    Oxtail dinner , medium $14.50

Food is delicious. Price is good. Bigger portion than Riz n Sunrise. Slow service thou.

Jerk chicken is flavourful, but not hot - SO good!
    James K.

I'm baaaack! And it was awesome once again! Ignore Jr, this place is still great. I don't think they deliver, so he's probably got the wrong place, but I could be wrong. Like I've said before it's always the fried chicken and oxtail for me, but on my last visit I couldn't resist the jerk chicken, which looked and tasted fantastic. If you like things even more spicy than the Jamaican standard, they have the most amazing fresh, house-made Scotch bonnet pepper sauce, and I absolutely guarantee that stuff will make it hot enough. I douse it on heavy and then enjoy my meal with tears trickling down my cheeks. Love this place!

Medium Ox Tail with Rice and Peas and Cole Slaw

Highly recommended! The ambiance in this restaurant is quite basic and you're not able to dine in. Don't let that fool you because their food makes up and exceeds all expectations! I had an order of rice and peas with ox tail and cole slaw. The cole slaw was absolutely perfect. It was flavourful but not overwhelming and there was plenty of it! It complimented the rice perfectly! I was quite disappointed by the rice and peas however. It was quite bland and some of it were clumped together as if it's been kept in the fridge overnight. However, the gravy from the ox tail really enhanced it. It gave the rice flavour and taste and it tasted as good as new! This was some of the best ox tail I have ever tried! It was very tender as how it should be but the flavour exceeded all expectations. The quality of the ox tail was very rich and tasted very authentic. *highly recommended!* I had a taste of my friend's jerk chicken and it was juicy and rich in flavour! The service was great! However, I waited about 15 minutes for the food. There was only one person doing the final preparation and packaging of the food and that made the finalization process very slow. But they were very polite and loved to smile which made me feel great! The price for my medium meal was just above $10 and the small jerk chicken was $7 which is fair. Great place if you want some great authentic Caribbean cuisine!!

Jerk chicken with rice and peas and coleslaw

There are plenty of places to get Jamaican food in the area, but Twice as Nice is probably the best. Their chicken tastes the closest to oil drum cooked chicken that I have had from a restaurant. It's pretty hard to find someone in Toronto actually cooking the chicken in a drum, especially in winter, so this is my go to place for jerk. The extras like rice'n'peas, coleslaw, festival, and plantain are all good, too. There can be a lineup, and we all know how fast Caribbean service isn't, so you might have to wait a while. Because of the popularity of this place, it is not uncommon for them to start running out of some dishes by 7pm, so be forewarned. Me, I don't care about the line, the lack of ambience, the tight parking lot. When I want my jerk, roti, goat, fry chicken, oxtail, whatever, I will tough out the line and then happily stuff my face.

All of the oxtail shredded meat, the cheese, the slaw, and the patty all perfectly come together into a very hearty meal. For its price, it is very filling and extremely tasty. The other thing we had was the Large Jerk Chicken meal. The Jerk Chicken was how I personally would want it. Not too hot, not too salty, not burnt, and spiced just right. The rice & beans proportion to the protein was just a little more than what I would prefer, but it is not a big issue. There was also a piece of bread that we had along with the meal which I enjoyed having. It was tasy and soft bread that perfectly acts to refresh the palate so we can go for another bite out of the Jerk Chicken or the Oxtail patty. What was a little letdown was that the place was a little small and not really primarily setup to accommodate a lot of indoor dining. There was no washroom or at least a place to wash hands. Service was also just alright. It was not bad, but just not among the best service standards that I know. You would need to come in with a lot of patience in waiting to order and waiting for the food to be ready to serve. Between taking orders, the person over the counter would also be occasionally be on the phone answering call inquiries.

We had the jerk chicken with rice and peas, snapper with brown stew veggies and rice, stuffed oxtail patty...EVERYTHING WAS EXCELLENT! Jerk chicken was tender, full of flavor- great spices with the perfect balance of heat that was experienced throughout the bite, not just on the skin. The Snapper was cooked to order (30 minute wait). Tender, great flavor, not too many bones. Even the fish gravy was made to order as when I asked for more they had to make it. Deliciously worth the wait. The STUFFED OXTAIL PATTY was the star of the show. When they say stuffed, they mean it! This beauty is a creative love song in your mouth that your stomach will thank you for. It's buttery, soft, flaky, flavorful, fatty in the best oxtail kinda ways, and just....YES! You didn't know you needed this in your life but your welcome. This menu item can be a meal that stands on its own as I could only get through half of it as a side. Service was good. Just one young lady at the register holding down two long lines alone. One for the order and payment, and the other for pick up. She did well navigating high demand and customer satisfaction. Tip: Get extra gravy- we got extra oxtail, jerk, and fish and used it. Ambiance is mom & pop. You can eat there, or take it to go. Most people grabbed there's to go. Had we eaten ours there we probably would've ended up doubling our order and waistline. Well... in my Arnold Terminator voice, "I'll Be Back!"

I decided to drop by on Saturday, just after noon. It's in a fairly dumpy strip mall on Eglinton Avenue East, just west of Brimley Road, in Scarborough. There is plenty of parking. I parked fairly close to the entrance. A car was illegally parked in front of the business next to Aunt Elsie's. I don't get why folks need to do that when there are so many parking spots. Aunt Elsie's looks like a tiny convenience store from the outside, but looks are deceiving. It's also a small Jamaican grocery store that doubles as a takeout eatery. I was not expecting such an amazing place. I simply wanted patties! I found the Grace jerk chicken patties. They came in mild and hot flavours. I always go with mild when I'm not familiar with how spicy items can be. There are also Allan's and Michidean patties. You know that you are at a decent place. Although I felt like Ms Pac-Man as I moved around a small space with a bunch of folks while trying to physically distance, I looked at all the condiments and spices. This place uses space wisely. The wall of condiments and spices is impressive. I also looked longingly at the chilli peppers. They looked pretty and deadly! The hot foods counter blew me away. You can't help but gawk at all the yummy food options, from various fried fish, to jerk chicken and curry goat while you are in line to pay for your items. I took one look at the salt fish fritters and knew that I needed to try them. I got two. Note to self: Get the oxtail dinner next time. Get more hot items after that. I had a lovely, sweet woman behind the counter get my fritters and cash me out. I paid using my debit card. She also bagged my goodies. I thanked her and wished her a lovely day. The customers at this store are friendly. I loved the vibe. They were courteous and nice, which I'm not necessarily used to in my neck of the woods! I was still full from breakfast. However, I made room to consume a salt fish fritter in my car before I continued running errands. OMG! It was so flavourful. The fish was salted, but not to the point where you feel like you need to down a litre of your favourite beverage afterwards. It was seasoned perfectly. I think that there was garlic, onion, and red pepper, at least. So good! I have such a weakness for fritters and I'm glad that I caved here. I heated up a jerk chicken patty for breakfast (hey, why not?) this morning. It does have a spice kick that is more than what you'd typically expect from an item that is labelled mild. Highly yummy. The filling is flavourful and the dough part was perfect. Each patty is individually wrapped to preserve freshness. A box is $5.90. I love them! Aunt Elsie's was such a terrific find. If you want to order hot food in advance, this eatery is on Uber Eats. Otherwise, you can call ahead. (396)

Large portions and flavourful add ons. I love to add the chutney, scotty pickle and creamy sauces. Only downside is I would prefer if they used bone in chicken for the jerk items. I've also tried the chicken roti. The filling, sauce, chickpeas and potatoes are delish but the roti bread itself could be lighter and softer. A few times I've ordered the roti felt more like a thin pita instead of a roti. Parking at the Markham location can be difficult as it is off the main road (Hwy 7) which is busy at all hours of the day so there's no avoiding that and there are only so many spaces.

Each item seemed to complement each other and had you wanting to take one bite after the other. The chicken was very soft and flavorful, the rice had a nice texture and you could tell it was made in flavorful spices, and the veggies were nice and creamy. The tropical hot sauce was the icing on the cake, or in this case, the bowl. I wish I ordered a spicier sauce because the medium felt more like a step up from mild but not quite medium. My one complaint regarding this is that because they are served in pie trays with plastic covers, there's no real way of hearing this back up unless you have plates. So be aware of this if you're ordering this for delivery at a hotel and be sure to ask your hotel for plates. All in all a great experience and would eat it again if I come back to Toronto.

I found that this beef patty here at Allwyn's was flaky enough but lacked the crispness of the outside dough. As well the filling was too moist or soggy and it was translucent which was off putting.
