While it was pricey, I feel it was well worth it to pay for the level of experience and technique which has made a real difference for me. Together, we made a hair plan for me while I grow my short hair out. I especially appreciated that Mel really took the time to teach me some styles that I could try during my short hair stage. I made an appointment here because a friend recommended it. They don't answer the phone. Ever. Which was terribly annoying in trying to make my first appointment. I left a message and sent an email to make an appointment and it took 3 business days and a 2nd email from me to finally set something. They asked me for my top 3 choices of times for appointments and I got my 3rd choice. When I received the confirmation (via both text and email) for my appointment, my name was spelled wrong as were the services I wanted. I had been corresponding with Olivia to make the appointment so I checked back to make sure I had time for a consultation before we did anything. This place was terribly difficult to find the first time, as I'm new to San Antonio, so allow extra time for traffic from whatever direction you are coming and allow time to figure out where the salon is in this complex of renovated lofts. Blue Star is an Arts District so you have to poke around to find the place and it wasn't easy to find. There is a small sign at the top of some stairs in a back alley near the Blue Star District Office. Once I found the place, it was a solid door and the knob was stuck so I was thinking no one was there but I turned harder to the left and it opened. Immediately, I walked into an eclectic funky salon with lots of artists at work. Music was ok and not too loud. I was immediately greeted and offered a drink. (Choice of water, coffee, cokes and wine) This was my first time here and I had a color appointment with Jade. She was running late. My appointment was at 2pm and I arrived at 1:55. I was led back to her chair and Jade came over to greet me and reiterate she was running late. It was about 2:40 by the time we began the consultation. I was extremely frustrated by my hair cut and color from the last place I went and needed time to discuss what I did and didn't want. I appreciated Jade's patience and willingness to talk through things with me but bw the scheduling and navigational difficulties, I honestly felt emotionally done before we began. Since I'm new to town and already had a bad experience at another recommended salon, I took a deep breath and trusted the process. I was pleased with the color and will go back soon for a trim, or what they call a "tweak." Their pricing system is funky and too complicated in my opinion. There are 3 tiers of pricing and then 3 tiers within those tiers. I think they could "tweak" it to be more user friendly because it needs explanation. I like Jade a lot and she handled my stress well. The headache in scheduling and not feeling very important and difficulty getting here was all irritating and overwhelming. But I like Jade and think she knows how to deal with me and my hair so I'll go back. read more

I am obsessed with Twirl. It's been a while since I have been legit happy with a hair salon since I've moved away from Orlando. Soooo one thing about Twirl--- you have to book at least a month or so in advance (but trust me IT'S WORTH IT). They're really good about getting back to you via e-mail, phone, or text so don't freak out if you call them and they don't pick up. Simply submit a request through their website or leave a voicemail! It is a bit tricky to find if you don't know the area very well. I had passed the salon a few times before the security guard told me that I looked lost. You have to go up the stairs in order to get to the salon! The interior is so trendy yet chill and refreshing. Just walking in made me feel pampered already ;) Now, about my stylist--- Jacky is a hair goddess!!!!!!!!! She did an amazing job with my balayage ombre. I told her that my previous stylist botched my hair color and told her that I really needed to get it fixed. Since I was coming from Victoria (2 hours away from San Antonio), Jacky was willing to squeeze the consultation appointment and color appointment all in one. She was very attentive to my needs and helped guide me through my color consultation. I was so at ease throughout the entire appointment. She is super sweet, creative, honest, and talented! She even followed up with me after my appointment to make sure that I was happy with my hair (ummm- how awesome is that?!). I have to say-- the ladies at Twirl are exceptional!! As usual, I left Twirl loving my hair! I have been contemplating growing out my gray and Lisa has been amazing to work with. At my last visit, she pulled some of my natural darker color through.
