I was in town to assist our new Community Ambassador at her debut Yelp Elite Event, and wanted to get a feel for the city. The Inn at 500 was the perfect choice, as it's right downtown and in the heart of the action - not to mention, walking distance to some great little shops, coffee shops, and even Trader Joe's. I arrived via Uber and was immediately impressed by their bright, colorful lobby. This hotel is known for amazing light fixtures and lots of whimsical art - and they didn't disappoint. Everywhere I looked, there was something beautiful to see. I was warmly greeted at the front desk, including a complimentary beer (or wine) as I checked in! There are also unlimited snacks, bottled water, and a few other refreshments available during your entire stay. I may or may not have grabbed a bag of Frito's and a granola bar to take to my room for late night snacking. My room was fresh and clean, with an eclectic Shakespearean-style nook above the king bed. The entire space was lovely, including a nice work area and plenty of places to plug in and charge up. There was even a fireplace, although the weather was too warm to actually use it. Before heading out to our event at a local brewery, I even got to enjoy a terrific happy hour in their on-site restaurant, Hemlock. And in the morning, I ordered a delish room service breakfast before catching my flight back to Seattle. This was a great experience and I can't wait to go back during my next trip to Boise!

We got a double queen room on the ground floor, facing the pool and it was great! My kids were able to walk right out into the courtyard and play giant chess and giant checkers. We also spent as much time as possible at the indoor pool. My kids LOVED the whirlpool and splash pad features. There was hardly anyone else there so it felt like we had the whole pool to ourselves. The staff was so great with my kids. We got warm chocolate chip cookies at check in, and the servers at breakfast were great about getting us situated with drinks, and our made to order omelets were delicious! I have never experienced a hotel breakfast buffet that was as extensive as The Riverside's! 10+ stars for their breakfast buffet alone. At one point during our stay, we were walking back to our room and noticed some broken glass at the bottom of a staircase. I called the front desk and immediately they had someone out there cleaning up the glass. I would highly recommend The Riverside to anyone looking for a staycation hotel, or if you have guests coming in from out of town. We will definitely be back!

The sultans palace featured to statue elephants in the room, a very large Jacuzzi tub for two, a waterfall shower, a TV with lots of movies to choose from, and a small picnic table for food, card games, and just hanging out. I was most excited about the Jacuzzi tub for two. It definitely heat it up quick, but it was very relaxing to feel the jets against the body after a long work week. The bed was surprisingly comfortable. I always bring my own pillows when traveling via car, but the bed was super comfortable, and I was able to fall asleep with ease. The room was very clean, spacious, and inviting. Complementary breakfast was nice. They actually had some gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options. Was pleasantly surprised. Overall, one of the better themed hotel stays I've ever experienced. We'll definitely come back again.

This was…read moresupposed to be a special remembrance stay for us because we also stayed here on our wedding night 8 years ago. My husband booked our room over a month in advance, and we reserved the Hollywood Suite, which was the room we had always wanted to stay in. A week before our stay, they called my husband and told him that room was no longer available, even though it had already been reserved for weeks. He requested another Diamond Suite, and they told him not to worry because the Marble Suite was available. We checked in at 4:00 PM. The room was much smaller than expected, and the wine my husband paid for and specifically requested was not in the room. The spa essentials were there, so we decided not to make a fuss at first. After dinner, we returned around 9:30 PM and tried to use the spa bathtub, which is one of the main reasons people stay at this hotel. The water was extremely hot, and when my husband tried to turn it down, the water would not shut off at all. The water became so dangerously hot that we quickly jumped out to avoid getting burned or injured because we had no way to stop it. We had to get out, get dressed, and call the front desk. Joann came to our room, and instead of trying to problem-solve or reassure us, she immediately said there were no rooms available and asked whether we planned to stay or leave. Rather than helping us find a solution, she seemed more focused on getting an answer from us than resolving the issue itself. From the moment she arrived, we felt like she was more than happy to see us leave instead of trying to save our anniversary experience or help make things right. We asked if the issue could be fixed first. Maintenance came, and after we waited in our car for about half an hour, the tub was still not properly fixed. The maintenance employee, Donny, was shocked that no one had tried to move us and confidently told us that we would absolutely receive a full refund because of the situation. He seemed certain that this was the obvious outcome. Later, when my husband spoke with Joann and referenced what Donny had said, she immediately shut it down and said he could not make those statements and should not have said that. It was incredibly frustrating to receive completely conflicting information from staff while already dealing with a ruined anniversary evening. We were then told the faucet had been stripped and that pliers could be left for us if we wanted to try using the tub ourselves. We did not feel comfortable with that at all. The whole reason we stayed there was for the themed room and spa tub experience, and that experience was completely ruined. We ended up checking out before midnight and driving 45 minutes home to Mountain Home. What made this even more frustrating was how everything was handled afterward. We were not offered any refund, partial refund, credit, or even another stay at a later date. Nothing. We were simply told that "a manager would contact us." There was no attempt to make things right, no empathy, and no effort to save our anniversary experience. The property itself also feels very neglected. The hallway carpets looked filthy and stained and honestly did not appear to have changed much since we stayed there 8 years ago. For $300-$400 a night, this is unacceptable. The staff overall seemed undertrained, overwhelmed, and not equipped to handle guest issues with even basic hospitality. This place could be amazing if the owners invested more into maintenance, staffing, and customer service. Unfortunately, our anniversary night was ruined, and my husband and I have decided we will never stay there again. For anyone considering spending this much money on a room here, think carefully. You are paying for an experience, and sadly this was nowhere close to one worth paying for.

(The reservation itself was only made HOURS prior to the cancellation) We were told that since it was within 24 hours of check-in, we would be unable to be refunded, however the reservation ITSELF was made within 24 hours. When I was transferred to the manager, she demanded that I respect her and I needed to divulge private medical information before we were finally given a refund. I am not innocent in this, I will admit, but I do NOT regret acting the way I did. This was a single snippet of a shift for you, for me? It was the absolute worst day of my life. I went from having a completely normal happy two year old that was being babysat by my mother while my husband and I moved across the country, to listening to him struggling to even get a breath in and somehow having a congenital heart defect whilst we're now rushing as fast as we can to Seattle to fly BACK to the east coast and pray that my son stays alive within that timeframe. Of course a mother is going to be hysterical when there is a situation like that. AND, my husband, who booked the room, specified we needed to cancel due to a MEDICAL EMERGENCY. That was the very first sentence he said on that phone call. My recommendation- have more compassion and verify the severity of the situation with your receptionist before demanding respect from someone who trusted your business enough to spend over $300 on a room that we would be spending less than 12 hours in.

The "amazing" water filter (did you know they have filtered water? Here, have some. Want some more? It's filtered!) clanked all night long and loud sounds came from the bedroom wall all night. All. Damn. Night. There is no way they were unaware of this and nobody should be given a room that offers absolutely no chance of sleep. Customer service ignores you if you prefer to communicate via email. But they have filtered water! There are many better and less expensive options. They might not have a Water Man (it's filtered!) but at least you'll get some sleep.
