores centered around 29th St. The street is not closed to vehicular traffic, so it's not a mall in that sense. Plenty of nice stores here. It's not exactly a fun place to be. You'd come here if you want something specific, but it doesn't seem like a place where you would want to hang out or walk around. read more

Covid Update: I have little need to go to a mall these days but a few instances occurred and I found that some curbside pickups were necessary. This review relates to the actual original outdoor shopping center/mall area, north of the Canyon access anchored by Macy's. I sure was surprised to see some stores in new locations since I had not been in months due to Covid regulations. Each time I noticed how busy the Apple Store is, but well structured to safely serve and I have detailed that in my Apple Store review. I did see several empty storefronts of shops that have not survived the pandemic. But I saw Moosejaw working on its new location, not far from the Starbucks, a few stores away on that same sidewalk. I heard that Lululemon was taking Moosejaw's old location. Loft is gone but that big space is one of these Amazon "brick and mortar" stores. It wasn't mentioned who was taking Lululemon's old space but I gather is was committed. J.Jill was open too. And it appeared that Sur La Table was still open though I have read that many of their stores nationwide are closing. The sidewalks on each side are marked with tape and arrows for one-way lanes. Please try to observe this when you are there. Some were and some were not. And though it is an outside mall and masks are only required inside each store or if you cannot maintain 6' outside, please realize that on a busy day, many many people are within 6' of each other and it sure would be courteous to leave them on as you pass by in these lanes. The sidewalks just aren't that wide and some of us with health risks do have to venture out occasionally for a quick pickup to support our local businesses. Also, there are sections of the diagonal parking spaces here and there along that section of street for curbside pickup parking. Please try to respect that too. I hope that as these businesses work out a system which maximizes their ability to operate, that we all do our best to support them. read more

Back in July 2014, I spent over a week in Denver. I drove my friend and I up to Boulder one day and spent the day together. She had recommended visiting Twenty Ninth Street. It's designed to look like a neighbourhood, but it's essentially an open mall with its centre used for music and arts events when it's warm outside. I parked in an indoor parking lot. It's free. We then walked over to the mall. There is a decent selection of stores. I recall visiting a handful of them that are worth of mentioning: - Apple store, where I got a keychain lightning connector that you can sync and charge your iPhone - Sephora, where I got my free birthday beauty gift (works in both the States and Canada when you are a beauty insider member) - Papyrus, where I used an e-mail offer to buy three cards and get one for free We spent a lot of time listening to various musical bands play smack in the middle of the mall. We sat there and had a nice time. Folks were dancing and having a blast. It was pretty seeing the Rocky Mountains as the natural backdrop. There were also food vendors around. We had already eaten lunch, so we didn't get anything. Folks here were nice no matter which store I was in. I enjoyed my time here. (264) read more

I love how clean this area is and how all of the shops here have dealt with covid. I have come here regularly over the years but more recently realized how much I love this area of Boulder. It's full of great shops and while parking outside of the garage area can be challenging, it never feels over crowded or uncomfortable. It flows well and has a good selection of places to go. read more

This mall was damn boring and not fun!!! Very cliche, very predictable. I had guessed already what stores this place would have before arriving. No food court, no fun game stores, or activities to do. Just hardcore shopping. No unique dining experiences. Mostly fast foods, but no cool restaurants or even decent fast food. Lots of annoying capitalism screaming everywhere. DUH-- everything here is CAPITALISM- YOU'RE AN IDIOT IF YOU DON'T GET THAT!! But-- Twenty Ninth Street Mall makes it obvious. It screams and shouts Capitalism in your face. No small businesses, no uniqueness, mostly annoying huts that i can find near my area. I love Pearl St. Mall wayyyyyyyy better. It's more pleasant to shop. The only place i loved here was literally Macy's and Sephora. read more

Not many towns have access to cool and hip shops within walking distance of their downtown. The Twenty Ninth Street offers just that. Aside form ample parking (both parking lot and adjoined parking garage) there is space to relax and hang outdoors. Just this season the 29th street mall added a massive checkerboard game, bean bag toss, and squares of green space with pillows (think astro turf grass). The actual 29th street section of the mall has been closed on many occasions for events and local happenings (Firefly Market, Clips n' Beer Tour, Bike to Work week celebration, live music, etc.) which I've had the pleasure to enjoy/take part in. There are also a variety of restaurants to dine at or pick up a snack. Nothing quite beats a lunch meeting at Panera while gazing out at the Flatirons from the patio area. There are many needs that can be met while visiting this mall, from getting my eye exam at Lens Crafters, picking up that mascara that just ran out at Sephora, perusing the Anthropologie sale rack for a gift for that hard to please friend, to having my iPhone serviced by the Genius bar at the Apple store. For me it's pretty much a one stop shop. Friends enjoy classes at the Barre studio as well as the yoga studio, and my colleague enjoyed many a a brow shape during her lunch hour at Zinke Knoebel Hair Studio. Overall I'm really pleased with this mall and new stores keep popping up. It's a one stop shop for visiting friends/family as well. i've deducted one star as the skating rink has been removed and Spooner's has left. read more

The new open air 29th street mall of Boulder may at first seem a bit American-gaudy, but when you put it into perspective, it is a vast improvement. The perspective is this: the previous Crossroads Mall...SUCKED. I mean hard...I mean waste of space. So now that they have totally renovated the baby, even connecting Canyon to 30th and having 28th once again be a meaningful street, this place gets my whole-hearted support. Oh, and they have a Chipotle...! The 29th street mall is just starting up, as can be seen by the mainly empty 2nd floor. Still, it seems a viable alternative to Pearl Street, in that it is also pretty nice and you can actually find parking and more useful (less window shopping) stores in it. read more

The only place in town that power washes their sidewalk. I've never been yelled at by a homeless person at 29th street mall, in fact I don't think I ever see any there. Lots of benches, cool places to take pictures. Super cute Christmas decorations. This seems like the only place in town that is run/ cared for by adults. The ONLY bad thing I would say is that the people coming out of Zayo group office are always smoking. (which is against 29th street mall rules clearly posted) every time I sit at the tables by Starbucks I see some Zayo asshole smoke and stomp his way through the patio and even the playground like he owns the place. Once upon a time, Boulder had Crossroads Mall, my beloved adolescent hangout. This mall was mostly ordinary, but it was solid. It had Abo's Pizza, it had Aladdin's Castle, and it had OG May D & F. It also had a statue of a giant ferocious wooden Eagle. (Where'd that thing go? Maybe Donald Rumsfeld bought it??) But as Ponyboy learned... nothing gold can stay. Withered by neglect (and outshined by newer, shinier malls in Broomfield and Denver), Crossroads became a dilapidated ghost town, a pale reflection of its former glories. And then it closed. The developers and the City of Boulder haggled about the fate of Crossroads. Should it be rebuilt as a bigger, better mall? A mixed-use commercial/residential/park area? A 10-acre hippie playpen/gladiator arena? They argued and negotiated for years... YEARS! For half a decade, the fattest chunk of prime Boulder real state sat unused. After waiting literally since before the turn of the century and proverbially gouging my eyes out while the City acted like dummy-heads, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that old Crossroads would become an outdoor pedestrian mall. I became foolishly optimistic, eagerly awaiting a magical shopping experience where baby deer would swim through chocolate rivers, golems would dance the streets, and Crossroads would be reborn from the ashes of the wooden eagle. At the very least, this mall should have been aesthetically-wonderful and pedestrian-friendly. Instead, the years of planning and debate produced what is, in effect, a glorified strip mall and an ugly disappointment. Twenty Ninth Street: boring, banal, underwhelming. read more

This is a really bland mall. Yes, it is an improvement over the wasteland that was previously there, and I like the idea of an open air mall, but it just misses the mark. What is with the road that goes right down the middle? Everyone speeds down it, and it feels treacherous. The restaurants are mostly boring chains (Chipotle, Panera, Starbucks, zzzzzzzz) and then even the non-chains like Laudisio are completely devoid of personality. The only stores of remote interest for me are Apple, Sephora, and Anthropologie, but I can get my browsing done in about 20 minutes and then I'm ready to go home. Really, the only reason I come to the 29th Street Mall is for the movie theatre. Yay for stadium seating! And it is nice that there is so much parking. Hopefully in time some more interesting stores will come. Until then it is pretty much snoresville. read more

Twenty ninth street mall is built on the spot where the Crossroads mall once stood. Crossroads mall was built in 1963 with an addition built in the early 80s and was the traditional enclosed mall style. The Crossroads mall was torn down in 2004 and replaced with the open, airy Twenty ninth street mall that we now have today. The only store to survive the Crossroads demolition was the Macys. But I consider that store to be more of a stand alone location since it doesnt really fit to the open and airy feel of the new mall setting. One of the best things about the Twenty ninth street mall is its free and unencumbered free parking both on the street and in the parking garage. One can relax and browse all the eclectic stores this mall has to offer including the movie theater. This mall also offers many free events in the summer for one to participate in and enjoy. read more

I am so disappointed in this mall. I just don't understand how Macerich could have blown it like this with Twenty Ninth Street - particularly with an example right down the road of what works in this area - Flatiron Crossing. My first gripe is that you can drive a car through the mall - close the road, reroute the buses - there's plenty of parking without the handful of diagonal slots along 29th. Plant some large trees down the center for shade, and let cart vendors join the retail party. Put outdoor heaters out for winter. Encourage musicians to come and entertain shoppers. At least we'll finally have the means to walk from one end to the other without having to traverse to avoid stairs (I have a toddler in a stroller and a family member in a wheelchair, and this mall is a pain in the ass for both). Next, how about some family-friendly dining? Where do you go for a hot chocolate? How about a lemonade? Where do you go to sit under an awning and have a sandwich or a burger, and people watch? Where do you go after a movie to have a drink and chat? Don't say Laudisio, because as much as I love their food, it's not a bar and it's not geared for people who just want to hang out and have a drink, or a simple appetizer. I don't think Ruby's or the Railyard were a great fit, but at least they added some diversity to the mall. Why do all the restaurants have to be on the ends of the mall, and half are facing AWAY from the mall? Who thought that made sense? I visit the mall now only when I need to go to the Apple Store, and I might wander in to Sephora while I'm there. Other than that, the shopping holds zero allure. If there were local stores there, maybe a consignment shop or a toy store or a kitchen store or a convenience store - I take my kid there in the summers and can't even get him an ice cream after he's done playing on the ridiculously small and hot "playground". In the winter, we have to avoid the place altogether, it's just too cold for my kid, and there's no place to just duck into to hang out and warm up. We've tried to patronize the farmer's market when it makes an appearance at Twenty Ninth Street, in the hopes that it will encourage the management to finally close that road and make it a walking mall. But the weekend events aren't consistent - some weeks they're there, others not. One merchant told me that the farmer's market wouldn't be there any longer, so we stopped going - only to see it taking place in the parking lot a week later. Now, to avoid the heat in the summer and have a place for our boy to place when it's too cold, we head out to Flatirons. read more

The mall itself lacks the Boulder flavor that I love. The homogeneous architecture and national chain stores are not unpleasant, but fit more in Broomfield. Additionally, the stores really seem to be targeted at the rich stay-at-home moms. College students (aside from the trust fund babies) can't afford to shop there regularly. With that being said, I really like the public restrooms there. They are probably the nicest public restrooms I've ever seen. The movie theater there is also very nice, although I really miss the two old theaters, especially the one with real butter for the popcorn. The restaurants are nice, but I have heard that their nightlife is a little club-skanky. read more

All these reviews inspired me to put in my 2 cents worth. Not so sure I have given the 29th St. Mall a chance. Yes, I have been to many of the stores, and to some sort of outdoor grand opening event with lots of booths just after the mall opened for business. Here's what I do lately, when I simply must purchase something at a business located in the 29th St. Mall, I park as close as possible, and hurry in and out. Which is exactly what I did at the Crossroads Mall. But at least the Crossroads Mall had a decent selection of stores. This place is indeed mostly a bunch of national mostly-upscale chain stores. If that kind of shopping holds substance for you, enjoy it. I'll stick with the Apple Store. I can get free tech support there and cool stuff for my iPod. P.S. I have enjoyed Laudisio's (a local restaurant that re-located to this mall) over the years, but liked it better when it was in Willow Springs. read more

It's not that I don't come here when I need to marvel at the madness that is Sephora's insane collection of eyeliners, or stop in at Francesca's to look at all their 10 pound earrings, or go to Ruby's for a burger (may that place and its crappy milkshakes rest in peace). I have actually purchased shoes from Clark's, laughed at how Anthropologie thinks a schoolgirl dress should cost $170, and gotten my Mac fixed at the Apple Store. So it's not that 29th Street is useless. It's not. It's just... incredibly boring. No one in their right mind would want to actually hang out there. There's no spectacular food, just chains like Panera and Starbucks and - is Daphne's a chain? I sincerely hope not, because it is awful and should not exist in more places than necessary - and Jamba Juice. There are hardly any local businesses that bring any sort of Boulder flavor to the mall. So if it's usefulness you're looking for, why not just suck it up and go all the way to Flatirons Crossing? It's way MORE useful. And if it's local flavor you're looking for, what's the matter with Pearl Street Mall? I just don't understand this mall's place in the world (or Boulder). All of these stores could be scattered around Boulder to the same effect - it's not like they have anything to do with each other. So my overwhelming reaction to 29th street is bored by it and confused as to its purpose. Is that the feeling you want to get from a mall? read more

When Boulder's ancient Crossroads Mall closed, we as a society had decided that "shopping malls" were no longer acceptable to the young and upwardly mobile. They weren't urban enough, certainly were too commercial, and just felt generic. That's why Crossroads Mall was replaced with Twenty Ninth Street -- a mall that pretends to be a street. Don't be fooled -- Twenty Ninth Street is still a mall, except it's less convenient and the chain stores are more expensive. But worry not: having to dodge slow moving cars lets you make-believe that you in an urban shopping district, like New York's Madison Avenue or Chicago's Magnificent Mile, in cartoon form, with convenient parking, and elevator music pumped out on to the quasi-street. read more

29th street is an outdoor mall, plain and simple. However they keep it clean, they have nice music events during the summer, always have parking, and the HOP bus stops right in the middle of it. So you can get from downtown to the 29th street mall in about 10 minutes. Super convenient. It's home to a lot of the stores I visit (VS, anthro, apple) and is a great central place to meet for a movie and a quick bite (mod market, noodles, lausidio, cpk). It's actually really fast to run errands here, but also pleasant stroll about if you're bored. I think it does what it's been designed to do VERY well. read more

These outdoor malls I think are West Coast imports, so when I first looked around 29th St. Mall it looked like a lowscale version of the Stanford Shopping Center. For me it is a little bothersome that all the chains are national chains. But it's easy to navigate, there are some restaurants, etc. Probably East Pearl St. and some of the cool places (read, Indian Food store on 28th) are more my type of thing. Twenty Ninth Street has some good stores: MAC Cosmetics, Apple, Victoria's Secret, Macy's, Borders, a few decent restaurants, the movie theatre...but the parking situation SUCKS (typical of Boulder). Expect to circle around a few times before finding a spot, unless you're feeling daring and want to park underground...I always get turned around down there. It's convenient to ride the bus instead; even finding an open spot on the bike racks can be a chore. Sometimes there are events on Twenty Ninth Street during the summer, causing parking to be even more of a nightmare. Finding the restrooms is also a chore...it's best to go in Macy's or Borders if you really gotta go. read more

I think 'meh' about sums it up. When 29th Street was being built I feel like a lot of people were excited to have another outdoor walking mall. Now that it's become a fixture in Boulder, I think many of us are tired of it. There are some good stores (Apple, Sephora, Lulu Lemon, IMHO) others feel unnecessary. Does it really make sense to have two make-up stores right next to one another? A teeny sock store that doesn't even have striped socks in the local college colors? Blerg. Going to 29th Street has become such a pain in the ass - almost as bad as going to Flatirons. If I'm going to do some serious shopping, I'd rather be indoors with way more options and parking. read more

Not looking to battle the crowded malls? In my opinion, Twenty Ninth Street Mall is a great addition to Boulder. It is the up and coming place to be with retailers that are only found in Denver (if in Colorado at all!). A burst pipe has lead the are in front of mad greens to smell like shit. They claim it was just water and anti-freeze, but it smells like shit and stained their tables brown. With our latest bout of cold weather shit smelling slush has fallen from the ceiling of the covered walkway, and most recently I saw a shit smelling icicle that had formed. It's brown, it smells like shit, and myself and others working on the mall believe we're being lied to. This is gross, and the mall lied to my GM when they claimed the window washers had come and cleaned our windows (which our GM and OPs manager cleaned themselves.) The later window washing was not complete and left spots on the upper sections of our windows. read more

Twenty Ninth is a nice place to be! I'm not a big fan of a lot of the stores there (they are mostly chains), but I'm glad we have a Sephora (so I can buy my beloved Bare Escentuals products) and Muttropolis (which is such a great place!) In my opinion, the best thing about 29th is that they allow dogs! Even all the stores (minus restaurants, of course, but most have outdoor areas you can sit) at 29th allow dogs inside, so it's easy to shop with your favorite pup! The Pearl Street Pedestrian Mall does NOT allow dogs, which really sucks! I'm also really glad we finally have a nice theatre and some new restaurants in Boulder. All in all, I'm definitely a fan. I wish there were more interesting stores there, but then I'd only spend more money... so maybe it's better this way? Ha. read more

During the summer, they have free outdoor concerts on Friday nights. The small concert is set up in the plaza area between Borders and Laudisio's restaurant. If you don't like the music playing on a particular night, you can go shopping (like we did)! Nice shops. Some are on the high end and others are the standard, but nice, stores you typically see at other malls. read more

We have gone to the winter skate at the 29th street mall and we all love it! The equipment is new. The rink is large and the indoor area for snacks is roomy and warm. The whole experience is much nicer than boulder one, Louisville or flatirons winter skate. read more

I come here all the time, mostly to see friends. 29th Street Mall is more of a get together place than a shopping place. While, I have to admit they do have some good shopping, it is pretty expensive and geared less towards young adults. The mall is filled primarily with high end athletic shops, but there are some good clothing stores here like Anthropology, Sephora, and the newly added Nordstroms Rack. This outdoor mall has a movie theatre, wide selection of food options, and easy access to the bus which can take you to Pearl Street or the Hill. It's not bad, i'ts the closest shopping center for most people in Boulder and therefore gets a lot more attention than it probably deserves. I like the environment, I have fun when I go here, and really it's not a bad little place to be. read more

I love the stores here, Apple, Garbonzos, Chipotle, Century Theatre etc, the real issue with this place is the parking and or lot, some people have trouble paying attention to traffic signs, pedestrians and other cars. The spot in front of CPK is the worst spot, A 4-way stop is needed there for sure. read more

This small is awesome with the backdrop of mountains. Very clean and seems to have everything you need in a mall.

The shopping is OK but not stellar, the parking is OK but not stellar, and the convenience is fabulous (if you live in Boulder). Fortunately, the following few stores make this worth the parking crazies: MAC, Sephora, Apple Store, Anthropology, Lulu Lemon and Peet's Coffee. read more

I'm laughing that people have such strong opinions about an outdoor mall. It's a mall, people! And as a mall it is fine. There are many options...Sephora, Nordstrom Rack, Apple, Lululemon, etc. And being outside, even on sunny winter days, is always nice. read more
